BIOPHARE

Museum
The Biophare is a museum dedicated to the Lac-Saint- Pierre biosphere reserve.
Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site, the territory includes among
other things the Sorel Islands, which inspired a well-known Québécois novel: Le
Survenant. The museum presents a permanent exhibition entitled “L’observatoire
du Lac Saint-Pierre”. The Biophare also presents a new permanent exhibition
entitled “L’appel du large” that plunges visitors into the heart of World War II.
From June to December, visitors can also visit the exhibit “L’esprit des objets” (the
souls of objects), an exhibi¬tion dedicated to reflecting on everyday aboriginal
items and how they have evolved to become museum pieces.

Explore a magnificent wooded area on the shores of the St. Lawrence River and
discover nearly 20 km of hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails.
Activities for all seasons such as skating, sliding, hebertism, pedal-boat, canoe,
rabaska canoe, swimming, a heritage trail and a GPS walking tour will enhance
your stay. This 290-hectare expanse straddling the cities of Contrecoeur and
Sorel-Tracy shelters a century-old pine forest and abundant natural resources.
Open to all, Colonie des Grèves is a magnificent estate with a privileged
access to the St. Lawrence River. In addition to its summer camp programs for
children aged 6 to 13 and camps for the entire family, Colonie des Grèves
offers accommodations in cabins (7 or 13 people), inns (33 or 44 places) or
dormitories (40 places), for families or groups of up to 175 people.

You want to learn about the electric environment we live in? You want to
understand more about science and electricity? You like to make interesting
and astonishing discoveries? Our guided visits allow you to observe electricity
in nature and in the human body, to broaden your knowledge about lightning
and northern lights and to discover the secrets of electric eels. You will also be
able to follow the movements of electrons, explore physical laws and familiarize
yourself with electric and magnetic fields while accompanied by informed
guides. A cartoon and other video capsules will inform you about subjects as
varied as renewable energies, the characteristics of hydroelectric stations and
the history of electricity in Quebec. School visits are available for kids from
elementary school through University.

Ferme Guyon is an 11 hectare horticultural center filled with greenhouses,

The presentation of more than 340 years (since 1666) of military history,
helping visitors discover forts built from 1666 to 1775, garrisons and the
Saint-Jean Royal Military College. A guided tour will help you discover original

the tour includes a historical tour of the patrimonial and contemporary military

Twelve months a year, the CIMBAD baroque puppet interpretive center offers
very playful shows with touches of humor and fantasy mixed in. Group
manipulation of large puppets by both kids and adults promotes working
in teams and the development of creativity, critical thinking, self-esteem and
communication. The show uses giant puppets, actors, moving structures, unique
multidisciplinary techniques, accompanied by original music to dazzle all
spectators. It takes place outdoors in theatre-in-the-round with 535 seats and a
roof to guarantee performances in case of rain. The seats have heated straps
and they rotate to follow the action wherever it takes place.
