reflection of a company’s strength in the

If you’re really good, people will be able to

without even thinking when they come

TRADITION: Since our first motorcycle
in 1903, Husqvarna has built a tradition
of innovation and excellence. When the
pioneering heroes of motocross took their
customised Husqvarna street bikes and
turned the motorcycling world upside down,

We are beyond thrilled to see our flagship of the
2014 Husqvarna line up – the FE 501 – named
Dirt Bike magazine’s Bike Of The Year! The
wrecking crew at Dirt Bike mag couldn’t help
but stand in awe of the big-bore off-roader, as
well as the hard-working company behind it that
is fueling the re-birth of this venerated brand.
In their own words, here’s what the editors
of Dirt Bike magazine had to say: “Here’s
the skinny: the Husqvarna FE 501 mates

Graham Jarvis set out to defend his
number one plate at the Erzberg Red
Bull Hare Scramble, and though he
came close to doing so, the extreme
enduro specialist had to settle for
second place.
“It’s disappointing,” Jarvis lamented.
“I wanted to win.”
Nonetheless, Graham still showcased
his incredible skill in negotiating the
treacherous Erzberg Rodeo course,
including the infamous “Carl’s Diner”
section.
“To be honest, my chance of winning
ended on the very first hill out of the
quarry floor,” Jarvis said. “I came
off the line quite well but got boxed
out going into the first corner. When
I came to the first climb a few riders
crashed in front of me and then I
crashed trying to get around them.
I had to take a second run at the climb.
That put me behind straight away and
it was an uphill battle from there. The
pace was pretty high and it was tough
to fight back. I got up to second going
through Carl’s Diner but by that stage,
Johnny Walker was just too far ahead
to catch. I had to take second.”
Joining Jarvis in the top-five was his
Bel-Ray Factory Husqvarna teammate
Alfredo Gomez, who finished fourth.
Like Jarvis, Gomez was expecting a
better result, but was still proud of
his finish.
The race started well but during the
middle of it, I made four big mistakes,”
Gomez said. “I didn’t really crash
anywhere; I just lost time on some
of the climbs.
It’s disappointing because I felt like I
had the speed to place inside the topthree, but fourth is still a good result.”

Not only did Husqvarna take top honors
in the Bike Of The Year category – we also
backed it up with an honorable mention! The
TE 300 was showered in adulation in Dirt

it’s especially good at tight trails and hard-core
off-road riding—all the things we love most.”
Factory Husqvarna rider Jacob
Argubright made history on April 27,
2014 by riding to victory in the Vikings
MC Virgin Voyage National Hare &
Hound. Argubright’s win marked
the first time in decades Husqvarna
has topped the podium at a national
desert race.
“I’m really happy to get this win for
Husqvarna,” Argubright said. “Desert
racing was a big part of Husky’s
legacy in the 60s, 70s and 80s. I’m
proud to be on a Husky and put them
back on the map in the National Hare
& Hound Championship!”

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity,” Lawler said. “I think
the sky is the limit to where we can
go with Husqvarna and I’m very
excited to be a part of the team. I
have a long history with dirt bikes
– I still race to this day in events
like the Vet World Championships
and Mammoth Motocross. I have a
well-rounded skillset off the bike,
as well, with a diverse background
in marketing and sales. I’m looking
forward to bringing it all together
as Marketing Manager for the
new Husqvarna.”

HANGTOWN
Husqvarna Motorcycles recently
announced that the iconic brand will
make a return to the AMA Pro ranks of
Supercross and Motocross. Although
the all-new Rockstar Energy Husqvarna
Factory Racing team won’t be in action
until the 2015 season, throngs of fans at
the 2014 Hangtown Motocross Classic
got to see some Huskys take to the
national track. In honor of past legends
and future champions, “Bad” Brad
Lackey and Chuck Sun rode a “Lap of
Legends” at round two of the AMA
Pro Motocross Championship. Lackey,
aboard a 1973 CR 400, and Sun,
aboard a 2014 TC 250, showcased
40 years of Husqvarna history for the
Hangtown fans, and also autographed
limited-edition Husqvarna posters for a
throng of lucky Hangtown Motocross
Classic fans.

