Lamborghini Club America’s MIDWEST LAMBOS A NEWSLETTER FOR LAMBORGHINI OWNERS & ENTHUSIASTS Lamborghini Chicago Unveils New Showroom Only an extravagant, over-the-top party would be sufficient for the Lamborghini Chicago Showroom Grand Opening – and that’s exactly what they got. Over 450 guests enjoyed the Official Grand Opening of the new Showroom on April 6, 2007, and they would be sure to mention it was a night to remember. To help commemorate the event, Italian foods from local restaurants, sounds from a DJ, a luxury fashion show, and specialty cocktails were present throughout the night. And to help make it all seem even more worthwhile, all of the proceeds went directly to the Children’s Memorial Hospital Foundation and its epilepsy center. Lamborghini Chicago, one of the Fox Valley Motor Cars brands, opened it’s new, 20,000 square foot facility, much to the delight of Midwest Lamborghini owners and enthusiasts. The facility itself was designed by architect Paul Grimes of Michelson and Grimes, while Kelcan Builders of Westmont made it a reality. The facility is now complete with slate floors, tiles, and textured finishes to really emphasize its luxury. The new facility is a big addition for Fox Valley Motor Cars, who has had the Lamborghini brand since 1995. The facility comfortably fits over 40 cars between the two floors of the showroom. In the service area, there is also ample space – enough for 6-8 vehicles. Needless to say, there is plenty to see when you visit Lamborghini Chicago. The evening was kicked off with an upbeat, fun cocktail reception with drinks and appetizers. Somerset’s Rotunda, an exclusive shopping center, was filled with the music supplied by the Blackman & Arnold Jazz Quartet. Lamborghini owners, enthusiasts, and other invited guests mingled among one another while sipping on champagne and enjoying the excitement of the evening. As a special treat, too, the Gallardo Superleggera was brought in from testing in Arizona specifically for this event. (continued on page 4) Martinis & Lamborghinis, a Children’s Benefit A new fundraising, for-charity event sponsored by Lamborghini Troy and other notable sponsors for Variety, The Children’s Charity was held on April 28, 2007 in Troy, Michigan. With the glamorous backdrop of The Somerset Collection, the event featured several Lamborghinis to highlight the evening full of fun, food, music, dancing, and, of course, martinis. A total of ten Lamborghinis were present for the event, creating quite a sight in the heart of Troy. Inside this issue: to be a start-of-the-season event for several Michigan Lamborghini owners – everyone was able to see each other after the lull of the winter months in Michigan. Ron Springer, a fellow Lamborghini owner from Michigan, brought his black Gallardo with a new QuickSilver after-market exhaust system. Needless to say, the car made quite an impression on eventgoers and was the cause for several lengthy discussions on Lamborghini performance numbers. Also making an appearance was the orange Gallardo Supperleggera, a European vehicle not licensed in the United States. The stop in Troy was just one of many stops it will make throughout the country this season. From there, the evening progressed with a silent auction of several valuable pieces of art, raffle prizes, Events for 2007 22 LCA Contact Info 23 2007 Events: • June: -Italian Cars at Pocono -Lamborghini Troy Brake-Fast Club • July: -Italian Car Festival -Vintage Grand Prix of Mid Ohio featuring Italian Cars -Lamborghini Troy Driving School • August: -Lamborghini National Meet -Wheels of Italy • September: -Italian Gathering -Running of Our Bulls (continued on page 6) Volume 3, Issue 2 - Spring 2007 SPRING 2007 MIDWEST LAMBOS 1 Lamborghini Troy Authorized Dealer Automobili Lamborghini A member of the Suburban Collection Lamborghini Troy 1755-D Maplelawn Drive Troy, MI 48084 Located in the Troy Motor Mall Telephone: 866-666-5766 www.lamborghinitroy.com Call or visit our website for a complete inventory and the availability of Spyders & LP640s! 2 MIDWEST LAMBOS SPRING 2007 I would like to extend a great big thank-you to everyone for the great start to the year! Our first Brake-Fast club went perfectly and served as a perfect lead-in to our Gallardo Road Show. We had 48 test drives throughout the Gallardo Road Show – I hope you had the chance to get in one of them! The Martinis & Lamborghinis Charity event had an excellent turnout and the weather held out, with the exception of about 15 minutes of rain. Thank you to everyone that participated! If you missed the all new Superleggera when it was here for the Gallardo Road Show, you should get a chance to see it again at our Lamborghini Troy Track Day - it really is something to see! Among other fine details, the carbon fiber work on the car is absolutely beautiful. Going beyond the cosmetics of this new Gallardo, Lamborghini was able to remove over 150 pounds! Based on the feedback from the Superleggera testing in Arizona, the enhancements have really added driving character to the vehicle in addition to the various body modifications. If you have already had the opportunity to see it, then you’ll be happy to hear that we expect to have our first Gallardo Superleggera at Lamborghini Troy by July! New Event Update: Our second Brake-Fast club will be Saturday, June 30th – I hope to see you there! Also, don’t forget about the Track Day event on Friday, July 20th at Gingerman Raceway. Last year we were fortunate enough to have Valentino Balboni, and, although it is too early to know what Valentino’s schedule will be like