ENTRY PACK
Running since 1975, this biennial event is an opportunity for Pony Clubbers to enjoy a full and
varied program of riding and fun. It is a more informal weekend of riding than the
Championships and a great opportunity to try something a little bit different.

 The rider/horse combination must have 3 rally attendances since 10th March, 2012.
 Rally Declarations: The office will send to the clubs after close of entries and club officials are
to sign and send back by Monday March 18th.

 Helpers – upon entry you will be required to provide one helper per rider per horse.

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
It is in the competitor’s, parent’s/guardian’s interest to read this information
1. The 2013 Pony Club Festival takes place on Saturday & Sunday, 23rd & 24th March 2013. Riding will
commence at 8.00 am each day.
2. The Venue is the State Equestrian Centre, Cathedral Avenue, Brigadoon. Cathedral Avenue runs off
Great Northern Highway (towards the hills) approximately 12 kilometres north of Midland.
3. Rider's Age is taken at the first day of the Year, i.e. 1st January 2013. Copies of Birth Certificates may
be required on request of the subcommittee after entries received.
4. PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR: The wearing of a correctly fitting and secured safety helmet which
complies with the requirements of ASA / NZS 3838: 2003 is compulsory.
Also acceptable are safety helmets which comply with one of the following standards:PAS 015 (UK)
ASTM F 1163 (USA)
EN 1384 (Europe)
The retention harness must be fastened at all times when mounted. Bicycle helmets are not
permitted.
6. UNIFORM
Formal Pony Club Uniform is to be worn for all competitions and presentations. No jewellery
(including earrings, tongue studs and all other piercings) allowed. Please consult the PCAWA Gear
Checking Manual.
7. NOMINATION is per horse/pony
Horse and rider combination to have attended THREE working rallies of a Pony Club since 10TH
March 2012, TWO of which must have been at the Club they will be representing at the Festival.
The One Horse, One Rider Rule will apply for each discipline (e.g. a rider may enter one horse in
the Novelty events and another in the Show Jumping and Dressage).
There will be a maximum of two horses per rider.
No horse may be ridden by more than one rider on the same day (eg a ‘shared’ horse may be ridden
by one rider on one day, and a second rider on the second day).
Only the competitor competing on that day may school or exercise their mounts during the course
of the weekend, including before and after the competition each day. If anyone other than the
competitor is found schooling the horse, the competitor will be eliminated.
PLEASE NOTE: Riders must have completed the above requirements by the closing date for the
competition (11th March 2013).
8. COMPULSORY - ONE HELPER PER RIDER PER HORSE IS REQUIRED (see entry form). The helper
must report for duty at the required time and at the right place, otherwise the rider may be
eliminated from competition.
9. As far as possible, the timetable has been arranged to avoid a clash of events. However, if events do
clash, riders must make their choice of events. Events will NOT be delayed for latecomers.
10. Prizes: Rosettes will be awarded to sixth place and there will be spot prizes awarded throughout
both days for riders who display best attitude, manners, turnout, etc.
11. The organising committee reserves the right to amend, combine or delete any event, to change
times, or to refuse entry.
12. HORSE ACCOMMODATION
All horses and ponies present at the State Equestrian Centre in 2013 will need to pay a compulsory
$15.00 Ground Service Fee per horse/pony per day – unless they are an Equestrian Australia Member
(proof of membership may be required) EA numbers MUST be given on the online entry form
otherwise a ground fee must be charged.
FREE YARDS - There are 300 yards available – 100 at Swan Valley Pony Club and 200 at the Polo
Cross Fields and these are available on a first come basis.
The yards must be left clean as this reflects on PCAWA! A cleaning fee will be charged if yards are
left dirty.
13. PEOPLE ACCOMMODATION Camping is allowed at the State Equestrian Centre.
To book please contact the SEC direct on 9296 1200 Office hours are Mon-Fri, 9am – 4pm.
Please leave your camping areas clean and tidy.
14. CATERING – Will be provided on site from Breakfast to Dinner by Hey Pesto Catering.
15. DOGS, ALCOHOL and SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED. Riders will be eliminated from
competition if a dog or alcohol belonging to any member of your party are found to be present.
Smoking is not allowed and may result in elimination.
16. Competitors may apply in writing to the organising committee (after the close of entries) for
permission to interchange their mounts due to injury, provided Clause (7) applies. Email

