Why Pleasanton is a great place to live and work
T
ax season
is upon
us. It’s
that time of the
year when we
spend an inordinate amount
of time fretting
over how much Matt De Pretis
Chairman
of our hard 2016
of the Board
earned income
we will hand over to the taxman.
So, now may be an appropriate
time to see if we can learn anything from the tax statistics the
Internal Revenue Service maintains on Pleasanton residents.
According to the U.S. Treasury’s
Statistics of Income Program
(SOI), over 35,000 individual
income tax returns were filed
in Pleasanton for tax year 2013
showing collective gross income
of nearly $5.2 billion. Pleasanton
residents paid about $1 billion in
federal income tax alone that year.
This number does not include
state income taxes, payroll taxes,
property taxes, sales tax, or tax
built into products such as gasoline, alcohol, etc.
In spite of all of these taxes
and other demands on our wallets, the SOI data also show that
Pleasanton is a very generous
community. Together we gave
away over $83 million to charitable causes in 2013. But this
amount only represents part of the
story. Each year our citizenry also
donate a staggering number of
hours of their own time to charities, churches, schools, service
groups, commissions and numerous other non-profit organizations
benefiting society.
This is why Pleasanton is such a
wonderful place to live and work.
Our willingness to help others is
the secret to our success.
The Pleasanton Chamber of
Commerce celebrates this goodwill by organizing a community
service award ceremony each
year. Since 1963 the Chamber
has been recognizing the generosity of our citizens and honoring people who make a difference in our community. Business
philanthropy, distinguished individual achievement, and lifetime achievement are among the
awards presented.
The 53rd Annual Community
Service Awards will be held at
the Firehouse Arts Center on
Wednesday, March 23, 2016. This
will be a fun evening when we can
forget about taxes and celebrate
good people doing great things in
our community. I look forward to
seeing you there!

Noting the longevity of service
from their employees, Eichler realizes the continuity in service goes

Helping Seniors When
They Need A Little Extra Help
ast Bay Assisted Living
Services was founded
because navigating the
assisted living and memory care
landscape can be daunting and
time consuming. It is truly great
that there are so many choices
when it comes to choosing a community that offers assistance. The
Bay Area alone has over 10,000
assisted living homes when you
include the residential homes that
are licensed by the state to provide assistance. When a family
member needed to move to an
assisted living home three years
ago and we discovered how difficult it can be to separate the great
homes from the average, all while
trying to work full time jobs, I
decided that there was a real need
for a service to guide families
through the process.
Think of East Bay Assisted
Living Services as your local
expert when it comes to finding the ideal assisted living community. They personally assess
every senior to determine which
community will be the best fit
for their personality and social
preferences. They arrange a time
to accompany the family to three
homes where the family can tour
the home, meet the other residents, meet the caregivers, meet
the owners and get a feel for
whether the home is a good fit.
So, instead of visiting dozens of
homes and spending countless
hours researching where they are
and which ones are the best, their
program has greatly expedited the
entire process.
You’re probably asking yourself, “How much does this service
that is going to save me time
and money and make the entire
experience much more enjoyable
cost?” Since we realize paying
for assisted living can be a financial burden on families, East Bay
Assisted Living Services refuses
to add another charge onto these
families in need. Their service is
100% free to the families as they
get a marketing fee from the communities. They are there every
step of the way to help with the
paperwork, the move-in, and then
they check-in monthly to ensure
everything is as great as it can be.
They have helped hundreds of
families and would love to help
yours too. Visit their website
eastbayssistedlivingservices.com
and sign up for a free newsletter that will provide you with
valuable information regarding
assisted living and memory care.

Evaluating drone video: [from right] Gary Bosley, “dronemaster” Paul Richard, and Omega Video’s Thomas Herzog.
Drone Videography = Expanding Horizons
“Television commercials are
undergoing a sea change in their
ability to communicate information
about specific businesses, homes,
or anything with large dimensions.”
This is according to Gary Bosley,
president of Marketing Solutions
Group (MSG), a Pleasanton-based
ad agency, which specializes in TV
commercials. The agency recently
filmed a commercial, using drones,
for an artificial turf company in
Contra Costa County. The commercial aired in that Comcast zone.
According to Bosley, getting an
FAA certified, and fully- insured
company, to provide the drone photography was the key to accessing
drone capabilities.
Bosley founded the company in
2002 and joined the Pleasanton
Chamber of Commerce in March
of that year. He says, “MSG creates television advertising for companies and organizations seeking
to expand their business. MSG

national networks - whether broadcast, cable,
or satellite TV.”
The original focus of its TV commercial
business was in the San Joaquin Valley, in the
Tracy, Modesto, and Sacramento Comcast
zones. The company has since aired commercials on other cable provider’s networks,
up and down California.
In addition to doing commercials for businesses, Marketing Solutions Group has done
commercials for the Pleasanton Chamber
of Commerce, the Pleasanton Downtown
Association, the City of Tracy, and the
Walnut Creek Visitors Bureau among others.
On its website, www.MarketingSolutions
Group.biz there are checklists that explain
how to build a TV campaign, how to build
a commercial, and other considerations for
using the medium. There is also a video
portfolio of commercials on the site, which
show many different types of businesses.
In addition, Bosley points out that probably the least understood part of using TV
commercials is the size of budget necessary
to access TV. He says, “It usually comes as
a surprise, just how reasonable a budget can
be.” The “kicker” he says, is that Comcast’s
computers can tell an advertiser extremely
close as to exactly what exposure will be
attained by running a number of commercials
in a given Comcast zone, over a certain period of time on any set of networks (channels).
In other words, “X” budget will give “Y”
exposure -- to whatever target demographic
(women, men, homeowners, high income,
etc.) is plugged into the computer.
