MESSAGE FROM THE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR WWFM is immensely grateful for the contributions of our individual members, foundations, and family funds. Thanks to your commitment to the longevity and stability of The Classical Network, we are pleased to report that we had an outstanding year! WWFM was the recipient of the 2014 ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/ Virgil Thompson Award in broadcasting. “This award confirms what many of our donors already knew – The Classical Network and its hosts are among the best,” says WWFM General Manager Peter Fretwell. “This award goes not only to our staff, but to all our supporters who have kept The Classical Network vibrant for more than three decades.” WWFM continues to forge innovative partnerships with the finest schools, organizations and ensembles to enhance the station’s musical offerings. The Manhattan School of Music, Gotham Early Music Society, and New York’s Subculture are a few of the presenting and performing groups broadcast this past year on The Classical Network’s Noontime Concert and Celebrating Our Musical Future Series. Recently added to this esteemed list is The Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, CO. We have been able to introduce the popular show Pipedreams, and have launched Well-Tempered Baroque, our latest WWFM production with a local host. A slow-recovering economy brought with it fiscal challenges, but those challenges were met by WWFM staff and management in a manner that has preserved the quality programming that has made the station a favorite for more than 30 years. We are thankful for the support of listeners that has made it possible for WWFM to not only survive, but to thrive. During this past year, programming excellence made it possible for The Classical Network to receive national recognition, most notably from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation. In 2014 ASCAP presented David Osenberg, WWFM music director and host of the program Cadenza, with the Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Radio Broadcast Award. In addition, ASCAP extended a special recognition to WWFM The Classical Network for its “outstanding offerings.” FOUNDATIONS, TRUSTS AND GRANTS EXPENSES 67,900.00 53,000.00 22,000.00 Salaries and benefits Contractors and other purchased services 107,000.00 Permits and licenses 747,009.00 180,000.00 Engineering and Equipment UGliGes (electrical, phone, Internet) Fundraising and office Education, learning, and music appreciation continue to be key parts of WWFM’s mission. All of the station hosts provide detailed context, anecdotes and information about the works they present. Cadenza introduces musicians and composers – from well-known established stars to up-and-coming prodigies. Our cultural affairs program, A Tempo, keeps listeners up-to-date and informed on trends and news in the world of the performing arts. Mercer County Community College is proud to host WWFM and support a commitment to excellence that listeners of The Classical Network have come to expect. But none of this would be possible without the generous support of the community and the donors who have made quality music programming a priority. For that, we are very thankful. I commend the dedicated staff members of WWFM for their commitment to New Jersey’s only 24-hour classical music station, and I truly believe that the best is yet come. With your continued support, WWFM will continue to serve classical music lovers with quality programming of the world’s greatest music.
