President’s Desk . . .
Dear Sacred Heart Academy Family:
This year marked Sacred Heart Academy’s 62nd year! Over these many years we
have been blessed to watch more than 10,000 young girls enter our doors only to
leave four years later as true “Women of Heart.” Our focus at Sacred Heart will
always be to educate young women leaders infused with the mission of the Sisters
of St. Joseph; unity, reconciliation, and inclusive love.

The 2010 – 2011 Annual Report celebrates all these young women, and you our
generous family of donors, for the continued contribution of time, talent and
treasure. It is important to note that during these difficult financial times, when
so many worthwhile organizations are vying for support, 19% more dedicated
alumnae contributed to their SHA family, thereby ensuring our financial health
into the future.
Each year I am in awe of the numerous events and activities that take place at our
school. From the Fall Cocktail Party that kicks off the school year in September to
Graduation in June there is not a week that goes by without something happening
here at SHA. The Alumnae Association, Mother’s Guild, Fathers Club, current
students, alumnae, past parents, faculty, and staff all work to ensure that things are
constantly happening.
Our successes are numerous and evident . . .
The annual SHA-lloween raised $2,600 for the missions, we participated in
our first Science Olympiad, Godspell was performed to commemorate the 10th
Anniversary of September 11, the Lady Spartans soccer and swim teams were
honored as All Long Island Teams, SHA had the only LI female student accepted
to Brown University, 78% of our graduates were National Honor Society members,
and so much more.
More than 73 families benefited from your generosity, as we were able to provide
over $180,000 in scholarships and financial aid. Our annual fund raised more than
$500,000 with the support of our event honorees, chairs, committee members,
and all of our generous donors who contributed to this amazing success. Please
make sure to take a look at Sacred Heart Academy’s overall financial summary and

position and bright future.
As we end another year here at SHA, I am reminded of the Nelson Mandela quote,
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
With all 213 graduating seniors going on to college, the SHA class of 2011 will
certainly make a difference and change the world!

Dear Friends of Sacred Heart,
I am pleased to present the financial results for Sacred Heart Academy for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011,
as reported on a cash basis. The accompanying charts display operating revenues and expenses, exclusive of
fundraising activities and plant expansion investments. Once again, the school completed the year with a balanced
budget and an addition to its reserves. We also purchased properties to commence the expansion of our campus,
and added to the size of our long-term investment fund.
From an operations standpoint, revenues continued to surpass expenses. Tuition and fee revenues, which make up
the largest component (86%) of operating income, grew by 8% including the positive effects of last year’s increased
enrollment. On the expense side, salaries and fringe benefits, which compose 70% of the total expenses, rose by 7%,
reflecting the school’s continued efforts to support its faculty with a competitive compensation package. 5% of the
budget was spent on maintaining and upgrading current facilities, while another 7% of operating revenues, nearly
$650,000, was set aside for facilities expansion and contingencies.
Other resources, specifically plant and investment funds, are as essential as a balanced budget to SHA’s long-term
success. During fiscal 2011, we embarked on the first steps of our campus development plan, by purchasing two
residential properties adjacent to the school, and contracting for the purchase of two more. Our campus dreams
-- a “home field” for outdoor sports, and new academic spaces -- can be fulfilled with the support of our parents,
donors, alumnae and students. The Corde Fund (formerly referred to as the endowment fund) also continued to
grow with the school. During the year ended June 30, 2011, the Corde Fund value rose by more than $1 million, to
$4.3 million, due to new contributions from the school and positive investment returns. Under guidance from the
Board of Trustees and the Finance and Investment Committees, the Fund will provide a source of income and keep
its promise to support the school’s mission in years to come.
The School Administration and its Finance Department assist the Board of Trustees in their management of the
school’s resources. Together, our efforts support Sacred Heart’s mission by providing clear financial data, developing
sustainable financial plans, and monitoring results. Our strong financial position will ensure that the school thrives
for the benefit of current and future students, and faculty.

Opportunities to Support Sacred Heart Academy
Cash Contributions
The donation of cash can be either unrestricted
or designated to support a specific program
or scholarship. Payment schedules can be
individually designed.
Memorials
Honor the memory of a loved one by supporting
educational programs for the young women of
Sacred Heart Academy. A letter acknowledging
the donation will be sent to the family.
Tributary Gifts
A donation can be made to commemorate
special occasions. The person being honored
will receive a letter informing them of your gift.
Sacred Heart Academy Tree of Life
The “Tree of Life”, located in Sacred Heart
Academy, commemorates those who have
passed away. A gift of $250 for a gold leaf is an
opportunity to remember an individual who has
made a difference in your life.
Securities and Trusts
Gifts of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or
securities can prove to be the most beneficial
way to lend your support. Donations through
a trust can provide an opportunity to acquire
major tax benefits and receive a return from
the assets. Usually funded through appreciated
securities or property, trusts can ensure a steady,
sheltered annual income.
Real Estate
Charitable gifts of houses, condominiums,
commercial property, and other types of real
estate can be extremely advantageous for tax
purposes.
Life Insurance
Consider donating a Life Insurance Policy. It
is possible to name sacred Heart Academy as
owner or the beneficiary of the policy.
Wills and Bequests
You can make a difference in the education of
young women of Sacred Heart Academy with a
charitable bequest specified in your will. If you
