Regarding the technical equipment the carpet manufacturer from
Dear Readers.
Oelsnitz was always one of the leading companies in the carpet
industry. With the start up of the new digital printing machine,
After a long and intensive period of
preparation the time has come: the new
ChromoJET printing system is installed, run
in, and it’s already producing.
Besides all challenges of the recent years,
one aspect was clearly important to us,
Halbmond had to be technically in the
forefront. With our new printing system,
currently the most modern and most
efficient worldwide, we definitely acted on
this maxim.
Of course, the acquisition and the start up
of a machine, no matter how efficient and
modern, is not everything. Complex
technology has to be mastered. And this
entails employee motivation and commitment, experience and qualification. These
are the virtual strengths of the company and
developments.
At this point, I would like to point out due to
recent events: The major investment had
been decided and arranged way before the
present world financial crisis. This was a
strategic milestone in the continued
development of our company, Halbmond
Teppichwerke GmbH. When the machine
was ordered, the international finance crisis
and the massive changes and adaptations
which were to come in the worldwide carpet
industry were not a question. But even if we
would have known it, we wouldn’t have
changed any detail of our strategy and
investment.
Halbmond plans for the long term and the
company continues its way – with dynamic
and decisiveness, with consideration and
faith in the future. And our customers can
confidently trust us in this – more than ever!
which also produces the orders of the HTW Design Carpet subsidiary company, the company has made a great leap forward:
since August 2008, Halbmond offers the most modern printing
plant of the world – overtaking their competitors with a unique
variety for colour permutations that are unprecedented.
Halbmond simply
“ impresses”
The new design freedom, combined with the
most modern ChromoJET printing system of the
world, can result in sharper image focus, more
colourful and more brilliant carpet patterns with
immediate effect.
Yours,
Dr. Ralf Litzenberg
Managing Director
Shareholder of Halbmond Teppichwerke

The plant is cleaned before every colour and pattern
change. The paint nozzles are rinsed thoroughly
until the water is clear, as even the smallest residues
would contaminate the colours of the following printing order.
August 17th 2008 was the last day of the old
era. On August 18th the ChromoJET production plant, custom-built for Halbmond, was
started up in Oelsnitz. A new part of the company’s history was in place, after all the multimillion investment sets the course for the future. Halbmond and HTW Design Carpet will
distance themselves from their competitors
as far as quality, flexibility, and delivery times
are concerned.
Complex technology and human expertise turn
Halbmond into a specialist for individual carpets.
The innovative nozzle technology of the
ChromoJET printing system scores all down
the line. For example, with the significantly
higher print density: instead of the hitherto
existing 360,000 printer dots per square
meter, now the printing consists of 1 million
pixels on one and the same area. The result:
extreme accuracy, smooth colour gradient,
photo realistic prints – patterns in unprecedented brilliance.
A further advantage: 12,288 nozzles present
improved design print stability, reducing the
standstills which benefits the quality of the
product.
Halbmond increases its production capacity by 50% with the investment in the new
ChromoJET printing system presenting
significantly more flexibility in the order
processing. In short, Halbmond and HTW
Design Carpets’ customers can look forward
to prints in the highest brilliance and also to
shorter delivery times.
Background
10 m wide, 9 m long and 3,5 m high, these
are the impressive dimensions of the new
ChromoJET printing system. Not less impressive is the variety of 24 different colours
that can be individually mixed for the different patterns and the printing process itself. A
moveable sliding carriage moves with 12,288
paint nozzles over the 4 metre wide carpet
web while the nozzles open and close computer-controlled – up to 400 times per second. Once the print head has completed the
forward and backward movement, the web is
automatically moved forward accurately to a
tenth of a millimetre. This way, the following
colour printing sequence starts at exactly the
part of the base web goods, which is already
printed to the bottom of the pile. The ordered
pattern is developed like this bit by bit, while
each and every dot of the 1 million dots is
exactly there where it has to be.
The manufacturer of this ChromoJET printing
system and supplier of the respective software and computer system is the company
Zimmer Maschinenbau GmbH from Kufstein,
Austria, one of the leading companies in the
field of carpet and textile printing and coating machines. In 2007, Zimmer founded two
competence centres, one for digital printing
in Kufstein, and one for screen printing in
Klagenfurt, in order to focus amongst other
reasons a reinforcement of the research and
development area. Combined with experiences of many decades and not least due to
customer proximity this focusing guarantees
that the machines developed by Zimmer are
worldwide installed by leading users. Further
information: www.zimmer-austria.com.
No matter if a pattern has 2 or 24 colours, if it’s big or
small: a high-capacity computer calculates with specific programmes the web area which is then printed
with 12,288 paint nozzles!
The new printing technology combines flexibility and
colour saturation of an injection printing plant with the
precision of a rotary printing.
Even the most modern technology
doesn’t produce on its own. All printing
process stages are accurately controlled
– manually and automatically.
With the start up of this innovation,
Halbmond presents not only the most
modern injection printing plant in the
world but also – as measured by the
colours – the biggest. Up to 24 colours
can be printed at the same time.

