April “Autism Awareness Month” ALMA’S Teens Needing Teens Peer Mentor Program The programs mission is to give teens on the autism spectrum an opportunity to share and enjoy typical teen experiences and outings while learning social and life skills. The program continues through February 2017 with applications still open to teens ages 12-21 with an autism diagnosis. Peer mentors will be assigned and assist all TNT participants. Sessions will consist of monthly learning labs, mentor phone call follow ups, and community outings. A graduation ceremony will be held to celebrate their success at the end of the program!! *Parents must provide transportation. Also the program is offering monthly trainings for parents interested in learning more about Applied Behavior Analysis. The focus of the trainings will be on understanding and managing challenging behavior for a specific age group. Everyone knows and recognizes the Paso del Norte Children’s Development Centers logo and we will continue to use this logo, but it was time for us to develop a logo that represents the Community Resource Center. I hope that you like it and that you share it with others. Epilepsy Support Group Meeting Friday April 22. 2016 at 10:00am 1101 E Schuster Ave 79902 I want to encourage families to take advantage of the respite opportunities that we offer. Every month, we offer Parent’s Night Out, please take advantage of this, sign up with Tania Alvarez, it is the third Friday of every month. We also have scholarships to help families that want to bring their child to our summer camp. The summer camp starts on Monday June 13 and it ends August 19. I also want to highlight the importance of participating in Autism Awareness Activities this month and Child Abuse Prevention Activities. Children are precious, let’s all work together to keep them safe, they are our future!
