high-performance remote-controlled cars manufacturer
Kyosho Corp. for competition at the highest level. As such,
the R8 LMS RC is capable of reaching a top speeds of
up to 70 km/h, straight out of the box. The sophisticated
construction, high-quality features and fine finish all set
new standards. The R8 LMS RC features a dynamic drive
system and innovative features that are currently unmatched.
As a “ready to run” set, the Audi R8 LMS RC is absolutely
a one of a kind. To realize the full performance potential of
this competition-grade model, the entire assembly and
suspension tuning will be carried out by the Kyosho team
drivers in a limited edition of 100 vehicles.

The Audi A3 is one of the most popular vehicles around. Not surprising, considering its fusion
of puristic design and innovative functionality. It combines high-tech engineering with high
quality workmanship. And the same standards apply to the manufacture of the miniatures.
The Audi A3 is made at Herpa in Bavaria alongside other models.
Unique:
the individual components of every
1:87 model are fitted together by
the craftsman without the use of glue.
This means hobby tuners can work on
their Audi even when it’s on a miniature
scale.

The first step in the creation of a
miniature Audi is to rescale the
original design drawings.
Enormous attention is paid to a
model’s faithful reproduction of
the design features and general
aesthetic of a “big” Audi.
Using the CAD data, copper is cut into
a shape that serves as a template for the
miniature. Some of the proportions can
get lost through miniaturisation, so these
are adapted to the new scale. This is the
most time-consuming, but also the most
crucial part of the manufacturing process.
An electrical discharge machine uses
15,000 volts to burn this copper form into
a steel form – from this, plus many hours
of labour, the injection mould is created.

The steel moulds are polished by hand for up
to an entire week to make sure the body of the
model shines as beautifully as the original.

Hot, melted plastic is injected under high pressure into the steel
mould before being pressed into shape. This is why every differently
coloured part has to be manufactured separately: all 26 individual
parts that make up the miniature model are made using a different
mould.

During the manufacturing process,

We designed and built our own machine for
connecting a miniature’s axles with its wheels
and tyres. Every second a wheelset is created,
which is then mounted by hand on to the body
of the model.

The very first Audi – the vehicle that gave
new impetus to automotive engineering as
August Horch introduced it in 1910 under
a different name. The Latin translation of
“Horch” gave rise to the name “Audi”. A
vehicle of this type, built in 1911, remains
the oldest surviving Audi and is on show at
the National Technical Museum in Prague.

quattro GmbH was brought into being in 1983 as a full subsidiary
of AUDI AG. Its first job was to market accessories, since 1995 it
has individualised cars, and since 1996 quattro GmbH has stood
for pure performance and top-class technology (RS models, R8).
Early 2011 saw quattro adding customer racing to its portfolio.
