Catholic School Summer Band
The Paul Effman Music Service runs band programs at several
Catholic Elementary Schools and is offering a Summer Band
program for boys and girls entering grades 4-8. One year of
band experience is recommended. The program will focus on
a combination of small group instruction and full ensemble
rehearsals. A wide variety of music will be performed.
Five week session, Tuesdays and Thursdays,
3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., beginning July 14.

Service Camp
{ week one }
Spend a week sharing your time and talents by volunteering at
a variety of agencies throughout Western New York. Each day
we will volunteer at a different service site and learn about each
organization. Some possible service sites include: Canine Helpers for the Handicapped, Rainbow K School, American Cancer
Society, Hope Lodge, and Weinberg Campus. Maximum enrollment is 13 girls. Camp is open to girls entering grades 6-8.

Introduction to Ukelele
Have you always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument? The ukulele is fun and easy to learn! Over the course of
this camp you will learn everything from string names to tablature to strumming as well as the history and culture of Hawaiian
music. No experience necessary. We will provide the ukuleles
which will be available for purchase after the camp.

Science Camp
Interested in all kinds of science? This camp will explore different science concepts within the lab in a fun and exciting way.
Activities to include making soap (and the science behind it),
edible chemistry experiments, and other sustainable projects to learn
about recycling and reusing every day materials.

Mixed Media Art Camp
Do you love creating art? This camp will teach you about a variety
of mediums and techniques to allow you to create several finished
works. You will glaze ceramic pieces, create three dimensional wire
sculptures, paint a mini tapestry and more! All levels of experience
welcome.
Printmaking
An introduction to the art of printmaking. You will explore a variety
of printmaking methods and materials including mono prints, reduction and wood blocks prints as well as silk screening. Create your
own beautiful works of art. No experience necessary.

Introduction to Digital Photography
Join us as we head out for a week of doing new and different things at
some of Western New York’s most popular and unique destinations.
Maximum enrollment is 13 girls.
In this week-long workshop we will explore what it means to make
a portrait - of the self and others. We will begin with a quick survey
of portraiture (in various media). Camera and lighting techniques
will be reviewed before you begin to make your own portraits. The
class will culminate with each student producing four portraits of
themselves – traditional and/or abstract – and make them into an
accordion book.

Leadership Camp
{ week two }
This program encourages young women to explore and practice skills
in the 5 B’s of Leadership: Becoming a young adult leader, Belonging
to a community called school, Believing in God and one’s own self,
Building relationships and Bettering our world. If you would like to
be considered for admission to this program please attach a letter of
interest and/or a recommendation from a teacher or principal with
the application. Each participant is eligible for a $250 tuition credit
to Sacred Heart Academy upon registration at Sacred Heart for the
2016-17 school year.

CSI at SHA
Learn the basics of forensics technology and apply these not only
to the crime scene but also to environmental problems. Classroom
experimentation combined with fieldwork will enable you to better
understand the use of these scientific principles in the mysteries of
everyday life.

Cooking Camp
{ week three }
Have you always wanted to learn how to cook and make meals for
your family? Learn how with chef Jill Forster of Nickle City Cheese
& Mercantile. This unique, hands-on learning experience will take
place at Artisan Kitchens & Baths (on Amherst Street in Buffalo,
transportation provided to and from Sacred Heart), with state-ofthe-art equipment and facilities. You will learn the basics of cooking
and spend one day creating desserts. Space is limited!

Fashion Design and Sketching
Introduction to Lacrosse
Join us for a week of fun learning how to design a line of clothes and
how to sketch designs using colored pencils and markers. We will
explore the fashion markets of New York, Paris and Tokyo. Using
actual fabric swatches, complete a fashion design project showing the
latest trends and colors. At the end of the week you will be amazed at
your success as we display the fashion designs. Class size is limited.
No experience necessary!
This camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game, emphasizing basic skills, techniques, and concepts. You will learn and
practice basic to intermediate stick skills including cradling,
passing, catching, and shooting drills. In addition, you will learn
offensive and defensive techniques and engage in daily scrimmages. Equipment needed: mouth guard, lacrosse goggles and
stick (SHA has a limited amount of sticks for those who don’t own
one).Team play will be highlighted as well as individual play.

Catholic High School Entrance
Examination Prep Course
Prepare yourself for the entrance exam in November. Learn strategies for test taking along with review in each section. Girls will take
a practice exam on the final day. (This course will also be offered
October 17-November 7.)

Introduction to Filmmaking
Have fun in this hands-on engaging camp. Learn the art of pixilation animation which uses live actors and other objects to act as
stop-motion characters that can do ANYTHING and go ANYWHERE your imagination goes. You will work together as a group
to produce a short animated film that will be full of fantasy and fun.
The process will include instruction in stop-motion animation,
script writing, and video and sound production.

Music Camp - The Beat Goes On!
Get ready to groove…and move! This camp will explore the ‘rhythm of
music’ through performance with various hand-held drums, percussion, and keyboard instruments. We will also incorporate singing, calls
& responses, lyrics, rhythmic patterns and some movement/dancing
along with the drumming to create and perform pieces that are fun for
you and the audience! Instruments will be provided, but feel free to
bring your favorite drum! No previous experience necessary

Would you like to pick up a new hobby and learn how to make
your own jewelry? This camp will teach you all the fundamentals
of jewelry making including how to use chain, wire, different
types of knotting cords and leather. You will make several trendy
pieces throughout the week that will give you the skills you need
to become designers and create your very own jewelry!

Explore the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and
math. Each day will revolve around one of these topics and

Stained Glass Fusion
Have fun making art by fusing glass using glass kilns. Make jewelry, frit cast ornaments, glass paintings, and so much more! This
class for beginners is totally hands on and very creative. You will

Musical Theatre
GRADE FALL 2015
>> Girls staying for both morning and afternoon camps should
bring a lunch and drink. Snacks are included each day.
Spend a week learning about live theatre and how to become a part
of it. Learn many different aspects of theatre, including movement,
dance, voice and acting, as well as other technical and creative components such as costumes, set design, and make-up. Each day you
will participate in a series of activities which will prepare you for a
performance piece to be presented on the final day of the program.

This camp is designed to meet the needs of both beginning and
intermediate players. As a beginning player, you will learn the
basics of volleyball including passing, setting, hitting and serving,
and an introduction to team play. If you have experience you will
further develop your team skills with a volleyball player who has
already mastered the basics. In addition, we will teach offensive and
defensive tactics through drills and scrimmages.
