Horse Races & Chili Feed
Jan. 22 • 5:00 pm • Auditorium • $7
The Annual Horse Races & Chili Feed, sponsored by
the Astronomy Club, takes place THIS month! For
those of you who are new to RCE, it’s one of the
most popular and well-attended of our traditions.
In order to make the Horse Races a success, we
need “groomers,” “horses,” and “owners.” Towards this end, a prequel to the Horse Races will
take place at Wednesday coffee on Jan. 13th where
race “horses” and Sky Boxes will be auctioned by
Mr. Mike Yarema from the Gaslight Theatre. Be the
highest bidder, and win one of six coveted stick
horses to enter into the horse races. Dress it up
any way you like. On the day of the race, you can
jockey your horse yourself, or appoint a jockey!
Horses advance on the “racecourse” according to
Bingo ball draws, and prizes are awarded to the
winners. Competition is fierce! Owners will stop at
nothing to win, and bettors are wildly loyal to their
horses!
Alberto Galli Concert
Jan. 16 • 7:00 pm • Aud • $7
Albert Galli performs extensively as a soloist playing the clarinet, soprano sax, and singing. Customized back-up tracks make his music sound like a full
ensemble.
Enjoy Dixieland, swing, big band tunes, pop, and
rock. Galli is a frequent guest artist for Club Med
and other resorts, both nationally and internationally. In addition to live performances, he has released 4 CD’s that are getting excellent reviews
and have been featured on numerous radio stations. You’ll love his music and he’ll make you
laugh. Purchase tickets in the Activity Office for $7.
Whether you have a horse in the race or not, you
are welcome to attend the races on Jan. 22nd and
“bet” on your favorite horses. A delicious cornbread and chili dinner will
be served at 5:00 pm. The
races will begin at 6:00 pm.
Come dressed as your derby alter ego! You won’t be
the only one! Read more

The RCE Ambassadors
I’m OK
Here at RCE we want to make sure
you are A-OK! The “I’m Okay Club”
is a program for guests and residents who are living alone.
Once you sign up with the Activity Office, you
must call in daily before 10:00 am. This is just a da
ily check-in by phone that allows us to make sure
you are OK. If you don’t call in by 10:00 am, we
will try and reach you. If we’re unsuccessful, we
will come to your house and check on you. Please
stop by the Activity Office for sign-up and instructions. We look forward to seeing you.
New to Tucson or Rincon Country East?
Rincon Country East has a wonderful group of
resident volunteers who dedicate their time to
welcoming and helping newcomers just like you.
By the time you read this, you may have already
been greeted by one of our Parking Ambassadors who escort guests to their sites.
As an RCE newcomer, you are invited to attend a
free program run by our Orientation Ambassadors. Learn from long-time RCE residents where
you can find the best places to shop, eat out,
and sightsee in the Tucson and surrounding area. Learn where to find the nearest grocery
store, post office, RV supply store, and other
places you may wish to visit during your stay.
Speed Limit
Keep us speed bump free! Please observe
the 10-mph speed limit inside the park.
AED Device & 911 Phone
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device and 911 Emergency phone are located in the
Breezeway near the office.
The Orientation Ambassadors are a great resource if you want to get an insider’s scoop
about RCE facilities, clubs, and activities. Attend
an orientation, and you’ll make new friends and
feel at home at Rincon Country East in no time.
Meet Your Clubs
Orientations take place every Saturday morning
after Club Coffee (about 9:30 am) in the Fireside
Lounge. Walk-ins are welcome!
Jan. 21 • 2:00 pm • Auditorium • Free
Have you always wanted to learn about Astronomy? Have you been meaning to learn
how to play pickleball? On Thursday, Jan.
21st, representatives from various RCE
clubs will be set up in the Auditorium with
samples of their crafts and other club information. Take the opportunity to meet
members. Learn what the clubs have to
offer you. Club representatives will be happy to tell you about their groups and answer any questions you may have.
About RCE Food Events:
BYOS “Green” Initiative
Please be advised that unless otherwise noted,
ALL breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and other food

