September is here and it brings us cooler
nights, football games, and lots of great activities at the Camano Center. Tickets are
now on sale and going fast for our 10th Annual Gala Auction on Saturday, September
24. Our decorating committee is busy planning the transformation of the Center for the
evening to “Havana Nights”. Cuban food
and drink will be offered as well as well as
some other little surprises. Adin Collver,
our catering director, has planned an amazing dinner for us. Great
items, great food and drink make for a great evening. Please join us at
this not to be missed event.
Also this month we have three musical concerts. The first concert will
be Tuesday, September 6 with Susan Pascal, a Seattle jazz vibraphonist. September 14th features the renowned Mac Frampton on piano
from 7 to 9 pm. Mac is very entertaining and this promises to be a fun
filled evening of music. And the Julian Macdonough Dixie Louis
Armstrong Tribute Band will be playing on Wednesday, September 28.
This month is a great time to reconnect to the Center. Come join a
class, go on a trip, or join us for lunch. Volunteering is a great way to
meet new people and to get connected in the community. Consider
signing up here or at the thrift shop. As always thank you for supporting the Center and its important work through your membership renewals, volunteer work, and financial support.
Have a great month and come on in and get connected!!!

Laurent: The Perfection of Style."
It just wouldn't be fall without some outdoor fun
in the crisp, autumn air. We've combined two
requested venues into one trip offering something for "Daytrippers" of all ages. Having
heard such good things about the Outback Kangaroo Farm in Arlington, we'll spend part of the
day there, and part of it enjoying classic fall activities like corn mazes, a U-Pick pumpkin
patch, Cowbarrel train rides, and lots of fresh
produce and delicious autumn treats at Foster's
Produce, Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST! We have one more
chance to get a group of 10 together for the
popular musical, "Mama Mia!" This is their
farewell performance, and it's only going to be
offered one day, so DON'T DELAY! Sign up
right away so we can (hopefully) get good seats
before they are sold out.
Well, that about does it for this issue. See you
on the bus!

T
he 25th Annual Collector’s Car Show and
Outdoor Market was a great success with
118 beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles, 15
vendors, DJ entertainment, pulled pork sandwiches, a beer garden, great raffle prizes, and
incredible weather!
Randy and Marla Heagle generously donated
the use of two golf carts to bring people to and
from the parking lot next door. The Lions
Club helped find parking places for the many
cars that came to the Center that day. Walt and
Marilyn Grosjean spent many hours slow cooking pork for the pulled pork sandwiches and
baking homemade cookies to go with the
lunch. Sherral Lane helped secure vendors for
the event and get donations while her husband
Gary helped encouraged other car owners to
participate in the event. Kari Lightner and
Joyce Delk worked hard to get the 60 pre-
registration packets ready for the day of the
show and were here bright and early to take the
58 new registrations that came on Saturday. Stacy Learned from Pub 282 sponsored
and worked the beer garden with help from her
friend Mickey. Thank you to Darlene Miller,
Karyn DeYong, Luci and Gary Morgan, Sandy
Stein, Judy Swearinger, Evelyn Root, Jody
Noyes and David Gibson who all contributed
time and energy as volunteers for the event.
This event would not have been possible the
support of our generous sponsors: Stanwood

choices available, including hospice,
palliative care, voluntary stopping eating and
drinking (VSED), and Death with Dignity.
Take part in a practical, hand-on class preparing your end-of-life documents. Leave with a
completed advance directive.
You will be guided through the process of
documenting your wishes about the kind of
medical care you do or do not want at the end
of life.
You will have the opportunity to work with
the End of Life Washington Advance Directive, which combines a living will and durable
power of attorney for health care into one
document.
There is no cost for the seminar, documents or
notarization.
Karen Griffith and Judy McCay are sisters and
volunteers with end of Life Washington.
They train volunteers to sit vigil at the beside
of dying patients.
Karen currently serves on the board of the
Hospice Foundation for Jefferson Healthcare
in Port Townsend. As she gets older, Karen
says the more real and less theoretical end-oflife choices have become. She has a passion to
educate people on what those choices are and
has helped many clients walk that final journey.
When her husband was in hospice and expressed his wish to take advantage of the
Death with Dignity Act, Judy became acquainted with End of Life WA. Judy strongly
believes every adult should be prepared for
future medical situations by having completed
an advance directive and have an understanding of their options when faced with the end of
their life.

Solar Potential
Solar energy potential dwarfs the potential
from every other energy resource on the
planet. (Note that, in the following chart, the
energy potential for renewables is annual energy potential, whereas the energy potential
from non-renewables is for total known reserves.)
The sun actually delivers to earth more energy in one hour than the entire world uses in
a whole year.

If you are fascinated by solar energy or electric vehicles, both of which are critically important to switching to clean energy to reduce
our collective climate footprint, the Clean
Technica website is a great source of information.
On August 17, they published an article by
Zachary Shahan entitled 10 Solar Energy
Facts & Charts You (& Everyone) Should
Know. Here are three of the facts. See the article online for the other seven.
US solar energy industry added more jobs in
2015 than the US oil & gas extraction & pipeline industries added combined, and grew 12x
faster than the US economy as a whole.
The country leading annual solar power installations is now China, with the US at number three, behind Japan.