in July, we have invited him to come out again and join us at the track! This year’s event is expected to be even better than last year’s event. For more information on upcoming events, please feel free to e-mail or call me about this and other events going on this year! Also, looking ahead: For those of you who are interested in going to Italy this November to spend two days under professional instruction driving Lamborghinis, please get in touch with me! The Mach 3 event, which takes place on the Santa Monica International race track, right by the Adriatic coast is only about an hour away from the Lamborghini Factory in Sant’Agata. I look forward to seeing you all at the showroom or an event soon! Richard A. Many of the attendees were excited to see the updated version of the Gallardo. The evening started out with the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Bill Nuccio, Sr. (owner of Lamborghini Chicago) and his business partner, Marc Iozzo; Thomas Castronovo (managing director and director of marketing for The Private Bank); Westmont Village Mayor William Rahn; and Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Lamborghini S.p.A – he flew in from Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy to help celebrate the event. Rene Sueltzner and Jonathon Kirshtein from Lamborghini Technical Services also attended to show support for the Lamborghini brand and Lamborghini Chicago’s new location. Chicago Chapter LCA Coordinators, Carla Giordano and Dave Miller, along with Mike Wogronic from Lamborghini Chicago were among many of the Lamborghini owners, enthusiasts, and other notables who were also in attendance. From there, the night proceeded with many of the guests enjoying Italian wines, cheese tortellini, and decadent tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella skewers topped with aged balsamic vinegar and seasoned olive oil from local Italian eateries. Throughout the night, up-tempo DJ beats were buzzing in the air to add to the excitement of the event. Also a part of the night’s events was a luxury fashion show, showing off a number of elegant Italian clothes and jewels. The big winner of the event was the Children’s Memorial Foundation, who received a donation of $17,000 from the proceeds of the Grand Opening. Through this event, Bill Nuccio Sr. was able to combine a few things he holds close to his heart – a passion for fine motor cars and the ability to help make a difference in children’s lives. The event proved to be a night for the history books. 4 MIDWEST LAMBOS SPRING 2007 LAMBORGHINI CLUB AMERICA SPRING 2007 MIDWEST LAMBOS 5 LAMBORGHINI CLUB AMERICA Martinis & Lamborghinis, a Children’s Benefit (continued from page 1) and a fashion show complete with current, fashionable clothing and jewelry. Attendees were severed with a strolling dinner throughout the evening, with catering by the Matt Prentice Restaurant Group. A couple DJs were also on hand to keep crowds dancing and the atmosphere light and fun. Richard Bell and Matthew Vazana from Lamborghini Troy were present, along with several other notables from the groups sponsoring the event. Lamborghini owners were given the opportunity to discuss any activities and upcoming events dedicated to Lamborghini owners and enthusiasts. The event, organized by Tony Fayne of Capital Event Productions and co-chaired by Bruce Migdal and Eric Clark, turned out to be a very successful, fun-filled evening with an even better cause in mind: Michigan children. All proceeds from the event went to Detroit’s Variety Chapter, Tent 5, a charity organization dedicated to critical medical and therapeutic services, recreational facilities and educational opportunities to southeast Michigan children with special needs. All money raised by the Detroit Variety Chapter is dedicated exclusively for charities in the metro Detroit area. A number of sponsors made this event possible; special thanks goes to the Matt Prentice Restaurant Group, Hamilton, Miller, Hudson, & Fayne Travel Corp., Darakjian Jewelers, Lamborghini Troy, The Somerset Collection, and J. To commemorate the event, Tom Kruse, the Mayor of Marysville (where Lamborghini Ohio is based), jump-started the day by officially declaring April 27th as “Lamborghini Ohio Day” in Marysville – and it didn’t stop there. Throughout the day, a number of events were scheduled for the attendees of the celebration. city of Delaware, which included a beautiful rural setting, south down the local expressway – allowing the fine Italian models to gain some speed and feel the open road. From there, the cruise proceeded to Columbus near the campus of Ohio State University and finally made its way through several downtown streets. Several onlookers were on hand with camera phones and digital cameras to catch snapshots and video of the rare sight of so many Italian exotics together in Ohio. The Lamborghini Ohio dealership, a member of the Nelson Auto Group, features the largest Lamborghini showroom in the United States. With 25,000 square feet dedicated to the sale and service of Lamborghinis, there is more than enough room to make any Lamborghini owner or enthusiast feel like they were at home in Sant’Agata, Italy. The cruise took party attendees to BoMa (The Bar of Modern Art), where the entire VIP parking lot was reserved for the large number of Italian exotics. BoMa provided the perfect atmosphere for more mingling among owners and enthusiasts with video screens broadcasting racing Lamborghini images, a live ‘painting’ of a Lamborghini on stage, and Lamborghini Ohio’s “Lambo Girls” distributing promotional