Electronic Scanner
Description
The AIML-4016 programmable relay scanner from Aimlite Controls allows users to control 16
mechanical or electronic relays. Four independent inputs can be assigned to control them all. Up to
3 relays can be connected to each input, for a maximum of 48 relays per scanner. All configurations
are performed directly on the scanner with push buttons.

Applications
1. Typically, the AIML-4016 relay scanner is used to control the lighting of multiple zones
simultaneously. !e inputs can be programmed to operate one or several relays.
2. M
any control devices like programmable time clocks, photocells, motion detectors, dry-contact
switches or low-voltage switches with status feedback can be connected to inputs.
3. L e AIML-4016 relay scanner is designed to be programmed on location. Push buttons with LEDs
directly on the board allow for easy programming.
4. F or large-scale applications, it can interconnect up to 4 AIML-4016 scanners, giving control over
64 outputs from 16 configurable inputs.
5. Compatible with BACnet, MODBUS, DMX and LON communication protocols (when added to a
communication interface).

Operation
When the panel loses power, no changes occur on the relay. Local or network commands are no
longer possible.
When the panel recovers power, no changes occur on the relay. If the generator contact is close the
emergency signal wil be sent after the 5 seconds delay
When the panel is powered and the emergency contact is present an ON command will be sent the
relay programmed to switch ON in emergency mode.
The timer can be adjusted with the center potentiometer.
Factory defaut setting is 10s, 5/10, Functions « A ».

Aimlite Controls offers completely integrated lighting control solutions with its proprietary multipurpose energy management software and the latest in DALI dimming control and individual fixture
addressability technology.
Digitally addressable lighting has been gradually emerging as an effective means of controlling
lighting environments, be they commercial, industrial or residential.
Individual control of light sources allows users to adjust the amount of light delivered to each device
at their discretion, depending on changing lighting conditions and needs throughout the day. Correct
light management translates into significant reductions in global energy consumption and costs,
especially in commercial spaces where even a marginal decrease in lighting intensity can yield
considerable savings and a rapid ROI over the long run.
A complete lighting control system includes addressable dimming ballasts, sensors and
switches and a digital control unit for converting information from an Ethernet connection to the
communication protocol required by the micro-controller in each ballast.

DUAL TECHNOLOGY
Dual technology occupancy sensors combine both passive infrared (PIR) and
ultrasonic (US) technologies for maximum reliability. Because US and PIR
need to both detect occupancy to turn lighting on, dual technology sensors
minimize the risk of lights coming on when the space is unoccupied—false
triggering. Continued detection by only one technology then keeps lighting on
as necessary. Dual technology sensors offer the best performance for most applications.
ULTRASONIC (US)
Ultrasonic (US) technology senses occupancy by bouncing sound waves (32
kHz – 45 kHz) off of objects and detecting a frequency shift between the
emitted and reflected sound waves. Movement by a person or object within a
space causes a shift in frequency, which the sensor interprets as occupancy.
While US occupancy sensors have a limited range, they are excellent at
detecting even minor motion such as typing and filing, and they do not require an unobstructed lineof-sight. This makes US technology sensors ideal for an application like an office with cubicles or a
restroom with stalls.
PASSIVE INFRARED (PIR)
Passive infrared (PIR) technology senses occupancy by detecting the
movement of heat emitted from the human body against the background
space. Unlike US technology, PIR sensors require an unobstructed line-ofsight for detection. These sensors use a segmented lens, which divides the
coverage area into zones. Movement between zones is then interpreted as
occupancy. PIR sensors are ideal for detecting major motion (e.g. walking),
and they work best in small, enclosed spaces with high levels of occupant movement.

equipped with an RS-485 communication port that supports various protocols, such as BACnet
MSTP.

Operation Modes: Manual or Timed

Once the button is pressed :
ffThe relay contact closes and the GREEN LED will stay ON for 3 seconds.
ffTo shut off the AIMTMR, press the button again. !e relay will open (goes to OFF position) and the
GREEN LED will blink 3 times.
Note : There is no time limit on manual mode.
Timed
Once the button is pressed :
ffThe AIMTMR timer start counting base on the jumper selection (see chart on previous page), the
GREEN LED will illuminate for 3 seconds.
ffIf the button is pressed when the timer is in action, the relay will open (to OFF position) and the
GREEN LED will blink for 3 times. !is terminates the timing cycle.
ff10 minutes before the last count, the GREEN LED will start blinking steadily (one blink each
second) until the unit goes to OFF position. If the button is pressed again during this time period,
the unit overrides the remaining minutes and a new timing cycle will start -the relay will remain
closed (ON position)
When the timer has expired (see chart on previous page), the GREEN LED will go OFF. The relay will
then open (going to OFF Position).
Battery Level Monitoring
Within each of the above modes, the AIMTMR constantly monitors batteries power level.
Battery conditions are displayed by the DUAL COLOR LED
