REPORTING NEWS OF INTEREST TO YANCEY BROS. CO. EMPLOYEES
Summer 2006
A Message from Jim
Dear Friends:
In this
Issue of
Yancey
Pride
Safety First ! . . . page 2
WOW . . . THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE !
That's the first thing that popped into my mind when I looked through this issue of PRIDE. All
of the new employees who have joined us, the new facilities we're opening, the job promotions
and those of you who have been recognized for your Yancey Pride just overwhelmed me.
Add to this the efforts we're making towards recruiting more employees through our Technical Colleges and high school events, our being recognized by Caterpillar for being the best in
dealing with one of their major mining customers, and our second business ethics award. This
is quite impressive.
I shouldn’t be surprised by these accomplishments, recognitions and honors. I hope you feel
as I do that Yancey has the most dedicated and well-trained Technicians, Specialists, Managers and Employees of any construction equipment and engine dealer in the United States.
Each and every one of us takes great pride in serving our customers and helping all of them
be more successful in their business ventures.
I’m proud of all of you and what we've
done, but I’m even more proud of the
trust our customers place in us when
they rely on Yancey to serve and solve
for them and help them succeed.

Without each of us doing our best every day, we're just another equipment

should operate.

Is it the Flu or Something Else? Carbon
Monoxide Poisoning Alert - Just the Facts
Carbon Monoxide (CO)
poisoning is the leading cause
of accidental poisoning deaths
in the USA . How many of you
have gas appliances in your
home? When was the last time
you had them serviced and
tested? Last year? Five years
ago? Ten years ago? Never?
Safety First !
What is Carbon Monoxide
(CO)?
Physical Properties
• Carbon Monoxide is a
flammable, colorless, odorless,
tasteless, toxic gas produced
during incomplete combustion
of fuel –Natural Gas, Oil, Coal,
Wood, Kerosene, Propane,
etc.
Medical Properties
• Up to 25% of chronic CO
poisoning may be misdiagnosed as flu symptoms.
• Once again, CO is a
stealth gas – it can kill before
you know it’s there.
• The human body does not
have immunity against carbon
monoxide.
• CO takes twice as long
to leave the human body as it
does to enter.
• CO can build up at low
levels before symptoms of CO
poisoning begin to appear.
• There are at–risk groups
to CO poisoning; those who
breathe faster (infants, fetuses,
small children) and those who
already cannot take in the same
amount of oxygen as a healthy
adult (elderly, sick, those with
respiratory disease). These
groups of people can develop
symptoms of CO poisoning
with lower concentrations of
CO present.
• CO inhibits and replaces
Oxygen in the bloodstream
Symptoms – Quick Facts
• Low Level CO Poisoning
- “flu-like” symptoms; headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, confusion, irritability.
• Moderate Level CO Poisoning - vomiting, drowsiness,
loss of consciousness.
• High Level CO Poisoning seizure, coma, permanent brain
damage, ultimately death.
A Few Words About Carbon
Monoxide Detectors
Carbon Monoxide Detectors
are widely available in stores
and you may want to consider
buying one as a back up --BUT
NOT AS A REPLACEMENT for
proper use and maintenance of
your fuel-burning appliances. However, it is important for
you to know that the technology
of CO detectors is still developing, that there are several types
on the market, and that they are
not generally considered to be
as reliable as the smoke detectors found in homes today.
of Consumer Reports), the
American Gas Association,
and Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) can help you make an
informed decision. Look for UL
certification on any detector you
purchase.
Carefully follow manufacturers’ instructions for its placement, use, and maintenance.
Some CO detectors have
been laboratory-tested, and
their performance varied. Some
performed well, others failed
to alarm even at very high CO
levels, and still others alarmed
even at very low levels that don’t
pose any immediate health
risk.
And unlike a smoke detector, where you can easily confirm the cause of the alarm, CO
is invisible and odorless, so it’s
harder to tell if an alarm is false
or a real emergency.
So What’s a Consumer to
Do? First, don’t let buying a
CO detector lull you into a false
sense of security. Preventing
CO from becoming a problem
in your home is better than
relying on an alarm. Follow the
checklist of DOs and DON’Ts.
Second, if you shop for a CO
detector, do some research on
features and don’t select solely
on the basis of cost. Non-governmental organizations such
as Consumers Union (publisher
DO have your fuel-burning
appliances -- including oil and
gas furnaces, gas water heaters, gas ranges and ovens, gas
dryers, gas or kerosene space
heaters, fireplaces, and wood
stoves -- inspected by a trained
professional at the beginning
of every heating season. Make certain that
the flues and chimneys are connected,
in good condition, and
not blocked.
DO choose appliances that vent their
fumes to the outside
whenever possible,
have them properly
installed, and maintain them according
to manufacturers’ instructions.
DO read and follow
all of the instructions
that accompany any
fuel-burning device. If
you cannot avoid using an unvented gas or