gifts throughout the evening. The festivities were kicked off early with the Gallardo Road Show, where Lamborghini clients were able to drive one of three new 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyders or Coupes for one-half hour on the streets of Marysville. The weather, although not the sunniest of days, still allowed for good driving conditions during the event. From there, attendees were invited back to the showroom for tours and mingling among several other Lamborghini owners and enthusiasts. Fine, complimentary refreshments were served throughout the day, much to the delight of those who drove in from farther distances (one Lamborghini Murcielago owner drove all the way from Texas to join us for the event). At 5:30 in the evening, 24 Lamborghinis and 15 Ferraris lined up outside of the dealership for a cruise into downtown Columbus. The pre-planned route, complete with police escorts, went through the 10 MIDWEST LAMBOS SPRING 2007 The night at BoMa also included a very elegant setting with a creative, art-driven evening meal. Guests were presented with a special menu for the 5-course meal and treated exceptionally through each and every course. Wrapping up the night, complimentary Italian wine and champagne was available for guests to enjoy (the final tally of finished bottles came to 49 bottles of wine and 39 bottles of champagne!). Needless to say, the event was exceptionally planned and provided a great opportunity for several Midwest Lambos owners (and one owner from Texas!) to meet one another again. The Chicago show is the largest auto show in North America, featuring over 1,000 vehicles over the course of the 10-day show. The show, since its inception in 1901, continues to be one of the most well-attended auto shows in the world with over one million visitors yearly. This year was no different from the statistics of years past; it proved to be a very well-attended event from both visitors and auto manufacturers alike. Traditionally a venue to display several new production vehicles, the Chicago Show lived up to its reputation, in addition to showing off a number of concept cars previously unveiled in North America. Lamborghini Chicago, one of the only exotics to attend this year, made a strong showing – they brought along a Gallardo Coupe, Gallardo Spyder, and a Murcielago Roadster for visitors to see upclose. In fact, this was the first year that Lamborghini had dedicated display space – in years past, Lamborghini models were grouped together with a number of other exotics such as Lotus and Porsche. Mike Wogronic, a representative from Lamborghini Chicago, was present throughout the show to greet any visitors and provide additional information. A number of Lamborghini Club America mem- 16 MIDWEST LAMBOS SPRING 2007 bers also stopped by to meet and greet with other members and dealership representatives. Unfortunately, though, many of the exotic manufacturers, including Ferrari and Lamborghini, have gained little interest from visitors to the Chicago show, and may possibly end relations for future years. Next year, the Chicago Show will hit its 100th anniversary – and plans are under way for even larger festivities – we hope to see you there! In addition to the events that have kicked off this driving season, some individuals from our Lamborghini community have been referenced in a couple popular car magazines: Evans Auto, Milano Imports, and Lamborghini Club America were noted in a featured Countach article in “Hemmings Sport & Exotic Car”; Jim Kaminski of the Lamborghini Owners Club and his Italian Speed Festival in Florida made it into “Makes & Models Magazine”! Next, I am proud to introduce Lamborghini enthusiast and club member Hovik Gevorgyan. He has recently joined the club effort as an events coordinator for the New York / New Jersey / Connecticut area. Having organized several events in the tri-state area and already having a great reputation in the exotic community, Hovik is going to be an excellent addition for the future of Lamborghini Club America and Midwest Lambos. The main purpose of the LCA Midwest Region is to provide an additional resource for Midwest owners. In addition to bringing owners together through our website for Lamborghini related interests, we also help to organize several Lamborghini events throughout the year. Currently, this newsletter is mailed to well over 325 Lamborghini owners in the Midwest region, and more than 400 owners outside of the Midwest. With your help and participation in the club, we can continue to make this car club better than ever! I would like to personally extend a thank-you to all members who have returned their LCA membership renewal forms for 2007 – it is that support that will maintain the strength of the club and this newsletter. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete the 2007 membership form and update us with your current contact information (please note this information is kept strictly confidential to Lamborghini Club America). Lamborghini Club America would like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of this newsletter: Lamborghini Troy, Lamborghini Ohio, MotorCars International, Evans Automotive, Complete Hydraulic, LamboStuff, and Premier Financial Services. Without their support, we would be unable to create this newsletter of such quality for the Lamborghini Community. Please support these businesses, as they have helped to make Lamborghini ownership a better experience. Once again, thanks for reading this newsletter and I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event!
