As we begin 2014, we wanted to make you aware of some new beginnings for 2 Sign Up for Trips 2 Birthdays & Birthday Lunch the 50+ program. As many of you know, Dana Stewart was recently recognized by Special Olympics Alabama as Outstanding Coach of the Year for her work with children and adults with 2 Book Club intellectual disabilities. Over the past several years, Dana has grown our therapeutics (TR) 3 4 Crossword & Workshops program to the point it is well-known and recognized throughout the state for its quality program offerings. With the success of the current program comes the demand for increased Calendar programming. For that reason, effective immediately, Dana’s position will begin focusing on TR programming and events. Don’t worry! You will still see Dana at some of our community events and she will keep you hopping at ZumbaGold® every Wednesday and Thursday morning. We Special Insert are so grateful for the time and talent Dana has given to our 50+ program, and we know she will continue to do amazing things with our therapeutic community. Next time you see her, give her New Classes & Programs a high five and thank her for all she has and is doing for our community! When: Friday, March 21 • 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Join us for an informational meeting as we kick off our new book club on Monday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Harris Center. Susan Housel will help us kick start this new program, announce the initial book for reading, set a date for the future book selection meetings, and pick facilitators to help lead each month. Book Club will meet on the 2nd Monday of each month for an hour at 10 a.m. Bring your book suggestions and group ideas and help us get this venture off to a great start! This course will walk you through everything you need to know about couponing in grocery stores and drugstores. The course includes time for questions and answers at the end. Participants will receive a detailed workbook and access to online materials after the workshop. Visit southernsavers.com and click on the workshop tab for more information. Take a refresher course on the rules of the road and learn defensive driving techniques through the AAA Safe Driving for Mature Adults course. Join us Thursday, Jan. 30 from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Harris Center. Registration is $25 for AAA members and $30 for non-members. Registration includes a light lunch.