Tucson Clean & Beautiful
Tuesdays* • 9:00 am • RCE Entrance
George O’Leary
Resort Owner
Have you noticed how nice and clean the road is
outside of Rincon Country East? That’s because
a wonderful crew of RCE volunteers keep it that
way! *Every other Tuesday at 9:00 am, the volunteer crew meets at the RCE gate and works
for about an hour and a half.
A Word From George
Sandra joins me in thanking all of you for choosing Rincon Country as your home away from
home each winter. Some of you have been coming here for over 20 years. A few have been with
us in RCE around 34 years and a few in RCW for
over 30 years.
Our crew needs help. Can you commit once a
month or more to giving a hand to help keep our
streets clean? All equipment is provided. If interested, please contact George Koss at 520-885-3410 or Don Nibbe at 520-334-9342.
The new year is traditionally a time for new beginnings. In the words of Mother Theresa, "Let
us always meet each other with a smile, for the
smile is the beginning of love." From our house
to yours, have a Happy and Healthy 2016!
Greetings and welcome to Rincon Country East
2016. Can you believe that 2015 is gone? The
time just flies around here with all of the Escape
to the Islands activities and more than 50 clubs
in full swing.
A Thank You from Judy
Here is a big thank you to all of our volunteers!
There isn’t a day that goes by that someone
doesn’t come into the Activity Office and offer to
help in an area that needs attention. These are
our silent volunteers. You do jobs when sometimes, I didn’t know the job needed to be done…
but you recognized it. You, the residents of RCE,
are the most giving and honorable people
around, and I thank you so much for your dedication. You are what makes this resort so great.
This note is for you, and YOU know who you are.
I thank you. I am sure I don’t say that enough. It
is people like you that make my position here at
RCE so gratifying and fun to come to each day.
We are so lucky to have many new residents this
year. Please try to wear your name tags so we
can get to know each other.
Our hope for you is that your 2016 is safe, happy, and fun. When the park is so full, please remember to drive the speed limit and pick up after your puppies. Most of all, enjoy yourself!
If you have questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to come by the office. The staff is always here for you.

A Message From Your Activity Director
A very Happy New Year to all of you. Many wishes for a happy and
healthy 2016. Ah, a new year, it brings hope, a clean slate, and so much
more. For us here at RCE, it is a rush of activities, great weather, and
plans to be a better person. Some of us resolve not to waste energy,
save water, recycle, lose weight, exercise more, and the list just does not
stop. Hmm, should I ride my bike, take up hiking, learn a new craft, or
hone my Bocce skills? Pickleball sounds fun… I know I would love to quilt
more… but then there are those sawmill guys who offer a whole new
adventure. There are many bus tours for this new year. Several new
clubs have started, and we want to do it all. The theatre group is working
Judy Sinkular
on their new show for March. Our overnight trips continue to be popular
Activity Director
to the point that we ordered a second bus just for the West park. Thank
you so much for your participation. Look for a Cabaret night coming soon with RCE residents highlighting
their talents.
The Activity Office is currently selling tickets for the Gaslight Theatre presentation of “Cisco Kid.” The
seating is limited, so hurry! Our Annual Horse Races and Chili Feed is on Jan. 22nd. The sky boxes will be
auctioned at Wednesday coffee on Jan. 13th, featuring Mr. Mike Yarema from the Gaslight Theatre. Murder in Margaritaland, our second annual murder mystery night, is also a fun night of murder, suspicion,
and clues. Enjoy the Desert Breakfast, Taco Tuesdays and Karaoke, or the Newman’s Brown Bag Forum.
Wear Rincon & Win starts again this month, so make a trip to the RCE Gift Shop and let Joyce show you
around. Don’t forget. Show your Rincon spirit with a Rincon Country hat or t-shirt and you might win a
nice prize. Please remember to wear your name tag. For the residents who have been at the resort for a
while, there are many new faces this year. I encourage everyone to wear your name tag. If you do not
have one, the office will handle that for a mere $2.00. Wearing your name tag helps everyone.
***Michael P & The Gully Washers return on Jan 7th 6:30 for our first 2016 Dance. This dance is immediately following the Sawmill Ham & Bean Soup Dinner. **Sabre Faulk & Ambur Norgaurd will be here on
Jan. 24th during the Ice Cream Social. These shows on the 7th and 24th are a do not miss type show. Michael P and his gang are sure show
We had a great gathering of puppies and owners at our very first Jingle Bell
Pet Parade. Jake, owned by Cheryl, was a real character. He won Best Puppy.
Bella, owned by Karen, won Best Dressed. The group was very lively and
loved the gathering and the grass. Shhhhhh… don’t tell George!
The 2015 year was just too much fun here at RCE, but hang on now, 2016 has
the appearance of being, bigger, better, faster and prettier! Karen, our volunteers, and myself look forward to being in the midst of it!
**Waist Management: Speaking of bigger, better, faster and prettier, that is
where I find myself at this time of year. There are others in this category, so
here is my offer: meet up in the Fireside Lounge Monday, Jan. 4th at 3:30 pm
for our first Rincon Country Waist Management class. We will discuss exercise, diet, and how to get back to a manageable size. Come hear what we can
do for each other at Waist Management. Start the New Year out right,
whether you want to lose 5 lbs or 105 lbs.

