M 2014 MADISON COLLEGE DIGITAL MARKETING SUMMIT DIGITAL MARKETING SUMMIT ENGAGING CONSUMERS IN TODAY’S MARKETPLACE SPEAKERS INCLUDE: SUZANNE FANNING, President, WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) Suzanne Fanning, identified by Forbes in 2013 as “one of social media’s top movers and shakers,” currently serves as the President of the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA). She was selected for this position by top marketers from Intel, Hershey’s, Procter and Gamble, American Express, Nestle, Unilever, Ogilvy, Warner Bros., and others to unite the world’s most innovative companies and help drive the industry forward. Social business strategies she developed for global corporations have been featured in Advertising Age Magazine, Fast Company, Forbes Magazine, and on the cover of PR Week, and published in several renowned marketing books. This year she has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Forbes and Entrepreneur. Her programs have achieved record-breaking results across the board for online and offline engagement as well as sales for several global brands. The Viral Garden called the social media program she developed with Brains on Fire “the best corporate run social media program in existence,” and Forrester ranked her blog in the “Top 20 Corporate Blogs Worldwide.” She received the Individual Excellence Award from her company in Helsinki, Finland, for personally making the biggest impact worldwide on the business, and she has received numerous additional industry awards. Suzanne is also a published author and speaker. She has appeared on CBS news, PBS and TLC and was a presenter at the Daytime Emmys due to her pioneering work in web tv. GARRISON CUMMINGS, Digital Manager, Green Bay Packers Garrison Cummings is the Digital Manager for the Green Bay Packers. His main duties include developing and measuring the Packers’ media strategy across all of the team’s digital platforms. He actualizes strategic initiatives, manages key personnel that produce the video, photo, web and mobile initiatives for the club, generates new ideas and is a gatekeeper between UX and sponsors. When not immersed in the team’s digital and social world, Garrison enjoys hanging out with his family, watching either Game of Thrones or Disney movies, listening to old school rap, and ensuring that Starbucks delivers on their brand promise...daily. MELISSA JOHNSON, Director of Strategic Marketing, Shoutlet, Inc Born in Canada to Irish and British parents, Melissa now calls Wisconsin home with her husband, Tim. She spent the last 7 years focusing on digital and social strategies for clients and companies. Melissa currently leads the strategic marketing team at Shoutlet, developing and ensuring success of marketing initiatives including websites, events, channel marketing, sales enablement, and customer marketing. She also recently joined the Board of Directors for a local non-profit professional group. When she’s not at work, you’ll find Melissa running far, cooking up a new recipe, or traveling as much as her checkbook can handle. She’s also the puppy mama to a black and tan chihuahua, and proud alumna of UW-Madison. Go Badgers! CHRIS STASZAK, Digital Media Consultant, Amplified Digital Chris Staszak has a strong digital business development and B2B sales background and is the lead consultant for the Madison, WI Agency of Amplified Digital. His extensive experience in management and marketing for businesses large and small enables him to bring unique ideas and proven solutions to his clients, designed to reach any marketing objective in the digital space. In addition to web development and design projects, Chris is currently managing digital marketing accounts ranging from local businesses to large, state-wide campaigns in categories including education, state compliance, health care, retail, and food & dining. Chris attended UW Stevens Point, where he majored in Fine Arts, and also studied Computer Science with an emphasis on Web Development and Graphic Arts at UC San Diego. JON KRAMER, Digital Business Developer, Amplified Digital Jon is the Digital Business Developer for Amplified Digital and is dedicated to supporting staff in the sales process. His vast experience and knowledge of digital marketing gives our customers a strategic advantage over their competition. Building a multi-platform approach for businesses in this digital world is vital and Jon is a key player in both the education and strategy to give them success. KEVIN KISER, Director of Marketing, SOLOMO Technology SOLOMO Technology, Inc., a Madison-based startup, provides marketers a platform to reveal new brand experiences for visitors in their physical locations using a combination of analytic dashboards and mobile apps. Leading the marketing team, Kevin is responsible for shaping SOLOMO’s brand strategy, driving customer acquisition and delivering ongoing customer support. Under Kevin’s leadership, the department delivers engaging communications to investors, channel partners and enterprise brands that raises awareness of location-based marketing and showcases the value of SOLOMO’s platform. Prior to SOLOMO, Kevin’s marketing background includes enterprise IT organizations and advertising agencies. Kevin is a Wisconsin native and graduate of UW-Whitewater. STEVE SCHMIDT, Manager, User Experience, Centare Steve Schmidt is a manager within Centare’s development center and leads the user experience department. Steve offers over twenty-one years of design, development and implementation