EYES TELL A FAR MORE YOUTHFUL STORY, A STORY OF A MAN
WHO CAME FROM SWEDEN ON A WHIM, FOUND HIMSELF ALONE
IN THE MIDWEST BARELY SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE, RACING
UNDER A PHONY NAME AND TRYING TO SELL HUSQVARNAS –
A MOTORCYCLE HARDLY ANYONE HAD EVER HEARD OF.
Lars Larsson (a.k.a. “Larry Lawson”)
had an interesting journey that took
him quite literally from the beginning
all the way to the present day of
American motocross. Larsson was
the first Factory Husqvarna rider in
America, and nearly 50 years later,
he is still racing motocross (did you
know that there is a 70+ class?)!
During his career, Larsson witnessed
the formation of the dirt bike
industry, America’s fascination with
motocross and the radical evolution
of the sport. The former Swedish GP
star is now pleased to witness the
rebirth of the brand that started it all
for him — Husqvarna Motorcycles.
In a rare sit-down at his San Diego,
California home, Lars talked about his
history with Husqvarna Motorcycles,
coming to the United States and the
types of innovation that drove the
industry. His vast experience and
colorful personality revealed a unique
perspective — one that could only
come from a living thread woven
into the fabric of motocross history.
His first race in America
Edison Dye picked me up and he
said, ‘We’re going to go racing.
We’re going to Indiana State
Championship TT.’ I don’t know
what the heck he was talking
about. We get to this Indiana
state championship and I signed
up as ‘Larry Lawson’ because I
was not supposed to take part
in any racing over here (because
of the Swedish motorcycle
federation and the FIM). We
take the crate out of the van, I
uncrate it and start putting the
fork on the bike and people were
starting to come close and say,
‘Hey, what is that? What are you
doing?’ All those TT bikes had
the smooth tires, maybe with
the cut in it. I had Trelleborgs.
(Swedish-made knobby tires)
People said, ‘You can’t race with
those kind of tires. You won’t
stand a chance.’ And Edison
said, ‘Oh, it’s okay. We just want
him to ride to show the bike
because this is a motocross
bike.’ Well, I whipped them with
those tires. They were sliding
around the corners and I couldn’t
slide – I was tracking. I just went
up to the corner, turned and went

the other way. Afterwards, a lot
of people gathered around us.
People were trying to talk to me,
but I didn’t speak English. All I
could say was, ‘Husqvarna…
very good quality Swedish… very
good motorcycle.’ Edison told me
this many times, and he always
laughed because people around
me kinda shook their heads and
said, ‘Them California boys, they
sure talk funny.’
Innovation of Husqvarna
I think in the beginning their
quality seemed to be extremely
good. A Husky started on the first
kick. Back then, no motorcycle
started on the first kick. But
the way they were promoting
the motorcycle with the racing
program, not only in motocross,
but in the desert and in enduro,
as well. A lot of that had to do
with the two people: Bror Jauren
and Ruben Helmin. They were
very enthusiastic for racing,
and if it hadn’t been for them,
I don’t think Husqvarna would
have ever made any bikes. They
basically had to make it without
the approval of the big shots, so
things were made on the side.

Summer 1971 with the
Titanium Bike
The summer with the titanium
bike was something else. Pro
Fab up in Orange County built
the frame. A guy selling material
came to us and said, ‘Hey, I’m
in the titanium business.
I think there should be a
bike made with titanium.’
We linked up with Pro Fab and
got it going. It was so light… you
took the start and never looked
back. You were gone! It was a
fantastic bike to ride in those
days. We were very successful
on that bike, but unfortunately
after that summer series (the
AMA) outlawed it. At the time
they blamed it on the cost.
But you can never talk me into

Finally they had this street bike,
the Silverpilen, and they modified
it and they were lucky to get
people like Torsten [Hallman] to
ride it. He beat everybody.
It’s power to those people.
They had a vision. There’s
many people like that – Henry
Ford would be one. He had a
passion. It’s that spirit that is
the driving force.

