Before you ramp up your watering this spring, spruce up your irrigation system by remembering four simple steps-inspect, connect, direct and select: • Inspect. Check your system for clogged, broken or missing sprinkler heads or go with a pro look for an irrigation professional certified through a WaterSense labeled program to help. • Connect. Examine points where the sprinkler heads connect to pipes/hoses. If water pools in your landscape or you have large wet areas, you could have a leak in your system. • Direct. Are you watering the driveway, house or sidewalk instead of your yard? Redirect sprinklers to apply water only to the landscape. • Select. Update your watering schedule with the seasons or select a WaterSense labeled controller to take the guesswork out of scheduling. CINCO MUD 8 along with the NFBWA is continuing to provide FREE irrigation system evaluations to homeowners. New for 2016, have your evaluation, make repairs and Cinco MUD 8 will rebate you 50% of your irrigation repairs/upgrades up to $200. Also Cinco MUD 8 will rebate you 100% for installing a rain barrel. See www.cincomud8.com and www.NFBWA.com for more info. HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE CINCO RANCH GIVING CIRCLE? Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections. Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls. Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy. (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will graduate and the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you want on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send emails in the summer to make sure all the info is still good and that you want to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from you after 3 tries, we will remove you from the list until we do. Must have parent(s) permission. CINCO RANCH DISCLAIMER Neither Cinco Ranch HOA nor Krenek Printing is responsible for those listed on the Teenage Job Seeker List. Please ask for and check out references if you do not personally know those listed. This is just a list of teenagers from Cinco Ranch who wish to find part time jobs. Responsibility for any work done by these teenagers is between those seeking helpers and the teens and their parents. CINCO RANCH TEENAGE JOB SEEKER’S LIST Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering: • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!! TEENAGE JOB SEEKERS If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form on our website (www.krenekprinting. com, click submissions and choose Jobseekers) with your name, birthdate Cinco Ranch I Community Newsletter April 2016 3 The Kleaning Company • Load & Unload Dishwasher • Clean Outside of Appliances • Sweep Front Porch • Change Linens & Towels • Dust Window Ledges & Sills • Remove Trash • Dust Mini Blinds & Ceiling Fans • Damp Wipe Outside of Cabinets • Clean Baseboards • Pool Services • Personal Assistance Care • Move In/Out • Competitive Rates • locally Owned & Operated • Bonded & Insured • FREE PHONE ESTIMATE $ 281-861-0394 10 OFF First Visit www.thekleaningcompany.com e r y “Dust if you must, but why not have us.” Home Maintenance and Repair No job is too small. • Experienced Vetted Techs • Bonded & Insured • Satisfaction Guaranteed 281-357-4263 www.mrhandyman.com 10% Off Labor Discount with this Ad Behlmann Law Firm, LP Estate Planning & Asset Protection Board Certified in Estate Planning & Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization • Probate Specialist • Living Trusts & Wills • Powers of Attorney & Health Care Directives • Medicaid Trusts, Elder Law, Medicaid Planning • Special Needs Planning & Guardianships • LLC’s, Family LLC’s & Limited Partnerships • Business Formation & Planning Richard Behlmann Attorney Fidelity Attorney Access Program Approved Free Initial Estate Planning & Probate Consultations www.behlmannlaw.com 281-398-0088 21218 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77450 "All The Pest Control You'll Ever Need" PEST CONTROL SERVICE, INC. It is a computer-generated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their community. To request more information or to enroll in this free and very beneficial program, please call the Sheriff’s Dept. at 281-3414704. RECYCLE AT THE FT. BEND COUNTY RECYCLING CENTER! The Ft. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512. Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option. ATTENTION! PET POOPS / YOU SCOOP Please be respectful of community grounds and neighbors’ yards. If your pet poops during your walk, be prepared to scoop and trash. Come with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show your respect for every homeowner and our beautiful community. FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL) When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses. Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact [email protected] or see www.ncjwhouston.org. 28 April 2016 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT CHRIST CLINIC KATY Christ Clinic Katy is a nonprofit that provides quality healthcare to uninsured and underinsured patients living Fort Bend and Harris Counties. KATY AREA RIDE SERVICE NEEDS YOUR HELP DRIVING OLDER ADULTS Katy Area Ride Service (KARS) is looking for your assistance in transporting seniors in need of personal (hair salon, bank, classes, volunteering, visiting a loved one, taking a pet to the vet) and occasional medical rides. One third of the older adults in your neighborhood live with this loss of independence daily. Rides are provided in your personal vehicles to passengers who are age 65+ and ambulatory (not wheelchair bound, may use walking aids). Time commitment is flexible and you choose the Katy territory in which you want to drive. Volunteers do not provide rides that go east of Barker Cypress, north of Clay Road, west of FM 1463 or south of Bellaire Blvd at the Grand Parkway. Benefits to Volunteer Drivers include the opportunity to help seniors retain independent living, dignity and freedom. Drivers tell us the day(s) and times they are able to drive. Drivers choose if they wait for the senior or return later to pick them up. Drivers must be between 21 years of age and 78 years of age with a good driving record, pass a background check and show proof of insurance coverage (state minimums) as required by the State of Texas. To request a volunteer driver application, call 832-773-8645 or email info@ karskaty.org. KARS operates under an official 501(c)(3) that designates it as a transportation service provider for seniors and non-wheelchair bound persons with disabilities.