kerosene space heater, carefully follow the cautions that come
with the device. Use the proper
fuel and keep doors to the rest
of the house open. Crack a
window to ensure enough air
for ventilation and proper fuel
burning.
DO call EPA’s IAQ INFO
Clearinghouse (1-800-4384318) or the Consumer Product
Safety Commission (1-800638-2772) for more information
on how to reduce your risks
from CO and other combustion
gases and particles.
DON’T idle the car in a garage -- even if the garage door
to the outside is open. Fumes
can build up very quickly in the
garage and living area of your
home.
DON’T use a gas oven to
heat your home, even for a
short time.
DON’T ever use a charcoal
grill indoors -- even in a fireplace.
DON’T sleep in any room
with an unvented gas or kerosene space heater.
DON’T use any gasolinepowered engines (mowers,
weed trimmers, snow blowers,
chain saws, small engines or
generators) in enclosed spaces.
DON’T ignore symptoms,
particularly if more than one
person is feeling them. You
could lose consciousness and
die if you do nothing.

In 2005, the Better Business Bureau serving Metro Atlanta, Athens and Northeast Georgia selected
Yancey as one of four recipients of their “2005 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace
Ethics.” Being awarded this honor was a milestone in Yancey Bros. Co.'s history.
And now, in March of this year, the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia and the CSRA
(Central Savannah River Area) named Yancey as a recipient of their “2006 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.” Congratulations to every Yancey employee. Without your hard work, values
and commitment, our company would not be accepting this honor. Treating others in an ethical
manner is not something we have to think about, but something we do all day every day.

What's a "New Product Introduction" Team?
When Caterpillar rolls out new products, it’s up to Yancey to get the scoop and convey it to everyone that needs this information
to continue doing their jobs well. Information about new Cat and competitive machines is crucial for us to maintain our profitability
and increase our market share.
To help distribute information about new products and train new sales representatives, a new department has been established.
The New Product Introduction (NPI) team was formed to ensure that Yancey Bros. Co. employees in Sales, Service, and Product
Support are informed and knowledgeable of new products and that our sales and service literature, tooling, training, and marketing
programs are in place and available to our customers as new products are introduced.
Heading up this new department is Bill Abraham, our new NPI Manager. Bill joined Yancey in 2003 as a BCP Sales Representative and brings eighteen years of experience in the construction equipment industry to his new position. Most recently Bill served
as BCP Finance Business Manager. Rounding out the NPI team are Brian Tieslau and Dan Kelly. Brian and Dan both joined
Yancey in 2005 as Sales Trainees.
Our new NPI team hit the ground running with a “Basic Iron” training class where they spent two days reviewing Cat and competitive machines and spending time on the equipment yard getting hands-on experience on the machines that they highlighted in the
classroom. In addition to their own training, our NPI team will work with Cat to provide product training for our sales team.
Other important tasks for our NPI team will include creating and maintaining the machine configurations that we typically stock
at Yancey as well as maintaining the machine specification sheets for all the Yancey stores. The team is also developing a database
that will serve as a single source of new product information
for Sales Representatives. This database will include the
newest information and spec sheets for Cat and competitive
machines, demo results, and the outstanding features and
performance information for each machine.
While our NPI team is working hard to provide our Sales,
Service, and Product Support departments with the most
up-to-date product information available, Dan and Brian will
also be learning product information, increasing their market
awareness, and developing their sales skills by working with
the demo operators and supporting the Earthmoving sales
department. A major goal of the NPI team is to build a confident and knowledgeable pool of candidates ready to hit the
Caterpillar's newest product, the M-Series Motorgrader.