Mr. Mike Yarema, from the Gaslight Theatre, will
be on-site at Wednesday coffee on Jan. 13th to
auction off the Horses & Sky Boxes for the Horse
Races & Chili Feed on Jan. 22nd. Mark these two
dates on your calendar! When Judy asked Mike to
be the auctioneer, she was pretty sure he had no
idea what would be involved with the mission, but
as a natural “ham,” he is sure to be up to the task.
The taco plate includes 2 tacos (ground beef or
chicken), refried beans, rice, and condiments.
Join us for a 5:00 pm dinner, and enjoy salsa and

also have your own runner who will bring your
dinner, place your “bets,” and deliver your winnings to you!

As a guest, you will receive a wad of “cash!” You
can spend the money at Margaritaland any way
you like. Caution: despite the best efforts of Sergeant Lord (aka Karen Barta), Margaritaland is
an unruly resort. Thieving and trickery is rampant! There is no right or wrong way to play the
game. Just relax as your character and have fun!
Our buffet dinner will include a juicy cheeseburger in paradise, mixed fruit, baked beans, orange
fluff salad, and dessert. We will also serve frozen
virgin margaritas! Bring your own tequila, and
we’ll provide the swizzle sticks to stir it in!
Murder in Margaritaland
Jan. 30 • 6:00 pm • Aud • $10
Somewhere in the tropics between the Port of
Indecision and Southwest of Disorder, you’ll find
murder meets mayhem and intrigue begins.
Tickets include dinner, margaritas, and the mystery party! To sign up for your character, contact
Judy in the Activity Office.
While most vacation at Margaritaland, an exclusive tropical island resort, to get away from their
troubles, for one unfortunate soul, it will mean
the end of their travels altogether. Has the lottery winner’s luck run out? Will it be the bartender who has served his last drink? Is the honeymoon over for the newlyweds before it even
began? Or will the stars collide for one Hollywood superstar? There is still time for you to be
one of the 100 costumed characters who will be
immersed in a shocking murder mystery in
“Margaritaland” on Jan. 30th.
To participate, choose a character from the character list in the Activity Office. You’ll receive an
exclusive invitation with some background information that further describes “who you are” the
night of the dinner party. Just dress the part and
show up! This is NOT a show. There is NO script
and there are NO lines to rehearse or remember!
Gaslight Theatre
“The Cisco Kid”
Jan. 14 • 7:00 pm • Gaslight Theatre • $16
It’s 1810, and revolution is in the air. In New
Spain, folks aren’t happy with the unruly rule of
the French. Into this charged atmosphere steps
Francisco de la Corazon, ready to reclaim his
family’s estate. Greedy relatives aren’t ready to
let that happen. To get what he wants, he has to
break the law, but when the law is so unlawful,
what’s a caballero to do?
At the party, everyone will receive a prominent
name tag and a few simple objectives. Your objec-tive, for example, might instruct you to “go
con-sole Lifesavin’ Sam about his break-up with
Kylie Cocktail.” As everyone mingles at the party
com-pleting their objectives, some key suspects
of a murder will begin to be revealed! Any of the
guests could turn out to be the victim, or you
might find that YOU are being accused of murder!
Don’t miss this fun, live theatre show. Doors
open at 6:15 pm. The show starts at 7:00 pm.
The Activity Office has a limited number of tickets available for purchase. There is no shuttle for
this event.

