On April 25, 2016, Mr. Mike Maloney of Distributor Corp. of New England (D.C.N.E) came to Bay State and made a presentation to Bay State’s Commercial HVACR class on the latest tools available for an HVACR Technician’s toolbox. Accompanied by Matt Theriault, of D.C.N.E.’s Plymouth location, and their fully equipped mobile showroom van, they demonstrated a number of new tools and diagnostic equipment. Continued on page 3 Page Two G R A D U A T E P R O F I L E: Introducing Alex Frisbie, Graduate of Bay State School of Technology’s Electronics Technician Day Program Alex grew up in Marshfield, MA, and has lived there most of his life except for a handful of years spent on the central coast of California. Alex graduated from Marshfield High School in 2006. After graduation, Alex worked as an automotive technician. He then joined the U.S. Air Force as a Security Forces/Alarm Monitor responsible for monitoring security alarms that protected Multi-Billion-Dollar Air Force resources, monitor Closed Circuit TV systems, security, gate guard, and police work -management of 40+ security officers. After finishing his stint in the Air force, Alex’s decision to go back to school was based on his need for a career change. Alex searched for technical based electronics courses near him and that is how he found Bay State School of Technology. The two reasons he chose BSST were the “Hands-On” nature of our Electronics Technician course, and the fact that Bay State was approved for Veterans Training by the Veteran’s Administration. The compact, reasonably short nature of the curriculum was also appealing because it would allow him to quickly get started in his new career. BAY STATE SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY The part of Bay State that he enjoyed the most was the instructors’ ability to teach complex theories in a way he could understand. That training has set him up with an exciting new career with seemingly unlimited potential. “The instructors were great in every aspect. They made learning in a fast-paced environment easy even while taking notes on literally EVERYTHING, not to mention all the digital media they provided. Their knowledge in all areas of the industry was invaluable.” The tips and tricks he learned at school have already put him in great shape to quickly excel at his job. Alex also likes the fact that the instructors are available for consultation long after graduation. Alex and his classmates were challenged by Instructor Ray Cross and Director of Education John Iemma, to repair a Dynascan machine and get it back to working order. A Dynascan is a cylindrical 360-degree video display used in airports and theater to advertise products, and provide information. After much hard work, the soon-to-be Technicians got the Dynascan programmed and working again. Alex works for Sunrise Systems Inc., which manufactures LED signs and displays. He is responsible for the technical support and complete repair of all their hardware. Alex is currently in the process of learning printed circuit board design as well as programming. Alex and his wife Brooke currently reside in Marshfield, MA. They are hoping to buy a home within the next year with an eye toward expanding their family. Alex and his wife are thankful for the new opportunities provided by Bay State School of Technology. We wish Alex continued success in his new career. ■ Bay State Update is a quarterly publication of Bay State School of Technology intended to inform its readers about current happenings both at the School and in the field.