Living the College Life . . . Yancey Style!
Yancey Bros. Co. sponsors one-year Certificate programs in Heavy Equipment Technology at
Altamaha Technical College, West Central Technical College, and North Georgia Technical College. Yancey also sponsors, along with six other
southeastern Cat Dealers, a two-year Associates
Degree program at South Georgia Technical College.
Tech Colleges
Altamaha Technical College
Altamaha Tech, located in Baxley, will conduct
their Yancey-sponsored class in Heavy Equipment
Technology program in Georgia. Yancey and Altamaha Tech, working as partners, kicked off
their inaugural class this past October. Instructor
Albert Wildes, began the program with 14 students: Jared Beecher, Lawrence Bradley, Cody

Yancey's Jim Larson (left) and Jeff Cornwell (right) presented a
check representing Yancey's first year cash contribution to Altamaha Tech Vice President Elaine Tuten last year. Caterpillar
matched our $25,000 contribution with an additional $25,000.
North Georgia Technical College
Beginning in September, Yancey's sponsorship of the Heavy
Equipment Technology program at Gwinnett Tech is being moved
to a new college campus - North Georgia Technical College in
Clarksville. This move will benefit not only YBCo, but it will open
up the program to more students in northeast Georgia. It was a
mutual decision of both Yancey and GTC to relocate the program
so that it could continue to grow and serve more students. We
expect to have 20-25 students in the inagural NGTC class. All
students that were enrolled in the GTC class will continue their
schooling at Gwinnett Tech and will finish the program at that
school.
North Georgia Tech is the oldest technical college in Georgia
(they recently celebrated their 100th anniversary) and has a campus complete with dorms. This will give our students from outside
the Clarksville area an economical means of attending college.
West Central Technical College
West Central Technical College is located west of metro Atlanta in Carrolton. West Central Tech's two completed classes have
produced interns working in our Austell, Kennesaw and Moreland
South Georgia Technical College is located in Americus and is
a "Think Big!" program. "Think Big!" is a Caterpillar sponsored two
year Associates degree program that is supported at South Georgia Technical College by seven southeastern Caterpillar dealers.
The program consists of students going to class for eight weeks
and then following up with eight weeks of internships - continuing
this rotation for two years. This past year we sponsored and hired
three graduates of the program, Ross McLendon, Heath Eidson
and Matthew Burks.
Lance Teele, Adam Camp and Christopher Crenshaw are
beginning their second year of the program and are working with
the Austell and Albany shops during their internship programs.
At this time we have ten qualified students that have applied
for the four "Yancey" slots in the SGTC program. Should any
of the other sponsoring Caterpillar dealers not send students for
their allotment of spaces, we will make sure that future Yancey
Technicians get these valuable slots.
Our SGTC students will intern out of our Austell and Albany
shops. All of the students are under the guidance of the Think
Big! program instructors Rick Davis and Mike Treadaway.

The 90-minute "meeting"
portion of the event included
multiple speakers, a viewing of

We had students from as
far away as St. Marys (located
on I-95 at the Georgia/Florida

all indications it was a very
successful affair. Now that
we have identified prospective
students for next year's classes, we'll work with our Technical Colleges to assist them in
other recruiting efforts and in
enrolling these future Yancey
Service Techs into their Heavy
Equipment Diesel Technology
programs.
Plans are for us to again
sponsor a NASCAR-themed
recruiting event this upcoming October on the Friday of
race week at AMS. Cat Racing team owner Bill Davis,
Cat driver Dave Blaney and
the Caterpillar #22 Dodge
have already committed to
attend.
Ag Division Makes Sure They "Git-R-Done"
"Git-R-Done!" That's exactly what our Ag Products division did when the well-known
comedian Larry The Cable Guy, from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, purchased a Challenger®
tractor from Yancey as a gift for his friend and mentor, Jeff Foxworthy. The Challenger MT525B
was delivered to Mr. Foxworthy by Larry, complete with a Red Bow, last September.
Jeff Rich, an Ag Sales Representative from our Albany store, worked with the manager of
Foxworthy’s hunting retreat near Columbus to secure the sale of the Challenger. The manager
of Foxworthy’ hunting preserve was so impressed with this Challenger that he traded in his
John Deere and bought a second Challenger, an MT400B, for the preserve.
Jeff Foxworthy is an avid deer hunter when he is not on tour. A couple of years ago he
purchased some land near Callaway Gardens, just north of Columbus, so he could pursue his hunting passion. Foxworthy lives with his family in the north Atlanta suburbs
near Alpharetta and can easily drive down to his property in around two hours.
In a September visit to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the cast members of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour talked about Jeff’s new tractor. Jay
Leno asked Jeff if he had a John Deere at which time Foxworthy told him,
“No way, it’s a Caterpillar®! ”. Jeff added that his favorite hobby is getting on
his Challenger and mowing. Since his Tonight Show appearance, Foxworthy has added to his fleet with the purchase of a batwing cutter from us.
This is not the first time a Challenger tractor from
our Ag Products division has been featured on TV
at a hunting preserve near Callaway Gardens. In
2003, with the help of Steve Lynch, Earthmoving
Sales Representative, and George Copelan, Earthmoving Product Support Representative, our Ag division
was able to provide two Challenger tractors for the filming
of an episode of Bill Jordan’s Realtree Outdoors. During the show, which airs Sunday mornings on ESPN2, the
Challenger MT200 and MT400 series tractors were used
to
demonstrate how to properly plant wildlife game plots.