experience for desktop, web, and mobile delivery channels. Steve’s emphasis is in delivering successful user experiences. He has expertise in computer-human interaction design, user research, information architecture and information design, heuristic and expert usability reviews, usability testing, experience strategy, and coaching/training/mentoring. He is passionate about designing successful products that people enjoy using. ABBY DESPINS, Public Relations Manager, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board Abby Despins is the public relations manager for the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, a nonprofit organization of dairy producers that promotes the consumption of milk, cheese and other dairy products made in America’s Dairyland. Here, Abby works on developing and executing national public relations campaigns, media relations activities and social media strategies for the Wisconsin Cheese and Wisconsin Dairy brands. She has more than eight years of experience in public relations and social media, working in a variety of industries in agency, corporate and association roles from large, global corporations to start-ups. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point with a major in Communications and Public Relations. Abby serves on the board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Madison chapter and is an active committee member for the American Heart Association in Madison. She lives with her husband in Madison, Wisconsin. CAROLINE BOHER, Digital Account Director, Kennedy Communications Caroline Bohler is the Digital Account Director for Kennedy Communications, a full-service Madison advertising agency. A University of Wisconsin - Madison graduate, Caroline oversees planning, development and communication for the Kennedy interactive team, ensuring online initiatives exceed client expectations and are delivered on time and budget. Whether they are a new prospect in need of an online marketing plan or a long-term customer with complicated digital issues, Caroline’s is typically the first voice clients hear in the Kennedy interactive department. Away from the office, Caroline is active in the Dinners on Wisconsin alumni program and recently starting serving on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Hardy Plant Society.. J. MICHOL BANES, Marketing Manager, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP President of AMA – Madison Chapter Michol is the Marketing Manager with Baker Tilly, the 12th largest accounting and advisory firm in the US. She is responsible for the banking, capital markets, and insurance industries, as well as assurance services marketing. Within her role, she handles development and implementation of strategic marketing plans, marketing communications, event management, PR, and digital marketing for her teams. Michol is also President of the American Marketing Association Madison Chapter – an association dedicated to connecting marketers and providing opportunities for professional growth. She earned her BS in Education from Indiana University-Kokomo. MARTHA CARRIGAN, President and CEO, Big Shoes Network (BSM) Martha is the President and CEO of Big Shoes Network. She is responsible for the accounting and finance functions of the firm, as well as business development. Prior to BSM, Martha served in a variety of marketing capacities at Manpower Group on Milwaukee, WI. In those roles, she developed, delivered, and sold training curriculum, as well as helped to create business partnerships, proposals, presentations and demonstrations for software and related business services to local, national and international clients. She earned a B.A. in communication from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. In addition, she receive a Certificate for Interactive Marketing from De Paul University. Martha also serves as an advisory board member for AIGA Wisconsin, an alumni ambassador for the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and a mentor for ASK-DePaul Career Mentoring program. She resides in Shorewood, Wisconsin. She has two adult children – Mack and Gil. ALISON KAVANAUGH, Talent Acquisition Specialist, Human Resources, American Family Insurance Alison Kavanaugh is currently a Talent Acquisition Specialist at American Family Insurance. In her role Alison develops and implements effective recruiting strategies in order to attract and select quality candidates and provide an excellent candidate experience. Alison has been with American Family since December of 2011. She previously worked in human resources at both Meriter Medical Group and Dean Health System. Alison has her Bachelor of Arts from UW-La Crosse and Master of Science from UW-Whitewater. HOLLY MERCIER, Marketing Faculty, Madison Area Technical College Holly is an instructor and independent consultant with 20 years of experience. Her primary areas of teaching and consulting expertise are consumer/market research, strategic planning, and organizational improvement. She provides leadership and support in planning customer research efforts, designing research instruments, collecting the data (via methods including but not limited to digital media, focus groups, personal interviews, and questionnaires), analyzing, interpreting and reporting on data, and facilitating the formulation of recommendations based on the data. Holly facilitates the formulation of strategic plans, key initiatives, key result measures, and action plans that are guided by customer needs. Additionally she facilitates