Message from
the General Manager
Winter/Spring 2016
Our park system is surviving this extended drought
and you can see we’ve increased watering at many
parks as a result of the direction we have received
from water suppliers and the city, still maintaining a
20% overall reduction of water use in our system.
There is quite a bit of rehabilitation yet to be done in
our parks, particularly in the turf areas, and we are
still implementing methods of saving water in our
landscape as a means to adapt to shorter water supplies. Thank you for your support and patience as
we all work together to address the drought.
We hope you get out of the house this winter and
spring and enjoy the great outdoors at local parks,
trails and open spaces. We have some of the most
beautiful outdoor spaces in the Tri-Valley and you
owe it to yourself to get out and enjoy them.
Our low-cost Ranger Programs at Sycamore Grove
Park and other locations are a great way to get out to
open space parks, enjoy the fresh air and exercise,
and learn more about local flora and fauna. With fun
and interesting topics, our talented and personable
rangers will provide an enjoyable and educational
experience for you and your family.
New Year’s Resolutions? Who needs them! Well,
maybe we do need at least some goals for the new
year to motivate us to change that which needs
changing, right? As a living being, we need change
in our lives so we can learn and evolve. Our parks,
open spaces and trails are ideal places to resolve to
get more exercise and enjoy healthy activities. Our
recreation programs lift spirits, teach new skills, and
allow you to meet others and develop social relationships.
If we experience the “El Nino” rain that is predicted,
you may be cooped up in the house for extended periods of time (but that’s okay…we sure could use
the water!). Rain or shine, our Robert Livermore
Community Center is open for business seven
days a week and always has something for you
to do. Browse through this catalogue and
choose some interesting activities in which to
enroll, and plan your time to get out of the house
and experience an enjoyable and fulfilling activity
with LARPD programs and facilities.
Happy
Holidays!

Parks Make Life Better!
“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds
long to play with your hair.”
~Khalil Gibran
An extensive research study by the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) asked California citizens and
public officials “Why are parks important to you?” The results demonstrated that parks and recreation are very
important to the residents of California for a variety of reasons.
Parks and recreation make lives and communities better today and in the future
by providing: 1. outdoor spaces to play; 2. access to the serenity and inspiration of nature; 3. opportunities for human development and lifelong
learning; 4. spaces to exercise, and; 5. activities
that facilitate social connections.
LARPD is excited to join other communities statewide in the unified message that
Parks Make Life Better! And to help you pursue your leisure, we thought we’d
provide a look at how your LARPD parks do make life better...
Play
LARPD recreation and parks provide safe, vibrant places to play.
Nature
LARPD Open Spaces provide opportunities to enjoy the beauty and serenity of
the great outdoors, and promote conservation, care, and preservation of our
wilderness areas.
Positive Human Development
Whether in an LARPD ESS student program or lifelong enrichment class,
purposeful play decidedly boosts learning.
Exercise
Movement keeps us healthy throughout life and LARPD has so many programs to
choose from you’ll never get out of shape!
Positive Spaces
LARPD has so many places to enjoy free-time fun you’ll be busy all year. There are skate
parks, gyms, sport team playing fields, picnic spots, special event halls, and more!
“Now, go out and find what inspires you…explore your imagination…build
relationships…create your future.” (1)

Passing, shooting, dribbling, GOAL! The development now is an emphasis on putting it all together, even the team. All teaching is conducted through play and fun activities. Visually learning how and
why, as the team works through scrimmages and game situations.
Defense and offensive tactics and strategies are built upon, through
small-sided games. The emphasis is on having fun and learning not
winning or keeping score. Individual and team skills are of equal importance at this level. Expectations of each position in a small-sided
game format are explained and developed for a truly exceptional
soccer experience. 8 classes. No class 2/13, 2/15, 5/28, 5/30.