17. PCA Showjumping Rules (2012) apply to jumping events, with modifications as stated in the
schedule/programme.
18. BAREBACK CLASSES:
Riders entered in the Bareback Classes MUST BE prepared to CANTER.
19. PROTESTS will not be entered into.
20. LEAD LINE RIDERS: All lead line riders must STAY ON THE LEAD LINE AT ALL TIMES. Lead line riders
must be 9 years and under as of 1/1/2013. Lead liners cannot enter any other class.
21. By entering the PCAWA Festival you are consenting to having you photograph taken and to those
photographs being published on the PCAWA Website or in other promotional material if PCAWA
chooses.
22. ALL RIDERS COMPETE AT THEIR OWN RISK.
23. Scratchings: Please advise the office if you have to scratch from your classes. If you supply a vet or
doctors certificate within 7 days of the Festival you will be refunded your entry costs minus an
administration fee.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF MEMBERSHIP OF PCAWA:

To encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all approved kinds of sport connected with
horses and riding.
To provide instruction in riding, horsemastership and to instil in members the proper care of their
animals.
To promote the highest ideals of fellowship, citizenship and loyalty and to cultivate strength of
character and self-discipline.
Members should be aware Pony Club is a Youth movement and has always maintained a high
standard of behaviour and presentation.
Members should be aware if they are representing the Pony Club in any shape or form, whether it
be Club, Zone, State or Country, that it is expected that their behaviour would never compromise,
bring into disrepute or embarrass themselves, their Club, Zone or State Pony Club Association.
Members should be proud of their involvement in the Pony Club movement and in their uniform.

Ride by the rules.
Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your Team Manager or Club Representative
approach the official during a break or after the competition.
Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players, deliberately
distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport.
The use of bad or abusive language may entail disqualification from any event.
Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your team’s performance will benefit so you
will;
 treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair
advantage of another competitor.
 cooperate with your coach, team-mates and opponents.
 respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability,
cultural background or religion.
A high standard of behaviour is essential and specifically includes:
 compliance with PCA policies; the Member Protection Policy, Alcohol Policy, Anti Doping
Policy and Smoke Free Policy;
 no use or possession of recreational or illicit drugs;
 no sexual liaisons, physical aggression or assault;
 no theft or vandalising of facilities or property;
 no leaving a billet or group without permission;
 no cruel actions or abuse of horses;
 the official uniform is to be worn when representing PCA and at all times as directed by the
Coach, Manager or Chaperone;
 no rider is to be a passenger in a vehicle driven by a person under 18 years of age. Should a rider
experience any difficulties while staying with a host family, it is important that they advise their
Coach, Manager or Chaperone or immediately.
PARENT/GUARDIAN’S CODE OF CONDUCT

Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment.
Encourage children to participate, do not force them.
Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
Encourage children always to play according to the rules and settle disagreements without
resorting to hostility or violence.
Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skilful
plays by all participants.
Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
Respect event officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child
could not participate. Please also note that for the entirety of the Tour, Team Officials
appointed by the PCA and/or State are the sole arbitrators of the Team and Members
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability,
cultural background or religion.
SPECTATOR’S CODE OF BEHAVIOUR






Respect the decisions of officials and teach young people to do the same.
Never ridicule or scold a young rider for making a mistake. Positive comments are
motivational.
Condemn the use of violence in any form, whether it is by other spectators, coaches, officials
or riders.
Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
Do not use violence, harassment or abuse in any form (that is, do not use foul language, sledge
or harass riders, coaches, officials or other spectators)
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural
background or religion.