you draw the line? We’re never
going to be able to buy exactly
what the factory riders have. But
there’s still people coming from
the bottom, work their way up
and one day they will have the
factory ride.
One of the most remarkable
things about you is that
you’re still racing. What is
the competition like in the
70+ class?
Well, they beat me in the (Vet)
World Championship in October. I
did win it in 2011 and 2012, but
I got second in 2013. Those kids
that are just turning 70, they’re
hard to deal with!
The Evolution of Motocross
Supercross – what a success
that was. It’s a different sport.
I know many of the old riders
don’t think much of it. But
it’s a fantastic extension of
motocross. I think that the world
championship doesn’t mean
squat today in the sense that
everybody is not welcome to
compete. In the old days, each
country was allowed so many

riders to compete in the world
championship. Well, that’s not
the case today. No matter, each
country has their best riders.
How they stand against another
country’s best rider, that’s one
thing. But at least they should
be able to compete, like in the
Olympics. The US nationals, that
is, in a sense, the real world
championship today. But at the
same time it’s not. Because
where I’m coming from, a world
champion means you gotta travel
around many different countries
and compete around the world.
You gotta learn how to eat the
food they give you; you gotta
go through the language. I wish
there were more Americans
competing in the world
championship. The biggest honor
you can have, in my opinion, is
to represent your country. As a
sportsman, as a rider, there is no
higher call.
What has it been like to
watch motocross grow to
the level it is at today?
The whole thing has been an
unbelievable experience. It’s
like you dropped something in

An American Story
the water and the ripples grow
bigger and bigger. To have been
a small part of that evolution is
a fantastic thing. Seeing when
the Americans started going
over to Europe really to compete
and how they won some world
championships, and Motocross
des Nations, how they won that.
When I sit and have a little glass
of wine and think about all these
things… yeah, I was a little
part of it.
Perspectives on the new
direction of Husqvarna?
It’s neat. It’s neat that the name
is not going away. I worked
with KTM when I came to this
country and when we were the
distributors, and I raced KTM
for many years. I’ve seen what
they’ve done. I feel very good
that Husqvarna is back with them
because I think Husqvarna will
not take KTM’s market share, but
other brands’ market share. I am
certain that KTM will do a hell of
a good job with Husqvarna.

It’s been nearly 14 years since Husqvarna has
participated in Supercross, but the iconic marque
is officially headed back to the stadiums! Husqvarna
is making this historic return to the pinnacle of
AMA Pro ranks with Rockstar Energy Racing, and
will be contesting the 2015 AMA Supercross and
Motocross Championships.
Husqvarna – along with the Rockstar Energy Racing
crew – proudly announced the formation of the
new team at a press conference in Murrieta, California.
The announcement was made to media, industry
guests and VIPs at the Husqvarna headquarters
as reigning 250 West Supercross Champion, Jason
Anderson rode the all-new FC 450 out onto the stage,
followed by the rest of the Rockstar team.
“This is a very exciting moment and a milestone in
the Husqvarna history books,” said Head of Husqvarna
Motorsport Robert Jonas. “Re-entering Supercross
with an outstanding team such as Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna Factory Racing and Jason Anderson are
the perfect circumstances for success.”
New Mexico-native Jason Anderson is making the
step up to the premier class in 2015, and will be riding
the FC 450 in AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross
Championships.
“It’s cool to be a part of bringing the Husqvarna brand
back to Supercross,” Anderson commented. “I rode
the bike before I signed and I really like it so that made
my decision pretty easy. I’m excited to be racing it and
making my debut in the 450 class on a Husqvarna.
We have a good program in place and we know we
have the capability to win championships, so I think
it’s going to be good.”

ANDY JEFFERSON is the
man behind Husqvarna’s North
American off-road racing efforts.
A former factory Husqvarna rider,
and still an avid motocross racer,
himself, Andy brings plenty of
experience to the team. “This is
a landmark year for Husqvarna
and we couldn’t ask for a better
team to fly the flag,” Jefferson
said. “Husqvarna is covering five
different national championships
as well as other select events
around the world."
RUSSELL BOBBITT #23 brings
with him four national enduro
championships. The Factory
Husqvarna rider was planning
a bid at his fifth national title in
2014 but unfortunately started
his season with an injury. Look
for him to be back in the saddle
soon, and putting his FE 350 on
the podium at National Enduros
and OMA Nationals.
ANDREW DELONG #10/27A
is a returning rider to Husqvarna,
but met with some major
changes in 2014. The promising
young off-roader made the
step up to the premier class of
the GNCC series, and is also
keeping plenty busy with the
AMA National Enduro Series.
JACOB ARGUBRIGHT
#911 is proud to bring the
Husqvarna marque back to the
desert, where he is contesting
the National Hare & Hound
Championship aboard an FC
450. The Southern California
native is also taking on the AMA
Western Hare Scrambles series,
and will be tackling several
extreme races, as well.
MIKE BROWN #3/41A
highlights the Husqvarna factory
team as its premier rider. He
will be contesting the AMA
EnduroCross Championship
aboard a Husqvarna this season,
as well as many other select
off-road events. “Brownie” has
already been to Australia and
back on his FE 350, and plans to
race as many different off-road
events in 2014 as possible!