learning on a variety of topics including: international marketing, facilitation of diverse groups, general marketing management, and process improvement theory and techniques. Finally, Holly works extensively with study abroad programs at Madison College and leads a student trip to Europe annually. STEVEN BAUER, Director - Search Engine Marketing, Midwest Digital Marketing Steven Bauer has over 13 years of experience managing Search Engine Marketing (SEM) for Fortune 500 companies, large regional businesses and local niche entities with Midwest Digital Marketing. Steven improves bottom-line profits and increases the efficiency and performance of a client’s SEM program through data-driven strategic planning He graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a Comprehensive Degree in Theatre with an emphasis in Design and Directing. Steven was part of the team that developed GO TOAST, one of the first online campaign management tools for Paid Search. While part of the team at GO TOAST, and later with Atlas DMT, he spent time traveling the world, literally, preaching the Gospel of Paid Search, working with agencies and businesses helping them develop strategies to improve their SEM programs. He has been able to put all this practical experience towards earning the honor of saying he is a Google Certified AdWords Professional. Madison College Marketing Advisory Board Member SARAH HECK, Communications Specialist, Sun Prairie Area School District Sarah Heck is entering her ninth year as the Communications Specialist for the Sun Prairie Area School District. In this role, Sarah is responsible for managing communications to school district families and the greater community. Sarah manages the school district website, the electronic messaging system, crisis communications, media relations, community relations, and community engagement activities. Sarah is currently the President Elect of the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association, a statewide association dedicated to school communications. Sarah has worked in the Chicago and Detroit markets in both consumer and B2B marketing for 20+ years. She also served as a public information officer for the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Madison College Marketing Advisory Board Member JENNY SANDERS, Principal and Founder, Sortis Internet Marketing Jenny Sanders, along with her husband Greg, started Sortis Internet Marketing in 1995. They began with a focus on web development back when websites were just emerging as a business tool. Soon their business matured into a full-service Internet marketing agency that continues to evolve in response to the demands of tech-savvy clients and the ever-changing digital world. As a Principal, Jenny manages Business Development, Human Resources and assists her husband in the day-to-day management of their ten-person staff of professionals. Jenny has over 20 years of sales, management and marketing experience with a focus on strategic direction, website/ eCommerce development, search engine optimization and lead nurturing. Jenny enjoys networking, meeting people and volunteering in her community. She is an active member of Downtown Madison Inc, Middleton Chamber of Commerce, EWGA, and many other social and business organizations . Madison College Marketing Advisory Board Member PATRICIA STEMPINSKI, Sales Strategy and Business Planning Manager American Family Insurance Patricia Stempinski is Sales Strategy and Business Planning Manager at American Family Insurance in Madison, Wisconsin where she is responsible for developing and executing sales and marketing strategies for insurance agents in 19 states. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a major in Journalism. Patricia has held several roles including copywriter at Madison Newspapers, marketing specialist at Auto Glass Specialists, creative services and marketing manager at CUNA Mutual Group, and business development manager at Suttle-Straus. Patricia participates in activities with organizations including the American Marketing Association, UW-E-Business Consortium, InBusiness events, The Business Forum, Direct Marketing Association and Social Media Breakfast. Patricia and her family live in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Madison College Marketing Advisory Board Member KRISTIN UTTECH, Marketing Professor, Madison College Kristin has spent over 20 years in leadership positions within corporate marketing. She spent a large part of her career at Penda Corporation as their Director of Marketing Communications where she developed strategic communications plans for current and emerging business units. While at Penda, she was named the Madison Chapter AMA Marketer of the Year as a result of her national consumer co-branded campaign with NASCAR and Craftsman. She was also the Director of Vertical Marketing for Sonic Foundry where she targeted corporate and higher education markets to drive sales of Mediasite, a leading webcasting technology. She is now a Marketing Professor for Madison College. While at Madison College, she has been instrumental in launching both the Social Media Certificate and Mobile Marketing Certificate. She has developed a wide variety of classes on Innovation, Social Media, and Mobile Marketing. She recently completed a mini-MBA from Rutgers University in Mobile Marketing. She also has a BA from UW-Eau Claire and a MBA from Marquette University. She is currently completing coursework toward a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership.