Long Term Care Insurance to be Offered
Planning for Long Term Care can directly impact your financial well being in retirement
What is Long Term Care Insurance? Long Term Care Insurance is designed to help protect you from the financial burden that
is often associated with receiving home and community based care when you, or a family member, has a prolonged physical illness,
a disability, or a cognitive impairment that requires either in-home health care, assisted living, or a stay in a nursing home. Long Term
Care Insurance is a benefit option that Yancey will be offering its employees, and their extended family members.
Why would you want Long Term Care Insurance? Nursing home costs can run over $61,000 in one year. That’s a large sum
of money, especially if it’s coming out of retirement funds or family assets. Long term care is generally not covered by conventional
health insurance or Medicare; therefore, Long Term Care should become an integral part of your overall retirement and financial
planning, to protect your assets and quality of life.
People of all ages find themselves in long-term care situations due to injury, illness, or other circumstances. Without proper planning, the costs of long-term care can be a serious risk to your financial security. If you’re thinking, “It won’t happen to me” – 40% of
people receiving long-term care services are between the ages of 18 and 64!
Are you caught up in the “sandwich” generation; caring for your own children as well as your parents, and maybe your
grandparents? Along with long term care for you and your spouse, you may also secure long term care for your spouse, your parents,
parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, adult children, and spouses of adult children.
HR Update
How does long term care work?
• You choose a daily maximum benefit amount, options of $100, $150, or $200, which equates to a specific three year Lifetime Benefit Maximum.
• In order to receive the benefits, you must be assessed and confirmed as having a chronic illness or disability, in which
there is either a loss of the ability to perform at least two activities of daily living, or a severe cognitive impairment.
• There will be a one-time 60 day waiting or elimination period.
• Once these criteria have been met, the plan will pay 100% of the daily maximum benefit that you chose, for assisted living facility care, and 75% of the daily maximum that you chose, for home and community based care.
For eligible Yancey employees who elect Long Term Care Insurance for themselves, during our Open Enrollment (August 9 – August 23, 2006), or when first eligible after 90 days of employment, there is guaranteed coverage without medical underwriting. If you
elect coverage for your spouse, parents, or other qualified family members, they will have to qualify by answering a medical questionnaire, and once approved, they will receive the same rates as a Yancey employee. In addition, just by being married, you will receive
a 10% discount, whether or not you elect coverage for both you and your spouse.
In the next few weeks, we will be providing you with additional information on Long Term Care Insurance. In the meantime, assess
your retirement and financial plans for the future and see if Long Term Care Insurance would be an asset for you and your family.

Mr. Bud Wilfore
Yancey Bros. Co.
P.O. Box 43326
Atlanta, GA 30336
Dear Bud,
I know you are aware that Vulcan Materials has different kinds of surveys focused
on supplier quality. They recently sent me the results of a very specific survey they
administered nationally in 2005 concerning their mobile equipment Dealers/Suppliers. The survey has 20 questions which are focused mainly on Product Support
issues. The questions cover things like how well you communicate problems, how
quickly you get a Technician to them when they need one, or if you have a technical
person assigned to their account, etc. etc.
I am delighted to let you know that Yancey was awarded the highest score of any
of the 27 Cat Dealers in NACD that Vulcan does business with. Further more, your
score has improved from a 5.69 in 2003, to a 7.33 in 2004, and finally an 8.51 in
2005. Your dealership was surveyed by 15 Vulcan quarries. This makes your score
even more impressive as the score is not weighted based on the number of surveys.
Some Dealers were only surveyed by 2 or 3 quarries.
I would like to thank you and all your staff who work on this very challenging account. Your dealership is proof that difficult issues can be overcome when we all
really understand those issues and address them as you have done.
Sincerely,
21 June 2006
Dear Mr. “Bud” Wilfore and Mr. Lassiter:
I really appreciate your warm hospitality when I visited your office with Mr.
Phelan on June 14.
I deeply impressed well organized operation in your company through the shop
tour and understood competitive market condition in North America very well
by the presentation. I believe our open discussion and mutual better understandings on each other business and operation will promote our future success
in the earthmoving business.
We, SCM, would like to continue doing our best efforts to serve best products in
quality and performance to your customers.
I wish your further growth and success in your earthmoving business.
We,SCM, welcome your visiting to SCM with important customers in spring or
autumn which are most beautiful seasons in Japan. I am looking forward to seeing you again in future.
Thanks and best regards,

