Shibori is the ancient Japanese craft of binding, folding and stitching fabric before dying to create a unique pattern. Using the Tenugi (Japanese hand towel) tutor Catherine Quinn will introduce you to Shibori techniques and to the indigo dyeing process. You will be shown how to make an indigo vat and then how to use the dye bath correctly. Once your items have been dipped you will cut away the stitching to reveal your unique indigo shibori tenugi. Following a brief outline of the history of papermaking and the relevance of papermaking in the Antrim area, the workshop will guide you through the simple processes involved in the Craft using traditional hand equipment. This workshop is a must for all card makers, decoupage enthusiasts or for anyone interested in handmade paper. Cost £50.