others are organized by clubs. You are welcome to join any of the clubs and other activities
listed alphabetically in the following pages.
Astronomy Club
500 Card Game
If you look down and see earth, and
look up and see the stars, you have
the skills needed to be a stargazer.
Whether you are a seasoned 500 player or you
are a newbie, meet us in
the Rec. Hall every Saturday evening at 7:00 pm for
a great game. You must be
signed up in the Coffee Room by noon on Saturday. We typically play until 9:30 pm. Play will
continue through April 15th.
One of our first events is to host the Horse Races
and Chili Feed. That means a lot of work with
good benefits. I am hopeful you will see this announcement and come running. We hope to see
you there in the Fireside Lounge on January 2nd
at 11:30 am. We will discuss some of the bus trips
to a variety of observatories in the area, as well
as fundraising for our new club. We will work towards having our own viewing area with facilities
where we can bring our telescopes to view the
night sky.
If you are looking for a fun card game and a
great bunch of players, then show up on Saturday evening and join in the fun. See you then!
For questions:
We are fortunate to winter in a location that has
warm, dry winter weather and many clear nights
for stargazing. The area also has a number of
great viewing and teaching sites such as the universities’ Mt. Lemmon area, Kitt Peak, and private sites like the one in Benson. The Activity
Office is working to set up a number of these activities for us to attend.

Bocce Club
The 2015-2016 bocce season got under way with
the November Fun League. With many teams
already registered, games were played Monday
through Thursday afternoons until the week before Christmas. The Fun League provides a fun
atmosphere for everyone to get back into the
swing of things. We thank Rick Pierce for getting
this KISS League (keep it simple, sweetie) together for our season to begin. Bocce Ball is a
fun sport enjoyed by many here at RCE.
Ballroom Dance Lessons
Instructor Ron Pollisto, from the musical group
The Tucson Twosome, is a lifelong entertainer
and ballroom dancer. He loves ballroom dancing
and enjoys teaching others.
Ballroom dance lessons take
place every Sunday in the Auditorium from 3:30 - 4:30 pm.
Classes will continue throughout the season. To take this
class, all you need is the desire
to dance. Leave the rest to
Ron. A partner is not required.
The class goes for approximately one hour each Sunday and cost $4.00
per session. Sign up in the Activity Office.
I would like to thank Dave Hartman, Pirkko Olson, Marion Burns, and crew for making our Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Ugly Sweater contest
a success.
On Monday, Jan. 4th, the Regular League begins
and runs for eight weeks, ending in February.
Even though the leagues are full, we invite you
to sign up as a substitute. Spectators are always
welcome. The bocce court sideline offers a great
opportunity to get to know more people in the
Park. Bocce is a fun sport to watch and play. We
invite you to come and enjoy it with us.
In January, there will be two practice dances.
These dances, scheduled for Jan. 10th and 24th,
are open to all who enjoy ballroom dancing. The
cost is an extra $1 for students and $5 for nonstudents.
At this time, we are currently seeking someone
to coordinate the end-of-season party held in
March. Think about it and give us a call.
Whether it’s the Rumba, the Tango, or the Foxtrot, ballroom dancing can have lasting positive
effects on your health. Come give it a try!

Brown Bag Forum
Bri - Bro
The Brown Bag Forum is an informal come-asyou-are event held every other Tuesday at noon
in the Rec. Hall, lasting no more than one hour.
Each session features a speaker (or in some cases a pair of speakers), drawn from within the
Park, who’ve kindly consented to share some of
their unique life experiences with the rest of us hence introducing us to curious events, situations, routines, knowledge, career perspectives,
etc., that otherwise we probably would know
little about. Essentially the Forum is just friends
working up and then sharing with the rest of us
some interesting bits of their lives; many sessions will include pictures projected from slides.
Attendees are encouraged to
bring and eat lunch during the
presentations, and are invited to
pose questions and otherwise
engage with the presenters.

