By O. P. Paliwal, India SA Typing Volunteer: Mummadi Sridhar Associate Editor: Yenbeeyes T Shri O. P. Paliwal is an elderly experienced astrologer from Chandigarh. He retired from I.E.S services and leads a peaceful life contemplating on astrology. He wrote path breaking articles in Late R Santhanams magazine, Astrological Magazine of Raman Saheb and his articles in hindi in Hardeo Sharma ji’s Vishwa Vijay Panchang were most appreciated. It took the help of mentor to trace him down and bring Mr. Paliwal out of his astrological retirement. SA volunteers teamed together to translate and also type out Mr. Paliwal article and have held the tradition of not letting knowledge escape into oblivion. here are many tools of analysis described in ancient astrological literature. One such tool is Dasa System. Out of 42 Dasa Systems mentioned by Parasara, Vimshottari Dasa is mostly used. This Dasa System supplemented with the transit of Jupiter and Saturn in the natal Sarvastakavarga is used for timing any event in human life. Service is considered from the Artha Trikona (the 2nd, the 6th and the 10th houses) of Birth Ascendant and the Moon Sign. Of these, the 10th house is most important as it refers to occupation, profession, means of livelihood and dignity. Service and allied events may fructify in the Dasa of following planets: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) Lords of the Artha Trikona; Planets posited in the Artha Trikona; Planets aspecting the Artha Trikona; Planets aspecting or associating with the lords of Artha Trikona; and Planets forming special yogas These planets may influence the above planets either as lords of major period (Maha Dasa) or lords of sub – periods / sub – sub periods, etc. The sub – period of planets capable of influencing the 10th house indicate excellent results pertaining to the 10th house provided both are in harmonious position in relation to each other. Planets Forming Special Yogas: The four houses, viz., 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th counted from the Ascendant are termed as kendras (Quadrants) and the two house, viz., 5th and 9th as Trikonas (Trines). The lords of these six houses are termed as Karakas as per dictum. के न्द्रे कोणे कारका भावनाथा भाव प्रीप ृं and give good results in their Dasa period. If a planet simultaneously owns a Kendra and a Kona he becomes Yogakaraka for that ascendant and indicates excellent results in his Dasa (Period). Three planets i.e. Mars, Venus and Saturn become Yogakaraka. Mars is yogakaraka for Cancer and Leo ascendants; Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants; and Saturn for Taurus and Libra ascendants. Rahu and Ketu as Yogakaraka: Each of them becomes yogakaraka if (i) posited in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, & 10th house) and combined with or aspected by a Trinal Lord (Lord of 5th or 9th house); or (ii) posited in a Trikona (5th or 9th house) and combined with or aspected by a Kendra Lord. Special Yogas: These yogas are generated when the lord of a Kendra is related to the lord of a Trikona in any one of the following four ways: (1) In each other’s house; or they exchange their houses; (2) (3) (4) They associate in a house; or Mutual aspect (i.e. both aspect each other); and One side aspect. This is possible in the case of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn who have special aspects. Mars aspects 4th and 8th sign; Jupiter, 5th and 9th sign; and Saturn, 3rd and 10th sign. Special yogas are to be identified in natal horoscope. Some of these yogas become ineffective if the Karaka planets are blemished on account of their lordship of bad houses. It is the Dasa period of planets forming effective yogas which indicate service and rise in career. These effective yogas are given in the following table: Special Yogas For Various Ascendants S.No. 1) Ascendant Aries 2) Taurus 3) 4) Gemini Cancer 5) Leo 6) Virgo 7) Libra 8) Scorpio Planets forming Special Yoga (i) Sun + Mars (ii) Sun + Moon (iii) Sun + Saturn (iv) Sun + Venus (v) Mars + Jupiter (vi) Moon + Jupiter (i) Saturn + Mercury (ii) Sun + Saturn (iii) Mars + Saturn (iv) Venus + Saturn (v) Sun + Mercury Mercury + Venus (i) Moon + Mars (ii) Mars + Saturn (iii) Moon + Jupiter (iv) Mars + Venus (v) Mars + Jupiter (i) Sun + Mars (ii) Sun + Jupiter (iii) Mars + Jupiter (iv) Mars + Venus (i) Mercury + Venus (ii) Mercury + Saturn (i) Venus + Saturn (ii) Mercury + Saturn (iii) Moon + Saturn (iv) Moon + Mercury (v) Mercury + Venus (vi) Mars + Saturn (i) Sun + Moon 9) Sagittarius 10) Capricorn 11) Aquarius 12) Pisces (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (i) (ii) (iii) (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) (vii) (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (i) (ii) (iii) Moon + Mars Moon + Saturn Moon + Venus Sun + Jupiter Sun + Mercury Mars + Jupiter Sun + Jupiter Venus + Saturn Mercury + Venus Mars + Venus Mercury + Saturn Moon + Mercury Moon + Venus Mars + Mercury Mercury + Saturn Venus + Saturn Mercury + Venus Mars + Venus Sun + Venus Moon + Jupiter Mars + Jupiter Moon + Mercury Transit Effects: The Dasa effects are supplemented with the effects of transiting planets. The transits of Jupiter and Saturn are of primary importance. Their transit in a house having more than 25 benefic dots in the Sarvastaka Varga indicates good results. The timing of the event can be further narrowed down by using the 8 Kakshya division and Parasarashtakavarga. Now, take an example:- Example – 1 Date of Birth Place of Birth Time of Birth Country Time Zone - 13.01.1928 29˚- 09’ N ; 77˚- 45’ E 7:12 A.M India 82˚- 30’ E Ayanamsa Ascendant Jup (29) (28) Mer (30) Asc Sun Mars (26) Chitrapaksha (22˚.50’.50”)1 Sagittarius (26˚.56’.15”) - (19) Rahu (26) Planetary Degrees (27) Eg. – 1 (30) D.O.B 13.01.1928 (23) Venus Sat Ketu (24) (37) Moon (38) N.B. Hence slight difference in Longitudes of planets is seen. – Associate Editor, SA in the 6th and the Moon in the 10th. Mercury is aspected by Saturn, Jupiter aspects the Moon, Venus and Saturn. Three special yogas are formed by Mars & Jupiter, Sun & Jupiter and Mercury & Saturn. Rahu situated in the 6th is aspected by its sign dispositor Venus. From the Moon sign, Rahu is situated in a Trikona and aspected by its sign dispositor. So Rahu becomes Yogakaraka and indicates excellent results. Rahu is in 9th from the 10th house and indicates good results. The native completed his education in the sub – period of Saturn of Rahu major period. In the sub – period of Mercury in Rahu major period he got employment and ultimately joined the Central Government in February, 1955. At that time Jupiter was transiting in Gemini with 27 benefic dots and Saturn in Libra with 37 benefic dots in the Sarvastaka Varga. Both these houses have more than optimum points. Promotion: This is mainly judged from the 11th house. The 11th house of natal horoscope falls in Libra and its lord is Venus. The 11th house from the 10th (Profession or Services?) falls in Cancer and its lord is the Moon. Thus, Venus and the Moon are primary determinants. Lords of Dharma Trikona (1st, 5th and 9th) are secondary determinants. The lord of the first is Jupiter, fifth lord is Mars, and the ninth lord is the Sun. These three, viz., Jupiter, Mars, and the Sun also indicate promotion. The native was promoted in Venus sub – period of Rahu Dasa in September, 1958.