SHOWJUMPING INFORMATION
2011 Rules – 3 Refusals
1st refusal =4 points, 2nd refusals= 8 points, 3rd refusal or fall =elimination.
RESCUE RELAY
(FEI Article 268.3) - SATURDAY
Competitors may only enter one height class.
EVENTS 1, 2 & 3
Normal Table C rules apply. The first rider starts through the starting flags. If the first rider completes
the course without a fault, the second rider commences their round as soon as the front feet of the first
riders' horse touch the ground over the last fence of the course. The second rider, upon completing the
course, must pass through the finish flags.
If an obstacle is knocked down, either by a horse refusing and sliding into the obstacle or a horse
knocking down the rails whilst jumping, the second rider commences the course by jumping the next
obstacle. The rider does not wait for the obstacle to be re-built.
If the first rider has a refusal, the second rider must jump the obstacle the first rider refused and
continue around the course. If the second rider has a Refusal, the first rider will commence the course
from that obstacle.
The horse which jumps the last obstacle of the course does not jump the first obstacle in the second
round i.e.: - if the first rider has a fault and the second rider completes the first round, the first rider
must then commence the second round.
OPTIMUM TIME TRIAL
(FEI Article 238.1.1)
SATURDAY EVENTS 33 & 34
Competitors may only enter one height class.
Judged under Table A but with no Time Penalties. Speed will be 300 metres per minute. Competitors
jump one round of the course. The winner will be the competitor with the least jumping penalties
closest to the Optimum Time. No time keeping devices (eg watches) may be worn.
ONE ROUND WITH JUMP OFF – AM 7 (FEI Article No 245.3 & 238.2.2)
SUNDAY EVENTS 35, 36 & 37
Competitors may only enter one height class.
In this competition, a competitor with a clear round rides the jump-off course before leaving the arena
(i.e. immediately after the clear round has been completed). The competitor has 30 seconds only to go
through the starting flags after the Judge sounds the bell for the jump-off. The AM7 jump-off may
include two (2) new obstacles in the course.

The course consists of six identical upright obstacles composed of rails in a straight line 11 metres apart.
All obstacles may be the same height or at progressive heights, some of the obstacles are raised after
each round. If a competitor incurs a refusal or run-out they must restart at the obstacle where the fault
occurred.
Competitors with equal faults after the third jump-off (4th round) and where there is no clear winner,
the Judge (Jury) may stop the competition. After the fourth jump-off (5th round), the competition must
stop. The competitors with clear rounds (or lowest equal penalties) are placed equal first. There is no
‘time’ for this event.
POWER & SPEED
(FEI Article 274.5.2)
SATURDAY EVENTS 4 & 5
Competitors may only enter one height class.
A one round competition, judged in two parts with two sets of start and finish flags. The course to
consist of 10 to 12 obstacles. The first 5 or 6 obstacles are of maximum height and spread. The last 5 or
6 obstacles are of lesser height and spread.
Competitors must jump the first 5 or 6 obstacles clear to continue onto the last 5 or 6 obstacles, which
are judged against the clock. A whistle or bell will sound at the end of the first 5 or 6 obstacles if
penalties have been incurred and the competitor leaves the arena.
JUMPING EQUITATION
SUNDAY EVENTS 38, 39 & 40
A one round not against the clock competition judged on the style and technique of both the rider and
horse. Rider is judged over each fence and penalties are given for knockdowns and refusals. The rider
with the highest score wins the class. For further information see the attached judge’s sheet or view the
Equitation guidelines on the PCAWA website on the Showjumping page.
Safety is paramount at all times:

perform a given workout. Competitors must be prepared to ride without stirrups.
The winner will be the combination the judge deems to be the best in the group.

This event will be judged on the ring as an elimination type event, eg:

PLEASURE MOUNT

Gear requirements: No whips or spurs. An ordinary snaffle must be used. Horses should be presented fully
tacked ie. with saddle and bridle. Riders need to be in full Pony Club uniform including helmet and boots.
Competitors will be invited to ride in a hacking ring at walk, trot and canter. They may also be asked to
perform a given workout. This class is judged on the suitability of the mount as a pony club mount for the
age and ability of the rider that is riding it.
The winner will be the combination the judge deems to be the best in the group.
DRESSAGE INFORMATION

Gear requirements: An ordinary snaffle must be used. Horses should be presented fully tacked ie. with
saddle and bridle. Riders need to be in full Pony Club uniform including helmet and boots.
Tests offered will be the Prep A (Walk & Trot only), Preliminary 1A (walk, trot rising and canter) and
Novice 2A (with walk, sitting trot& canter). Competitors may compete in 2 dressage classes.
FANCY DRESS INFORMATION
SATURDAY EVENTS 12 & 13
Approved Safety Helmets and Short or Long Riding Boots must be worn by all competitors.
To be judged on artistic impression and originality.
Classes – 12yrs & Under and 13yrs & Over. Let you imaginations run wild !!!
ACTIVE RIDING CLASSES INFORMATION
Gear requirements: No whips or spurs. An ordinary snaffle must be used.
PONY CLUB MOUNT
SATURDAY EVENTS 19, 20, 21, 22
Gear requirements: No whips or spurs. An ordinary snaffle must be used. Horses should be presented
fully tacked ie. with saddle and bridle and halter with lead rope. Riders need to be in full Pony Club
uniform.
Riders will be invited to take their horse through an obstacle course. They will be required to take their
horse/pony over, under or through various obstacles. The rider maybe required to carry various objects
such as bags, buckets, baskets etc.
The winner will be combination that receives the highest points and the closest to the optimum time.
WESTERN BENDING

