traditional vessels and directly inspired by leading tour
operator Thomas Cook.
Launched on the 26th June, 1877 she is believed to be the
oldest working passenger vessel in the world.

Wheelchair access and Terms & Conditions –
There will be no verbal variation of these terms
1. Gangways are designed to fit standard wheelchairs
(there is one wheelchair available for use in each Pier
House at Pooley Bridge and Glenridding please ask
a member of staff).
2. Motorised chairs and mobility scooters are not
permitted on the Piers or Vessels for Health &
Safety reasons.
3. Due to the varying height of the lake we regret
that wheelchair access is not always possible.
4. We have five vessels sailing on Ullswater with varying
levels of access. Due to the nature of our
business we cannot guarantee that a particular
vessel will be available, we advise you to contact us
if you have special requirements in advance to avoid
disappointment.
5. There is no access available on our smallest vessel
Lady Dorothy for those who require a wheelchair.
6. There is allocated free parking for Blue Badge Holders
at Glenridding Pier House. We regret that due to the
location of Pooley Bridge Pier House, parking outside
the building is not permitted however there is a drop off
and collection point outside the door.
7. We offer free travel for essential companions.
Terms & Conditions
1. Please confirm your group numbers,
seven days prior to visit.
2. Adult supervision for minors shall be provided by the
tour operator/group organiser.
3. Smoking is not allowed onboard the boat or on
the piers.
4. Passengers may only board and disembark via
the gangway.
5. The company may cancel or alter sailings in the event
of emergency, breakdown, strike, or bad weather, or for
any other reason outside its control, without being liable
for any loss or damage.
6. No alcohol may be taken onboard the vessel.
7. The tour operator/group organiser will be responsible
for any loss or damage to the vessel
or the company by any member of the party.
8. Tour Operators that wish to be invoiced after travel
must complete a credit application prior to first visit.

About us
The Lake runs a serpentine
course through expansive vistas
of Lakeland’s greatest mountains.
An eight mile adventure shaped like
the letter ‘Z’ as it winds through this
spectacular valley, home to some of
our rarer species such as the Red
Squirrel. Ullswater was formed by
three different glaciers and this is why
it is unique in the Lake District being
the only lake with three different
reaches and two distinct dog-legs.

Pooley Bridge
The market town of Pooley Bridge is a pretty
Lakeland village built around a 16th century
stone bridge that crosses the river Eamont.
The name Eamont is old English and reflects
the river’s origins as the water that flows from
the mountains.
Kailpot Crag (Devil’s Kail-pot)
An old tale based on a outcrop of rock, taking its name from a pothole at
the base, thought to have been created by the erosion in a depression. Folk
believed fairies used to play there at night and they would throw money into
the Crag which disappeared. The last appearance of fairies in Cumbria is said
to have been in 1850. Jack Wilson saw them pack up and leave for good one
moonlit night, at Martindale, above the shores of Ullswater.

Our heritage past gives visitors a very unique
experience to sail through this spectacular
valley that has been part of many a true tale.
Its beauty was the inspiration for one of the
best loved poems ever written ‘I wandered
lonely as a cloud’ by William Wordsworth.
These delicate wild flowers can still be seen on
the lakeshore in the spring. We work closely
with many conservation bodies to ensure the
future of the valley by raising awareness and
funding towards access and conservation
projects. To date over £40,000 has been raised
and we hold GTBS Gold and Green at Heart
Gold Environmental Accreditations. In 2012, we
were highly commended in the Enjoy England
Sustainable Tourism Category.

The market town of Pooley Bridge is a pretty
Lakeland village built around a 16th century
stone bridge that crosses the river Eamont.
The name Eamont is old English and reflects
the river’s origins as the water that flows from
the mountains.
Kailpot Crag (Devil’s Kail-pot)
An old tale based on a outcrop of rock, taking its name from a pothole at
the base, thought to have been created by the erosion in a depression. Folk
believed fairies used to play there at night and they would throw money into
the Crag which disappeared. The last appearance of fairies in Cumbria is said
to have been in 1850. Jack Wilson saw them pack up and leave for good one
moonlit night, at Martindale, above the shores of Ullswater.

The Fleet
We have five classic vessels in regular service, from the beautifully preserved
heritage M.Y Lady of the Lake and M.Y Raven to the recently restored M.V Western Belle.
The ‘Steamers’ are painted in the same colour as Coronia, a splendid ocean liner

traditional vessels and directly inspired by leading tour
operator Thomas Cook.

(there is one wheelchair available for use in each Pier
House at Pooley Bridge and Glenridding please ask
