Bhonslas of Nagpur, Silver Rupee, 11.48g, Katak Mint, in the name of Shah Alam II, RY 22. Extremely fine, extremely rare.
Similar rupees were listed by P.P. Kulkarni ('Coinage of the Bhonsla Rajas of Nagpur', p. 135, Type 19). The calligraphy of the coins bears a striking
similarity to the East India Company's coins of Murshidabad / Calcutta mints. It is not certain who was behind their issue; if the mint-name is 'real',
the Bhonslas remain the best contenders but if it is a pseudo-mint name, i.e. the coins are struck at a place further North into the British realms they
could well be East India Company issues. However, more proof is needed to substantiate this position.

Contrary to attributions perpetuated in KM, coins of Gohad mint in the name of Shah Alam II are not all issues of Dholpur State, which was not even
founded until the very last year of the emperor's reign. Gohad was captured from the Jat Rana by Mahadaji Sindhia in 1784 and remained a part of
Gwalior until it was eventually transferred to the British in 1806. The Jat Raja, an ally of the British, was compensated by reinstatement at Dholpur.

241
Manak Pal, Nazarana Gold Mohur, 11.32 g, AH 1199/26, struck at Karauli with pseudo mint-name 'Sawai Jaipur', with mount
otherwise about uncirculated, very rare.
These mohur's were published by Jan Lingenin JONS No 202. According to him, they were struck to celebrate the wedding of Maharaj Kumari of
Karauli to the Rao Raja of Bundi, Bishen Singh (Maharaja of Bundi from 1804-1821), in 1785. It is likely that the coins were distributed as a 'good
luck' objects to the attendees. As such the coins were made into jewellery. Most coins of this kind recently surfaced on the market have the mount
removed. This one, however, retains it and it adds considerably to the originality of the object.

Gold Scott Pagoda, 3.38g, ND, Negapatnam Mint, Obv: standing Deity with upraised arms, Rev: Granulated field. Extremely fine,
extremely rare.
This issue is said to have been struck under authority of a Captain Scott of Tanjore after the British captured Negapatam in 1781. They thus became
known as "Scott's Pagoda" or Iskat-Pagoda. The obverse crude representation of a single standing deity is derived from the Negapatam issues of
the Dutch struck after 1662, which in itself is derived from a Vijayanagar prototype. Pridmore did not recognise the type but is known as the IskatPagoda. Some scholars believe this coins strucked by Travancore King Martand Varma.