EVENTS 23,24,25,26
Equipment needed – 6 Bending Poles set in a straight line (6 metres apart), first pole 12 metres from
start/finish line.
The rider weaves in and out of the bending poles, with the first pole on the right. Continue around
the last pole and returns weaving through the poles to the finish line.
This event will be timed; the winners will be the quickest rider in each age group.
MUG SHUFFLE
SATURDAY
EVENTS 27,28,29,30
Equipment needed – 1 bin set at the centre line, 1 mug, 1 bending pole at the end of each lane.
The rider rides to the bin, places mug on top of the bin, rides up around the pole and returns to collect
the mug from the bin on the centre line before crossing the finish line. The mug must remain upright on
the bin throughout the race.
This event will be timed; the winners will be the quickest rider in each age group.
ONE FLAG
SUNDAY EVENTS 53,54,55,56
Equipment: Start & Finish Line Poles , 2 x 45cm Road cones (not cut). 1 Flag
The riders will start with a flag in their hand and ride to the first road cone and place the flag in it. They
then ride around the marker at the end of the arena, and pick up the flag from the road cone on the way
back to the finish line.
If a rider drops a flag they can dismount, but must place the flag in the road cone from the mounted
position.
The start will be a standing start from a six meter line, with time taken as horse's nose crosses start
finish line.
SPORTING FIGURE OF 8
SUNDAY EVENTS 57,58,59, 60
Equipment: 3 Bending Poles , Money Box on Pole - as per tack shop race (Refer to Prince Phillip
Mounted Games Rules). 1 x tennis Ball , Start & Finish Poles.
Rider rides to money box and collects tennis ball then rides round Pole 1 completing a figure of
eight around poles 2 & 3 in any order, returning tennis ball to money box and then completes game
through start and finish flags.
The start will be a standing start from a six meter line, with time taken as horse's nose crosses start
finish line.
BASKET BALL
SUNDAY EVENTS 61,62,63,64
Equipment:
4 x Bending Poles , 1 x Milk Crate or bucket , Tennis Balls . Hoop (same as Hilo race in PPMG)
Start & Finish Poles.
The rider bends through the poles to the milk crate. Rider picks up a tennis ball (the ball may be picked
up either mounted or dismounted) and continues bending to basket ball hoop. Place the ball in the hoop
and bends back to the start.
If equipment is dropped the rider may dismount, pickup equipment, remount and recommence the
race. PLEASE NOTE: You may bend either way but must retain the same pattern after picking up the ball
at the centre line. On the way back you can bend either way but must retain the same pattern.
The start will be a standing start from a six meter line, with time taken as horse's nose crosses start
finish line.
HANDY PONY
SATURDAY & SUNDAY – EVENTS 31 & 69
The Pony Club Mount should be as forward going as its rider wishes, while being ridden in an
ordinary snaffle bit and not needing any other artificial aids.
The rider should be able to confidently and cheerfully ask their mount to approach unusual objects
in a prescribed course without stress. As a combination, they should proceed through the course
calmly and confidently and moving forward.
JACKPOT BARREL TO MUSIC - FUNDRAISER
SATURDAY AFTERNOON EVENT 32
Equipment: 3 X 200L Barrels, Start & Finish Flags.
Riders may supply their own music or some will be provided for them.
Set Up:
Barrels must be at least five metres from a fence. The distance between each drum is 30 metres
and the start/finish line is 15 metres from the first two drums. The starting and finishing line and
the position of the drums must be marked permanently for the competition.
Rules:
Contestants may go to either right or left barrel first, but must make two left hand and one right hand
turns; or two right hand and one left hand turn. TRACKS MUST BE CROSSED AFTER EACH DRUM.
The start will be a standing start from a six meter line, with time taken as horse's nose crosses start
finish line.
Penalties:
Each Barrel knocked over .............................................................. Five (5) second penalty
Failing to cross tracks after each drum .......................................... Elimination
ENTRY – Will be $5 per run & will be taken ON THE DAY.

the lead in these events during the day. Members are not able to enter leadline and another section as
well.
