CHESAPEAKE DOCK DOGS NEWSLETTER
CHESAPEAKE DOCK DOGS NEWSLETTER Volume 1, Issue 1 September 2013 WE ROCK THE DOCK! A Note from our President...Dave Ruch Well, this is the first in what I hope is many newsletters to keep the membership informed and have people get to know one another a little better. I hope to expand the newsletter to include a dog and handler team next issue. We, as a club, had a very successful year. We headlined our second World of Pets Expo in January. We impressed the promoter so much that she has asked us to headline two events in 2014; the World of Pets Expo in Timonium, MD, January 24-26 and in Hampton, VA, February 1516, 2014. In May, we had our last event at Lilypons. But with that loss came new beginnings. Everything fell into place and we found Detour Winery as our new home by August. We are looking forward to our first members -only event on October 26, 2013. We are making this inaugural event as special as we can and we can’t wait to see you on the dock again. See more on page 2 about the event and what we have been doing this summer. On December 14th, we will have our annual awards banquet at Brewer’s Alley in Frederick, MD. I always look forward to seeing everyone without their dogs, the www.chesapeakedockdogs.com great food and drink, and fun gift exchange. The board and I have been working hard to make 2014 a banner year for Chesapeake. We hope you will join us for all the fun! —Dave About Detour Winery Discover—Reflect—Savor — Come and discover our unique blends of vinifera, American and French hybrid wines, fruit and dessert wines, ice wines and champagnes. It all started with the dedication that all of you have had to making our events as fun as possible. Based on this, Detour contacted Dave last year about having a possible event, but it wasn’t quite right yet. And then it all came together over the summer 2013. We starting to have a conversation with them in June about how the space could work and building a permanent dock. We came to an agreement by August. After getting the water level up (a new pump was purchased) and getting the time off to build, Dave with his vast construction experience started the dock on Friday, September 20. We can’t wait to show it off to every one for our inaugural members-only event on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Half of the profits of the Harvest Festival Fun Jump benefit the B.A.A.R.K. Foundation! HOW LUCKY ARE YOU?? October 26, 2013 To cap off our inaugural event at Detour, we have a day full of fun, benefits and rare opportunities. Let’s start with the fun! Besides having fun on the dock with waves at 9am, 11am, 2pm, and finals at 4pm, Detour will be having a Harvest Festival at 12 noon with live music and wine tasting (outside adult beverages not permitted). If you wish to taste, the admission is only $10, that’s half off. When you sign in at the registration tent, you and your party will receive a special wristband to receive the discount for the wine tasting. Also, to have you get familiar with our new home, please take an adventure and explore the winery with a special scavenger hunt. Once you’re finished, turn in your completed card to the registration table and then there will be a drawing for a special gift basket. Drop Off and Parking If you arrive by 10 am, you should be able to drive through the main entrance and down close to the pond to drop off your things. You then need to drive back up and turn left onto Forest and Stream Club Road and then turn left again into a huge parking lot. Walk across the short bridge and to the back side of the pond where Dogtown will be. If you arrive after 10am, drive to the second entrance for the winery and park in the big parking lot. If you need help moving your items over, please text or call 410-303-7049 and we will have a volunteer to help. Of course, you can’t have an event on October 26 and not have a costume contest! So, dress your dog, your tent and yourself in your best costume and you could win a prize! The registration form is available. You can now pre-register for only $10 a wave ($15 on-site) and register two teams with the same dog in the same wave. We are throwing caution to the wind and we are doing away with titles for the day. Your dog will qualify for finals based on their jump. You can also reserve a commemorative long- sleeved T-shirt for only $20 with your pre-registration. Quantities limited. We will also have a one-time only discount of $5 off your 2014 membership dues. You can either pay when you preregister or at the event. This is only available to members who attend. Any questions: Feel free to e-mail the board at [email protected] Dave Ruch, Frank Moraff, Tamra Spink, Cindy Smith, Mandy Eiche, Chris Bevillard and Heather Sozio See you on the dock!! Please enjoy Detour’s wine but, no outside adult beverages are permitted. STAY LATE! The bonfire is the perfect back drop for our barbecue! The bonfire will be lit at approximately 6pm!
