*** NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS FRIDAY, 9/20***
***ALL BUILDINGS AND BOE OFFICE CLOSED ON 9/20***
Superintendent’s Message
John P. Kronour, PhD.
Students have a day off from school on Friday and all buildings are closed to the
public for an important in-service training program. Teachers will focus on OTES,
the new Ohio Teacher Evaluation System. Each educator will map out a Professional
Growth Plan designed to accelerate and continue teacher growth through professional
development. They also will work collaboratively to establish SLOs or Student
Learning Objectives. These are measureable, long-term academic growth targets for
students or groups of students. In addition, according to the state, it demonstrates a
teacher’s impact on learning. This system is designed to provide teachers positive
feedback and support to become even better at what they do and make a difference for students.
Congratulations To Tipp’s National Merit Semifinalist!
Congratulations to Tippecanoe High School senior Samantha
Boniface for being named a National Merit Semifinalist. This honor
recognizes the nation’s most academically talented high school
seniors. Sam is among approximately 16-thousand Semifinalists in
the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, an honor earned
by less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors! She has an
opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit
Scholarships, worth more than $32 million. Advanced Placement US
History Teacher Joe Bellas says, “Sam has a work ethic second to
none. She is extremely inquisitive, ambitious and dependable and
readily accepts the challenges of difficult curriculum.”
CONGRATULATIONS to the Tippecanoe High School Academic Quiz Team for its strong showing at the
Ezell-Harding High School Tournament in Nashville, TN. Leading the team to a 5-2 record were Laurel
Spangler, Alisha Bhagwat, Joshua Bellas, Erin Gauthier, Ermias Kebede and Erin Ricketts. Tipp finished ninth
out of 53 teams, in a strong nationals-caliber field. Congratulations to the quiz team on a great start to the season!
CONGRATULATIONS to Tippecanoe High School Senior Margo Shininger for being named the 2013 Mum
Festival Queen! She also won the talent competition in the annual Tipp City Mum Festival Queens Pageant.

during the one-day event and the band earned a profit of $6,000!
L.T. (Learning Together) Day will be honored on Friday, October 4 at LT Ball Intermediate School. LT Ball is
looking for presenters who can provide hands-on and interactive sessions. Students will have the opportunity to
spend 40 minutes exploring six different professions, trades, or hobbies. If you have questions or are interested in
participating in this EPIC rewarding day, please call Mrs. Conley at 669-6324 or download the information sheet
from her web page.
An Eye-Opening Experience
Broadway Elementary students got a lesson in eye health and safety.
Renee Rambeau OD, a local optometrist and Tippecanoe High School
graduate, presented Realeyes. In the 45-minute presentation, a detective
engages students to solve an optical illusion mystery using a "case
packet." Concepts presented include eye safety, the vision process,
symptoms of eye disorders and the importance of eye exams. In the photo
to the left, Abbi McClurg, attempts to keep one eye shut during one of the
event’s activities to promote lifelong vision.
Character Club
Broadway Elementary Principal, Galen Gingerich, introduced his students to the school’s Character Club, a
program aimed at promoting positive behavior. This month’s focus was on computer use and internet safety. He
reminded children not to give out names or other personal information when on-line. In the bottom left photo,
Stanley Cline pays close attention to the advice, as do the girls in the right photo.
LT Ball Welcomes New Students
Fourth and fifth graders who are new to Tipp City Exempted Village Schools enjoyed a “Red Devil” welcome and
pizza luncheon. LT Ball Intermediate School guidance counselor, Tammy Conley, organizes the annual event to
make the new students feel welcome and help them be acquainted with each other. The informal gathering also
gives the children a chance to learn more about the district. The new students come from as far away as New
Zealand and as close as our neighboring towns. They say the love it here!
TMS STEM CLUB
Twenty-six students attended the TMS STEM Club. The after-school club is open to any middle school student
who enjoys math and science. This year's theme will focus on airplanes, rockets, gliders and forces of motion. In
the photo to the left, Trevor Bollinger and Connor Lake learn even a calculator cannot help them solve one of the
day’s problems. To the right, Jessica Break and Kirsten Hartke work on constructing a rocket they will “blast off”
using a straw.

CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!
Sometimes it takes special situations to turn around a season and we hope this is that situation. After starting the
season 1-5, the Red Devils decided to display "The Red Devil Way” by winning the Miamisburg HS
Invitational Tournament. The team played with a lot of emotion, displayed high energy (you could feel
it), put the pressure on their opponents and did not fold during critical situations. Pictured above is the winning
team. Front row from left to right: Kara Trimbach, Hannah Budding, Jess Walland, Emily Layman, Katherine
Shirley, Sidney Roemke. Back row standing up from left to right: Head Coach Howard Garcia, Halee Printz,
Laura Rosselit, Coletta Seemen, Erin Jans, Aubrey Cox, Kristen Shroyer, and Alyssa Crusey.
“Diggin For A Cure”
Members of the Tippecanoe Middle School
volleyball team are gearing up for
Wednesday’s special game. The girls are
hosting “Diggin For a Cure” to raise breast
cancer awareness and funds for Pink Ribbon
Girls of Dayton. During lunch Monday
through Wednesday, the team is selling the
t-shirts being modeled by Isabelle Crow and
Brooke Aselage in the photo to the left.
Any person wearing the t-shirt will be
admitted to the game free. Each shirt is $10.
The first game starts at 5:30 p.m. at the
TMS gymnasium

Help a Child Learn to Read
Project MORE is in need of volunteers who have an hour or two of time each week to help a student
with reading. Project MORE, a research-based reading mentoring program, is extremely successful in
our district. Each mentor is trained, provided a clear lesson plan with instructional materials and
matched with a student. The New Mentor Information and Training Session, for kindergarten and first
grade volunteers ONLY, is scheduled for Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. -11:00 a,m. at
Nevin Coppock. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Johnson at [email protected] or
Mrs. Manes at [email protected]. You may also call the Nevin Coppock office at 667-2275.
We cannot do Project MORE without our wonderful volunteers.
AHOY Mates! International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
On Thursday, September 19, the library will offer its own celebration of
pirate-speak with an after-school program for grades K to 3 at 4:30 p.m.
Little buccaneers will make pirate-themed crafts, listen to stories, and
search for hidden pirate booty.
Register by call the library at 667-3826
