Passive CMS shelf and cassette family
As service providers and multi-system operators (MSOs) look to expand and grow
legacy networks, they are relying more heavily on optical multiplexing technology (WDM)
to increase capacity of their existing fiber plant. The CMS-0104 passive shelf supports a
custom set of OADM modules, providing unprecedented density and flexibility in a
1RU configuration.
The passive optical cassettes use industry-standard optical elements and connectors
in a compact physical package. The solution is NEBS qualified and supports extended
termperature operations suitable to outside plant environments.

The Optelian CWDM and DWDM OADM cassettes deliver multiple
dedicated customer services over a common fiber network, with support
for legacy services on the same fiber, and a 2% tap monitor. The compact
cassettes install easily in the passive CMS-0104 shelf, and are available in
four variants.

The CMS-0104 is a 1RU passive shelf that can be wall-mounted or installed
in standard 19-inch or 23-inch telecom racks. Once installed, the solution is
complete; it requires no power or software.

Reclaiming Fiber Capacity
• Optical filters (Mux and Demux) are added at each end of the fiber
• Transponders are inserted between switching and transponding equipment and the optical filter to convert ‘gray’ 1310 interfaces to WDM wavelengths
• Traffic previously carried by multiple fibers is consolidated onto a single fiber
• Previously consumed fiber is now available for future use

cassettes, eight half-slot OADM cassettes, or a combination of single-slot and half-slot OADM cassettes.