Country
Gentlemen
Cooking Club - The Rincon Foodie Club
Our men’s singing group here at Rincon Country
East is called The Country Gentlemen. We have
been performing for over 30 years, and we’re
always seeking to add new members. A great
singing voice isn’t needed, just the ability to carry a tune. If one can read music, that is helpful
but not essential.
Bread • Jan. 4 • 9:00 am • Kitchen • $10
Join the Rincon Foodie Club to learn great, new
recipes. Our next class will take place on Monday, Jan. 4th. We will make and break bread together.
In this class, we will
prepare a peasant
bread, orange pecan
bread, cinnamon roll,
and a white loaf. We have 6 bread machines
that will be in different stages of bread making.
We will learn to make a sponge starter, which is
different from a sourdough starter.
We do not sing barbershop, but we do sing 4part harmony with accompaniment by our special lady, Linda Lazzeroni. The Country Gentlemen begin practice on Monday, Jan. 4th from
12:30 - 2:00 pm. You’ll find it easy to learn your
part by listening to the other singers. No audition is required, just your interest.
The class fee is $10.00. Each participant will
bring home 2 loaves of bread and recipes. Bring
two large baggies or something else to wrap
them and carry them home.
We schedule about eight singing performances
during late January through late March, and
have a farewell luncheon toward the end of
March. Some of us have been with the group for
over 25 years, and we’d love to have some newer residents check us out.
For more information, encouragement, and
comment, please call one of us: George Koss

dues. Some of us have been doing genealogy for
years and others are just starting. We learn from
each other by sharing stories, experiences, websites, forms, and occasionally we go to the Family History Center for research. We always welcome new members. Check with the Activity
Office for the actual start date.
Free classes continue Thursdays from 7:30 - 8:30

The Croquet Club is a group of residents who
enjoy playing a fun game which takes us back to
when we were youngsters. We are inviting new
residents, both women and men, to join us at
Abraham Lincoln Park, located on Escalante
Road just west of Camino Seco on the south
side. We have 3 courts set up to play on every
Monday from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. We have all the
equipment needed to play, including mallets.
Get ready to join a friendly group of hikers for a
stroll in the desert. We meet on Mondays at 8:30

We play a more competitive-style game which
makes the game even more fun and interesting.
We’d love to have more players, so if you are
interested, come on out and join us. Give it a try!
Monday’s easy hike returns by noon. On Fridays,
the group heads out for an intermediate-level
hike and returns by early afternoon (so bring

Line Dancing
Are you tired of sitting on the sidelines watching
other people line dance and have fun? Get up out
of your seat and join in.
Come to the Auditorium every Monday throughout the season from 9:30 - 11:30 am. Classes cost
only $3 per session. This is a fun and inexpensive
way to enjoy a two-hour workout with friends.
We really appreciate all the donations. Please
remember no hardback novels, except in large
print, and no magazines older than 3 months.
The dances are not difficult, so give it a try. If you
are just starting out, no
worries… if you can move
your feet, then you can
line dance! Don’t miss the
fellowship and fun. Your
feet want to dance!
Everyone is welcome to work on the jigsaw puzzles. We usually keep the latest finished one on
display while working on a new one. The puzzles can also be borrowed if you have room to
work them.
We’re getting lots of new books. Check us out,
and maybe you’ll find a new favorite author this
New Year!
I would like to start a class for beginners if we
have enough interest. It will be held on Thursdays
from 9:30 - 11:30 am and the cost is $3.00 per session. If interested, please see Karen Barta.

Pickleball
Activities
Pickleball players from Rincon Country East invite everyone to come try the fastest growing
sport in America - pickleball. Think ping pong
and tennis combined, and you’ll have an idea of
what’s involved in this fast, fun game. It was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, WA, and
got its name when the family dog “Pickles” kept
running off with the ball.

Rincon Kokonuts
Calling all singers! The Rincon Kokonuts will be
starting up again on Tuesday, Jan. 5th. All men
and women who enjoy singing are welcome to
join us.
Rincon Country East is fortunate to have two beautiful, dedicated Pickleball
courts, and most days of
the week you’ll find them
filled with players laughing, joking, and getting some lively exercise.
Come join us weekday mornings beginning at
9:00 am. We are happy to teach the game to
new players and share our love of this fun sport.
The courts are also open at other times during
the week and weekends for you to play. We
have extra paddles and balls in the shed next to
the courts. For more information, contact us.
We’ve had a fun and busy season so far. Our
dedicated leader, Marian Davis, retired in November. Thanks, