Day 1: Barcelona
Barcelona
It is a cosmopolitan city of great commercial, financial, and tourism importance. It has an impressive
cultural offer, with some interesting museums like the
Joan Miró Foundation and the Picasso Museum. You
can also appreciate the city’s art just by taking a stroll
through its enchanting streets.
The world-famous Sagrada Familia church and the
Park Guell
Boqueria Market
stunning Park Güell are a couple of examples of how
Antonio Gaudi decorated the city in his spectacular
fashion. But Barcelona is not only about art; it also offers sun-baked beaches and a seductive gastronomic
offer.
Gothic Quarter
It is one of the most attractive parts of Barcelona,
and its streets abound in medieval buildings such as
Casa Milá
Casa Batlló
Boqueria Market
Sant Josep Market, better known as “La Boqueria”, is in the heart of La Rambla Avenue. It is Barcelona’s
most famous and picturesque market. This emblematic spot in the city, in what was once the patio of
Sant Josep Church, was inaugurated in 1836. Initially the market was open-air, with travelling sellers’
and farmers’ stalls, selling their goods directly to the public. It was eventually covered and made into
the palaces of the Town Hall and the Generalitat (the
Catalan Regional Government), and the Gothic churches of Santa María del Pi and Sant Just y Pastor. It also
contains the Jewish quarter, comprising a network of
narrow streets and where part of its former synagogue
can still be seen today.

Day 2: Golf at PGA de Cataluña
PGA de Cataluña
Founded: 1998

After achieving top place in 2012 in the prestigious

ranking by www.top100golfcourses.co.uk, in 2013 the
Stadium course at the PGA Cataluña Resort maintains
its position as the best golf course in Spain.
It is rare to find so many memorable holes on one
course and despite the many ups and downs, tees are
elevated and very few fairways are uphill. The stunning
dogleg of hole 6 is one of them and it demands nothing
less than a driver and total commitment.

Travel Information
1. Passports, Visas and Documentation
If you are a citizen of the EU, Switzerland, Norway,
Iceland or Liechtenstein: you will need a valid passport or ID card.
Spain is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This
means that U.S. citizens may enter Spain for up to
90 days in a six-month period for tourist or business
purposes without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay
lishments, accompanied by your passport).
2. Medical insurance.
U.S. citizen tourists are not entitled to free medical care in Spain, including Spanish Social Security
medical facilities. Although you will receive medical attention in an emergency, this will be liable for
payment. We recommend to find out before you leave
whether or not your medical insurance will cover you
overseas. If your policy doesn’t go with you when you
travel, we strongly recommend to take out supplementary medical insurance for your trip.
5. What to pack.
Since Spain has so many days of sunshine and its
temperatures are generally warmer than many other
European countries, pack as few clothes as possible.
Unless you choose to visit in winter, light-weight
clothing is usually an ideal choice.
3. Currency and payment.
The unit of currency in Spain is the euro (€). There
are restrictions on the amount of currency (euro or
other) that foreigners may bring with them to Spain.
Tipping is not obligatory in Spain, although it is common practice in bars, restaurants, hotels and taxis.
You can change foreign currency in banks (open
Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 2 pm) and foreign
exchange bureaus in the main cities. This service is
also available in most hotels and travel agencies.
You can pay with any international credit card (you’ll
need to show your passport or ID. document) or with
travellers’ cheques (these are accepted in many estab-
4. Climate.
Spain has a predominantly warm Mediterranean
climate, with dry summers and winters with balanced
temperatures. Here you can enjoy more than 3,000
hours of sunshine per year. Temperatures vary greatly
from one season to the next, with cold winters, and
really hot summers.
6. Tax-free
If you live outside the European Union, then you can
claim back the tax any purchases totaling over €90.15.
There are various companies in Spain authorized to
process the reimbursement of I.V.A. (Value Added
Tax) to tourists.
These are the procedures to follow:
1) Ask for a tax-free invoice and show your passport.
2) Show your purchases and stamp the tax-free receipts at customs. (Receipts must be stamped within 3
months of purchase.)
3) Claim the amount due from the company processing the claim. They all have I.V.A. reimbursement
points at the main Spanish airports and borders, for
payment in cash. You can also have the I.V.A. repaid
to your credit card, by bank transfer or international
cheque.
7. Shopping
Shops are generally open 10am-2pm and 5-8.30pm,
although many larger stores and shopping centers do
not close for lunch. The majority of shops close on
Sundays, and a few still close on Saturday afternoon
8. Time difference
Spain is 1hr ahead of GMT in winter and 2hr ahead
GMT in summer.
The Spanish keep very different hours from North
Americans. As a general rule, restaurants serve lunch
from 1.30pm-3.30pm and dinner from 9pm to 11pm.
However many establishments offer service all day
long. At night, and particularly from Thursday to
Sunday nights, nightclubs and discos remain open
until 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning, or until dawn in
large cities.
9. Is Spain a safe country?
In general terms, Spain is one of the safest countries
in Europe for visiting tourists.
As in any country, there are basic security measures
to bear in mind:
Try not to walk around empty streets or poorly-lit
areas, and avoid street gambling stalls. Try to carry
only the money you need for any one excursion. Take
care of your possessions in crowded places such as
public transport or department stores. When relaxing
in public places, keep valuable objects like mobile
phones and cameras out of view.
Do not forget advice from security experts: Prevention is the best cure for this kind of problem. If you
need help you can contact the Police on 112.
