“Rest is the best medicine”. But it is not a good idea to
simply rest and wait for back pain to subside. Too much
rest also causes certain type of back pain and worsens the
existing low back pain. Prolonged rest decreases the
muscle strength and minimises the flexibility of the back.
Hence, regular exercise is the prompt idea to relieve the
back pain by stretching and strengthening back muscles.
The exercises narrated here are general pattern
of exercises to relieve the back pain in elders with
common degenerative cause. If it is not possible to do all
exercises at one stretch, do the stretching exercises with
warm up practice in the morning and strengthening
procedures in the evening session. Whenever you are
going for exercises, start with warm up and conclude with
relaxation.
Keep ever in mind “Activity is often the best
medicine for back pain”. Be active as much as possible
and be free from back pain always !
Wait for further steps to move…..
ENERGY CONSERVATION IN
INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT
INNOVATIONS under development by S.Rajendran
 Design of equipment for coach movement inside Fur:
by Sri S.RAJENDRAN, Tech-1/Shop85
 Cost approximately Rs. 2,00,000/ Concept by Shri.V.Kalyanasundaram, Dy.CME/Shell
 Waiting for CAD drawing
Ph:8056250489
Energy conservation in an industrial environment is
different from that in a domestic environment. In a
household, the benefits of energy savings are directly
enjoyed by the family, whereas in an industry, the
employee who implements energy conservation
techniques may not be benefitted directly. Hence, more
innovative methods with minimum human intervention
need to be deployed in an industry to reap maximum
energy savings. Some of the methods that can be
deployed in an industry are discussed below.
 Speed breaker indicator for vehicles such as Two
wheelers and Four wheelers
 Solar powered emergency light in Fur.
 Low cost (Approx Rs.32000 per shed)
 Trouble-free
 Advance fault indicator
 Auto SMS to officer concerned
Water level indicator & controller
1.A common pattern easily understandable by all
employees should be followed in positioning control
switches for lights, fans, air circulators etc. The access
to the switch boards should not be obstructed by
dumping material/scrap items.
 High safety
 Low cost (approx Rs300 per number)
 Maintenance-free
INNOVATIONS in IDEA Stage
2.All air circulators shall be provided with auto cut-off
switches which will switch off the fan after a session
time like 3 or 4 hrs.
 Improved passenger facilities in coaches
3.Thermostat settings in AC, Geyser, Water cooler etc.
shall be kept at optimum level, and its healthy
functioning shall be ensured through periodical
checking.
4.Energy consumption for lighting load, fan load &
machinery load shall be monitored separately for each
section and concerned employees should be rewarded
suitably for energy savings in their area against some
set norms.
5.Machine operators shall be educated to switch off the
control supply after operation as it consumes
considerable energy in the long run. For this purpose,
power switches should be positioned in an easily
accessible location.
6.Wherever day shift working is in vogue, solar panels
with online inverters could be used as an alternate
economic source of energy.
7.Whenever a load test is conducted on power sources
like battery, alternator etc., the output power generated
can be used for feeding regular loads through suitable
regulators/inverters.
8.Motion sensors should be used in office cabins and
toilets to turn off power devices when not used.
Similarly, power supply to computers and other office
equipment shall be turned off during non-working
hours.
9.Timers shall be used in water coolers and geysers to
turn them off during weekly holidays.
 Prior indication of electrical fire in coaches
Already developed and implemented
 Solar powered Coach number indication board &
Reservation chart light for Southern Railway.
 Solar powered PFT for ICF
 Reverse indication for coaches at BBQ
 Hooter at shop30 using remote for shunting staff
 In order to create and promote awareness about the
facility, IRCTC has come out with a novel scheme of
distributing free meals (standardised Indian Vegetarian
meal) to 100 passengers (one meal per PNR) per week
(every Friday) in Chennai Central railway station starting
from 19th August for a period of one month for
passengers who have booked e-tickets.
 All MPs and former MPs will soon be given a unique
identity to help them book train tickets and end any
“misuse” in multiple bookings. MR said in Lok Sabha till
now, a Member of Parliament can at the same time make
multiple bookings in different trains bound for different
destinations and there is no mechanism to find out in
which train the MP actually travelled.
 Indian Railways will do away with the practice of
deploying guards at the rear-end of coaches of goods
trains as it is installing a new system to ensure all coaches
and wagons remain intact when a train is in motion. The
end of train telemetry (EoTT), a device that aims to
establish communication between the locomotive driver
and the last vehicle of the train, will be fitted in the last
coach or wagon of a train.
10.Awareness programmes on energy conservation shall
be conducted periodically for departmental staff as well
as contract labourers, as facilities are used by both.
 Railway Board has floated expression of interest for
introduction of Maglev, a second generation high speed
train in India, which is running in China, Japan, Germany
and South Korea at present.
Such steps with participation of all concerned will help in
forming an organisational culture which will be followed
by future generations also.
 To book your meal online: download mobile app “Food
on Track” or Log on to www.ecatering irctc.co.in or
SMS “Meal <space> PNR” to 139 or Dial 1323.
The Wuppertal Suspension Railway
The Wuppertal
Suspension
Railway
(German:
Wuppertaler
Schwebebahn)
is
a suspension
railway in Wuppertal, Germany.
Its full name is "Electric Elevated Railway (Suspension
Railway) Installation, Eugen Langen System". It is the
oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the
world and is a unique system.
Designed by Eugen Langen to sell to the city of Berlin,
the installation with elevated stations was built
in Barmen, Elberfeld andVohwinkel between 1897 and
1903; the first track opened in 1901. The Schwebebahn is
still in use today as a normal means of local public
transport, moving 25 million passengers annually.
The suspension railway runs along a route of 13.3
kilometres, at a height of about 12 metres above the
river Wupper between Oberbarmen and Sonnborner
Straße (10 kilometres) and about 8 metres above the
valley road between Sonnborner Straße and Vohwinkel
(3.3 kilometres). At one point the railway crosses
the A46 motorway. The entire trip takes about 30
minutes. The Wuppertal Suspension Railway operates
within the VRR transport association and accepts tickets
issued by the VRR companies.
