Consolidated Music
Celebrates 40 Years
In 1974, Joe Ornelas started the store Consolidated Music, which offers
guitar lessons, rentals, and product for sale. The shop was located next to
Starbucks and Cooper’s for 30 years until 2005 when it was located on
Northwest Highway. Six years ago, Consolidated Music found its current home
at the Barrington Commons. The shop has 14 instructors who teach mostly
private classes and on occasion group classes. A Rockstar 101 program is
offered where students learn how to play in groups before going off on their

own to form new bands. The program is 10, 2-hour sessions for five weeks,
culminating in a concert. Jeff Lindahl, who has been playing guitar since he was
14, is the current owner and took over the shop in 1996. Consolidated Music
celebrated its 40th anniversary on Tuesday, March 11. For more information,

Women’s Club of Inverness News
Singing in the Rain- Swaying With Style
Support from Women’s Club of Inverness (WCI) patrons, advertisers,
vendors, and guests, helped WCI raise $25,800 at its annual spring fashion show
fundraiser “Singing in the Rain- Swaying with Style” on Saturday, April 12 at The
Stonegate Conference & Banquet Centre. This total, combined with the fall
fundraiser “Girls Night Out,” helped WCI donate funds to 29 nonprofit agencies
and 17 undergraduate scholarships for a total of $52,700. ZZAZZ Productions
of Oak Brook produced the fashion show, which was dedicated to Raisa Bratkiv,
a long time WCI member and former president. Designer Shertnett Swaby
showcased her clothing line, even joining one model for a trip down the catwalk.
Swaby started in Toronto, Canada where she was a top four finalist on “Project
Runway.” She currently has a store in Chicago. For more information, visit www.

WCI Scholarship Recipients
WCI was able to fund 17 undergraduate
scholarships for area high school and college
students, including adults returning to college,
living in the area served by high school districts
#220 and #211. Before the scholarships were
awarded, a short bio of each student was read
citing their accomplishments, community service, academic achievement, leadership skills,
and other extra-curricular activities.

Bike Barrington is returning Sunday, August 17 and will include a 1-mile kids’ ride through Citizens Park, an obstacle
course, helmet fittings, games, and giveaways. The event

Bikers Against Bullies
Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity (PHD) is a counseling
center for pregnancy help and education. Located in Inverness, PHD serves
women in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago. For more information

PHD’s fourth annual “Bikers Against
Bullies” motorcycle ride will be held on
Sunday, September 7 beginning at 8 a.m.
Funds raised will support the agency’s
Motivate Prevention Department, which
offers programs to adolescents and parents
on issues such as healthy communication,
relationships, and bullying. Riders will start at
the Broken Oar Marina-Bar & Grill and ride
for almost 60 miles. Registration is $20 per
person. Broken Oar is located at 614 Rawson
Bridge Road in Port Barrington.
Spirit of Life Gala
Nearly 200 guests attended the "Spirit of Life
Gala" on Saturday, April 26 at Wynstone Golf Club to
benefit PHD’s services and programs. Attendees also
had the opportunity to win $1,500 by participating in
a cash raffle. The event honored James Brenner, a
PHD board member. Funds raised will go to support
women who are pregnant or parenting a child under
three, those who are experiencing grief or loss from

On Saturday, May 17, The Community Church of Barrington
hosted its first pet blessing where residents and church members could bring their pets to be blessed by Reverend Zina
Jacque. The event, started by a member of the church, had 20
dogs, one cat, and one rabbit get blessed. The church is planning
on making this an annual event with the next blessing happening
