HISTORY
The construction of Hotel das Cataratas started in 1939, which is located in a privileged position alongside the Iguassu
Falls and has beautiful colonial architecture. The hotel is now managed by Orient-Express, who in October 2009
completed a major rennovation of the hotel and guest experience to fully capture the unique location.

Superior rooms located in the main building are approximately 20 square meters in size with bathrooms with twin vanity
units and a bath with a shower. The Forest Wing rooms are distributed over three floors and are 24 square metres in size
and enjoy a view of the forest. Some rooms have a balcony. Rooms in the Forest Wing feature marble topped twin vanity
units in the bathroom and a shower.

These spacious rooms are approximately 30 square metres in size and feature twin beds and Portuguese style decor
with paintings by Brazilian artist Ludmilla de Montes. These comfortable Deluxe Rooms are characterised by beautiful

The National Park

THE NATIONAL PARK
The Iguassu National Park, home to the Iguassu Waterfalls is formed of 185 000 hectares of forest reserve. Found in the
Western extremities of Paraná, in the Iguassu River Basin, this is the last extensive area of Atlantic Rainforest in the
South of Brazil.
The National Park was created with the principal goal of maintaining the area for future generations. A significant step
for the area came in 1986 when UNESCO listed the Iguaçu National Park as a ‘Natural Heritage of Humanity’ area.
The most important Park in the Prata Basin, and home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna this is an area of
preservation where only 0.3% of the total expanse of the parkland is open to visitors. The National Park also spreads into
the Misiones Region of Argentina, with the Iguaçu River a natural border between the two countries.
