The mould has channels that run through the body for insertion of a detonator or detonating cord. Application Used in blasting operations with relatively insensitive bulk explosives. The effect wears out after 30 to 40 minutes. Cloud harvesting flares Hygroscopic chemicals are dispersed in the clouds to increase the precipitation. ___________________________________________________________ 20 Premier’s products – defence applications Solid propellants Description Typical solid propellant is a mixture of ammonium perchlorate powder (an oxidizer) and aluminium powder (a fuel), held together in a base of HTPB (rubber-like fuel). The mixture is first formed as a slurry, then cast into required shape and finally cured into a rubbery solid. It is used to initiate the explosive train for specific applications. Pyro cartridge functions on receiving the electrical energy, produces flame with hot gases and solid particles to ignite the contents of the igniter for propellant combustion. The propulsive force of a solid rocket motor is derived from the controlled combustion of the solid propellant fuel at high temperatures and pressures. The function of the igniter is to ensure reliable and sustainable ignition of the main motor with predictable delay period. ___________________________________________________________ 29 Premier’s products – defence applications Squibs A Squib is an initiator of explosive train It is a miniature explosive device, used for generating mechanical force, flash or pyrotechnic effects Premier manufactures a wide variety of squibs like Squib No.2, Simulated squib, Instantaneous squib and delay squib Premier also makes tailor-made squibs to meet specific requirements ___________________________________________________________ 30 Premier’s products – defence applications Smoke markers/ Smoke generators It produces coloured smoke when in contact with sea water or initiated electrically These are used in Navy for identifying the areas of recovery Explosive Bolt Explosive bolts are meant for opening the front and rear covers of the transport and launch vehicles or disconnecting two stages/parts. They consist of steel bolt with a notch for shearing. Hence handling of these detonators is highly risky. The new detonator invented by Premier does not contain those lead salts, making the detonators safer to handle.