Six Sigma Continues to Grow & Prosper at Yancey
Black Belts Complete DMEDI Training
Our first class of Six Sigma Black Belts (Greg DeWalt, Kim Parker, and Joe Swayne) completed DMEDI training in Chicago early during the year. The DMEDI methodology is used in the creation of a new process as compared to DMAIC methodology which is used in
the improvement of an existing process. Several of the new projects they undertook during 2006 employed the new skills, techniques,
and statistical tools learned in DMEDI training.

"Six Sigma" is a process that
attempts to eliminate variation
and defects in multiple aspects
of business and strives for
perfection.
The Six Sigma
process uses a series of tools,
techniques, & business metrics
that represent the best in quality
and process improvement the minimization of variation
and defects from products,
processes and services to
almost zero. Organizations that
have achieved Six Sigma have
improved their processes so
that they consistently produce
no more than 3.4 defects per
million opportunities. However,
Six Sigma is more than reducing
defects - it is about dramatically
improving the bottom line.
Six Sigma has already changed
the way we think and work at
Yancey Bros. Co. We’re going
to become better than we
already are and further separate
ourselves from our competitors.
In the future our customers won’t
even consider doing business
with others, because they’ll
all recognize and appreciate
what Yancey can provide them
with. We will become the best
equipment dealership in Georgia,
and others will envy us more than
they already do.

Investing in Our Customers' Future Successes
New Facilities
New Facilities Will Provide Higher Levels of Service Across Georgia
“Yancey Bros. Co. must continue to grow so our customers
can continue their growth and
expansion,” says Vic Morris,
Earthmoving's Vice President for
Parts & Service. “We are committed to seeing our customers
grow and succeed, and we’re
making huge investments to insure their future successes.”
Our new Dublin location
opened within the past month
and is located adjacent to I-16
between Macon and Savannah.
Included is a large over-the-road
truck repair and maintenance
shop.
Scheduled to open around
Labor Day, our new South Metro
Atlanta facility is located 1/4 mile
off I-75 in McDonough. This
new facility will house a large
parts warehouse and service
shop for our Earthmoving and
Building Construction Products
divisions, plus a branch of The
Cat Rental Store on site.
Yancey Power Systems has
recently moved into two new facilities. A truck engine service
shop in Macon was opened in
During the early stages of construction in Dublin, (L-R) Rick Cucci (Area Business Manager) , Vic Morris (VP-Product Support), Mark Turner (Centralized Services Manager) and Garland Capps (Metro Service Manager) worked
to fine tune the designs. Pictured below left is the new McDonough facility under construction. McDonough will

April to service over-the-road truckers on the I-75 corridor. This
shop is located two blocks off I-75 at the Pio Nono exit, and it is
only 1/4 mile from the current Yancey Earthmoving branch.
“I’ve been in this business for over 20 years”, adds Morris, “but
I’ve never seen an equipment dealer make these levels of investments and commitments to customer support in such a short period of time”.
Yancey Power constructed a new facility just south of Griffin to
house their generator packaging operations. This facility opened
in early June and is near the Caterpillar generator manufacturing
plant in Griffin. Our new facility was designed and built specifically
for the power generation packaging business and is designed for
maximum production, workflow and storage. Included in the facility
are a pair of twenty-five ton cranes, capable of handling the largest
Caterpillar generators on the market.
“When customers purchase equipment and services from
Yancey, they expect to receive the best after-sales support in the
industry", adds Morris. "Our expansion of facilities across all our
five divisions will allow us to meet the ever-growing list of services
our customers deserve. We are completely dedicated to serving
our customers and helping them solve the challenges they face. If
our customers aren’t successful in their endeavors, then Yancey
Bros. Co. will not be successful.”