for design.
An example therefore is the carpet that was created by
Halbmond on behalf of Manor AG. The responsible team
of the biggest Suisse department store chain created
with a combination of smoothed cement floor and hardwearing carpet an extraordinary exhibition area. Most of
the visitors to the Geneva house automatically head for
the 9,50 m wide and 85 m long catwalk where exclusive
textiles play to the gallery.
The catwalk consists of 22
webs, each of 4 x 9,50 m,
and was created with an
across pattern repeat and
millimetre accurately produced.
Promising ::
Casino Million
Halbmond brings also in Moscow new ideas into play: the company
created the spirited carpet for the new casino in the Russian capital.
It bears the promising name “Million” and is located in the atrium of
a big shopping centre near the capital. The carpet pattern in form of
91 x 91cm flagstones, created by the renowned designer Maksim
Kosizin, presents an exemplary performance. It just remains to wish
that the floor decor, covering a total area of 2,500 square metres,
brings the necessary luck to all visitors.

Hotel Ramada, Sibiu, Rumania ::
A cultural eastern
enlargement
Sibiu is a Rumanian city located at the river Zibin. According to THE GUARDIAN, the metropolis ranks
on position 9 of the top 50 must-visit-cities. In 2007, Sibiu was Europe’s Capital of Culture. And in spite of
everything, many people still know Sibiu as the city once named “Hermannstadt”.
The city hall of Sibiu is located
on the square Piata Mare, formerly called Grosser Ring, and
is one of three squares of the
historic center of the city.

Sibiu or Hermannstadt? Asking the approximately 1,550,000 million inhabitants
of the metropolis at the brink of the South
Carpathians, how the city is actually called,
you’ll clearly get ambiguous answers, because both are still the official names. The
name Hermannstadt reminds of the prosperity of the 14th century when the city was one
of the most important German colonies in
Transylvania. But the metropolis is not only
reflecting historic roots due to its name: in
Hermannstadt you comfortably drift between
space and time like for example from the Old

years economically into the strongest city of
the country. The Hotel Ramada symbolizes
this boom: on the creation of this example
of modern architecture the responsible persons understood the art of omitting and just
setting single accents without overloading
the integral concept. The floor for the stylish ambiance is decorated with 7,500 square
metres of individual carpet – with the spirit to
strong colours and cautious shadings.
Since the early 21st century the city has enjoyed a continuous boom: Increasing tourism and investments – amongst others the
public infrastructure and building measures
of the Old Town – turned Sibiu within a few

Hotel Alexa, Baltic Sea island of Ruegen, Germany ::
A touching past
Those who resided since June 2008 in the Hotel Alexa on the island of Ruegen will especially remember one
house that stands with its decorated facade and the lovingly detailed interior for best Baltic resort tradition.
Nothing remembers that the hotel was forcedly expropriated in 1953 and was used about 40 years by the NVA
National People’s Army. Thanks to the today’s proprietors the visitor neither notices that since 1973 any refurbishment measures were denied.
In the early fifties the house was called
“Seestern” and welcomed resort guests who
were looking for recovery at the south-eastern
tail of the island of Ruegen. In 1953 followed
the forced expropriation and with this an unemotional refurbishment that turned the hotel
into a simple accommodation with 54 rooms.
Furthermore, the house was expanded with a
huge and most of all functional gastronomy
area. Refurbished, the former hotel served
long years as a resort for NVA officers and as
a central logistics base for three further institutions. With the German reunification came
the end of the NVA era, but not yet the old
prosperity. The degeneration of the former
beauty wasn’t stopped until 2007 when KarlHeinz Bringer, today’s proprietor, bought the
building.
Lilies and meanders

house and set the tone

rooms.

Bringer’s first act was a thorough recovery of
the hotel equal to a complete refurbishment.
And it is a result to be proud of: artful ornaments in pillars and balustrades reflect the
former glorious era before the forced expropriation. And also the interior of the formerly
called Baltic Sea Hotel, which meanwhile
bears the name Hotel Alexa, shows that KarlHeinz Bringer has a lot of love for details.
Single elements like lilies and meanders are
decorated on furniture and walls lasting to
the floor. The guests who spend their holiday
will discover the lily also on the letterhead of
the house.

of DEHOGA Ruegen and his wife.

Holiday Inn Berlin City East Landsberger Allee, Berlin, Germany ::
From an accommodation for
workers to an upper-class hotel
“The townsfolk are fine, but too rude and illiterate. They love conviviality and drinking more than
sciences”. These not really flattering words stated Johannes Trithemius, one of the most important
wide-variety scientists of his era. And not only the author, but also these lines are of historic importance.
As these memoirs from the 16th century are the oldest travelogues about Berlin.
“The drinking excesses are not seen
as vices”, says another quotation by
Johannes Trithemius. Whether this
assumption applies nowadays, should
Berlin city travellers verify on their own
on a city night-life tour.
10,880 square metre of carpet in Art Super
quality were laid on the first reconstruction
stage.

“On the refurbishment of the Holiday Inn Berlin City
East Landsberger Allee an integral concept was necessary, meeting not only the technical requirements
of the Holiday-Inn-standards but also the emotional
wishes of the guests.” Mayer Hotelplan, Jürgen Mayer
Since the historic lines were composed,
some things probably changed ... except
for the “sharp Berlin tongue” that many
non-Berliners dread. Those who escape
from this fear and would like to get to know
Germany’s capital, should check-in in the
Holiday Inn Berlin City East Landsberger
Allee. The hotel is known for a great service – including polite manners. But this was
not always like this, in the early eighties the
quite rude speak prevailed. At that time the
construction with the three towers was built
it served as an accommodation house for
workers that constructed new apartment
blocks in the East Berlin areas of Marzahn
and Hohenschoenhausen.
As the company counts with certain standards for all hotels, with a new name, a new
refurbishment necessarily came along. The
company Mayer Hotelplan was entrusted
with the project, and initially refurbished
312 rooms and large parts of the hallways in
2008. The remedial action of the remaining
areas will be completed in spring 2009. But
the refurbishment doesn’t present any obstacles to stay in the Holiday Inn Berlin City
East Landsberger Allee, as a smart concept
guarantees that guests are not disturbed.
And on your tours through Berlin you can
find out if you agree with Johannes Trithemius and his statements ...
After the workers had moved out, by the
middle of the eighties a new era started for
the building, it was then refurbished itself. It
turned to be a tourist hotel. The proprietor
changed two times, and then after an appropriate refurbishment it reopened under a
new name on the hotel market. Since 2006,
the hotel belongs to the Fantastic Hotels
GmbH, being the company that leads since
March 2008 the hotel under the name Holiday Inn Berlin City East Landsberger Allee.
The incipiencies of today’s
4 star house: in the eighties,
the construction was built with
three characteristic towers
specifically as an accommodation for workers.
The hallways were laid out with
carpets of 300 gram felt upper
surface quality in order to damp
the footfall sound.
