Letter from the Director
The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department’s
mission is to improve the quality of life in the greater
Pueblo Community. In 2012, we accomplished significant
strides in the development of programs, services and
enhancements to our facilities that positively impacted
quality of life for Pueblo citizens. Some examples include:
•Construction of new shelters, shade structures and
picnic area in City Park including the Rotary 43
Centennial Pavilion, a large group shelter.
Steven Meier
Interim Director
•Revitalization of turf at Ballfields #3 and #4 at City Park
and the ballfield at St. Anne’s Park.
•Established a partnership with Mile High Youth Corps to complete several river
trail projects while providing the young workers with a college scholarship.
•Camp T’Kai Adventures, a new summer camp experience, was offered at City
Park. It evolved into one of our most successful youth programs.
•Developed a safe quality youth socialization opportunity with the development of
Friday Night Lazer Lights at the Pueblo Ice Arena. The popularity of this program
resulted in an additional Saturday night session.
•Completion of the concession stand at Pueblo Ice Arena.
•Increased volunteer opportunities, community clean-ups and in the process of
formalizing an Adopt-A-Park program through an enhanced partnership with
the Pueblo Volunteer Center.
•Completion of eight acres of multi-use fields at Lake Minnequa Park, which was
partially funded through a grant from the Denver Broncos and coordinated by
the Pueblo Police Activities League.
•In a partnership with the Colorado Lottery, trail map signs were installed
throughout the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek trail from Colorado State
University-Pueblo to the Pueblo Reservoir.
Looking forward, there are significant projects planned to reinforce and develop
quality of life in Pueblo. Look for the following projects and programs throughout
the year.
•Renovations to Bessemer Park to include: improvements at Joe Santos Softball
Field, ADA compliant pathways and picnic areas throughout the park, new
playground equipment, and landscaping.
•Installation of a new restroom at City Park near the “City Bark” dog park.
•Continue building and enhancing partnerships with other corporate, regional
and local businesses and organizations.
•Implement the Pueblo Parks and Recreation sponsorship program to actively seek
alternative forms of funding such as sponsorships and grants to maintain, if not
elevate, levels of service.
•Improvements and renovations throughout the City Parks to include various
memorials such as the Vietnam Memorial, Mineral Palace Park and new
playground equipment at Briarwood Park and Drew Dix Park.
Thank you for the support of our programs, services and facilities. The staff and I are
here to support you and provide quality of life enhancing opportunities.

Show: “Oklahoma”
Directed by: Nicholas Roberts
Pueblo City Schools and the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department are proud to present Oklahoma! as the
55th Summer Musical.
Music and lyrics by: Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II
Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and was the first musical
presented by Pueblo’s Summer Musical program in 1959. Set in a Western Indian territory in 1906, the high-spirited rivalry
between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against witch Curly, a handsome cowboy, and
Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious finacee, Ado Annie. The music and lyrics have proven to be some of the best in musical theater with songs that include
“Oh What a Beautiful Morning”, “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top”, “People Will Say We’re in Love”, “I Can’t Say No”,
“Oklahoma!” and many more, making this a musical treat for the whole family.