Tell us about the Husqvarna
you’re riding. I have a Husky 125
2-stroke and I love it! The power is
smooth, it’s super easy to flow on
the bike, and it is FAST! Even though
I am a smaller rider the bike feels
super light and easy for me to whip.
What is your relationship with
Husqvarna? This is a brand new
relationship. Since retiring from
motocross I haven't ridden much,
but this year I decided to do some
riding. Husqvarna offered me a bike
to ride, which I thought was super
cool of them!
How long had it been since you
were on a 125? Did it take some
getting used to? The last time I
raced a 125 2-stroke was in 2007
so it has been a while. Actually it
didn't take me any time to adjust;
I honestly prefer a 2-stroke over a
4-stroke. For me, being a smaller
rider, I need something that is lighter
and easier to move around so the
Husky 125 2-stroke is perfect.
Is that the bike you chose or is
it what Husky offered you?
I chose the 125 2-stroke, I believe
Husqvarna would let me ride
whatever I wanted, but like I said,
I prefer the 2-stroke over the
4-stroke. It is just more fun for me
to ride.
Speaking of fun, is it a relief to
just play ride rather than being
focused on racing? For sure! I just
ride when I want to ride. I still train
but that is just to stay in shape. No
pressure – just play riding. It is all
about fun and the Husky 125 makes
it a blast.
Is there any chance we’ll see
you at the races this year?
I love the bike but I will not be racing
unless it is a special event. Right
now I am just focused on play riding
and having fun.
Can you tell us about the Ashley
Fiolek Foundation? Over the years
I have had the opportunity to visit
schools and other organizations
and talk to the kids about going
after your dreams. It was a great
experience for me so I wanted to
continue that with the Ashley Fiolek
Foundation.
Getting the foundation going has
been slow but I think it will be
awesome once we are ready to
go! I have a bunch of ideas that I
think would benefit children and
young women, but for now we
are starting with the "Dirt Bike
Outreach" program. The idea here
to visit different organizations, speak
with the children or young women
about their dreams. I want them to
understand that anything is possible
if you work hard and surround
yourself with the right people! After
that we will go ride dirt bikes.
I will teach them the basics of riding
motorcycles and then we will do a
simple beginner course. I want to
give them a taste of riding and show
them how exciting and empowering
it is – how it changed my life! I
am not expecting these children
to become racers; the goal is to
get passionate about something,
encourage them to chase that
dream and maybe it could become
their career. I think by trying
something they may have never
had the chance to, it could let them
know that they can do anything.
At the end of the day, I hope it’s
an experience of a lifetime.

LAND OF THE
MIDNIGHT SUN
TO CELEBRATE THE ARRIVAL OF THE 2015 MODEL LINE,
Husqvarna Motorcycles invited journalists from around the world
to the land of the midnight sun for a grand kick-off! Media made
the trek to Luleå in northern Sweden where they were welcomed
to a day of riding the new 2015 Husqvarnas in a land where the
sun never sets (not in July, anyway). Both track and trails awaited
journalists at the Luleå venue, where they had a chance to throw
a leg over 2-strokes, 4-strokes, off-road and motocross bikes
from 85cc all the way up to 501.
The Sweden getaway also included a trip to the World Motocross
GP in Uddevalla to see the Bel-Ray Husqvarna Factory Race
Team in action. Editors also had a chance to visit the historic
town of Huskvarna (did you know it was a town?) and visit the
Husky museum where everything from motorcycles to sewing
machines and weapons are
on display.

ridden. I’m absolutely loving it. It puts a lot of fun and enjoyment into
riding. Nowadays the bikes are so good. This FE 350, just clean the air
filter, change the oil and keep fresh rubber on it and go have fun.
Favorite thing: My favorite thing about it would have to be the electric
start. Oh, and the green sticker, since I live in California!
