On Monday, June 27,

will eliminate dry wood
termites. This fumigation involves 9 buildings, 5 building owners,
37 business owners, and

Wolf Branch Road Closes through August 1, 2016
The Lake County Public
Works Department is announcing that Wolf Branch
Road between Heather
Street and Britt Road/Niles
Road will be closed from
Monday, June 13 through

closure is part of the Wolf
Branch Sink Drainage Improvement Project, which
is designed to capture and
provide water quality treatment of stormwater runoff
in the area. The project lies
within the Wekiva Springs
Protection Area and is estimated to provide pollutant
load reductions. The contracted project is funded by
the Stormwater Municipal
Service Taxing Unit
(MSTU) Fund and a Lake
County Water Authority
Stormwater Grant Program
agreement. Detour signs will
be posted to alert the public
to these changes, and drivers will be detoured to U.S.

Motorists are asked to allow
for extra travel time, and to
exercise caution while in
the area due to the new traffic pattern. For more information regarding the road
work, contact the Lake
County Public Works Department at 352-253-6007.

Mount Dora Police Department, Mount Dora’s Mrs. Claus
Bid Farewell to Santa Claus, Eugene Kessinger
It is with heavy hearts that we
bid farewell to Norman Eugene
Kessinger, who passed away on
June 13. Eugene was an integral
part of the Mount Dora Police
Department (MDPD) family
and the holiday tradition to
spread Christmas cheer
throughout the community. Eugene served as our Santa Claus
alongside Mrs. Claus, Administrative Assistant Debbie Fecht,
for the past five years. His kindness and love of children were
endless. He truly brought
MDPD’s holiday season traditions to life with his jovial persona and warm embraces.
Each year Eugene was part of the
group that visits a local family
who either has a child with disabilities or is struggling to provide
a Christmas to their kids, or both.
Santa (Eugene) was always the
epitome of Christmas cheer as
families are showered with gifts,
food, and love; taking each child
gently on his lap portraying the
true spirit of the season – that of
a giving and caring heart.
Eugene began working with
MDPD as Santa Claus in 2010
on the Santa Tour. An event that
started out as a one-night, fourhour tour through Mount Dora
with Santa (Eugene) and Mrs.
Claus (Debbie Fecht) on their
sleigh, spreading holiday cheer.
The event grew rapidly and by
2015, MDPD devoted three
nights, 8 police vehicles, 12 golf
carts, 2 police motorcycles, a fire
truck and a police vehicle pulling
Santa’s sleigh while Santa and
Mrs. Claus threw candy and gave
out presents, blasting Christmas
carols, and visited most all of
Mount Dora neighborhoods.
Please keep checking the MDPD
Facebook page
(www.Facebook.com/
MountDoraPoliceDepartment) for
updates as the holiday season approaches and plan to join us as we
commemorate our lost Santa
Claus.
This year and furthermore, the
Santa Tour will be re-named the
Euguene Kessinger Santa Tour
honoring the memory our Santa
Claus. The Eugene Kessinger
Santa Tour will take place December 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2016.
Mount Dora Veterans Come Together on Flag Day
At 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June
14, a patriotic ceremony to celebrate Flag Day was held at the
War Memorial (corner of 5th
Ave. and Baker St. - across
Baker from City Hall). The
event drew in many of the areas
veterans to commemorate the
day. It was 66 years ago; in
June 1950 that President Truman ordered US air and naval
forces to South Korea. A Korean veteran laid a wreath at the
base of the monument while
participants honored a moment
of silence for all those who
fought for our Country. “I wish
to thank Rozann Abato for
taking the time to put together
the Flag Day ceremony at the
Mount Dora War Memorial,”
says Mayor Nick Girone, City
of Mount Dora. “Our Flag is
the one true symbol that unites
a whole country. Freedom is
precious. You only have to go
to another country to see why.
Freedom comes with a high
price and at every fight for freedom; the American Flag flies
proudly. God Bless America, the
Veterans who fought, and our
troops who continue the fight for
Freedom around the world.”
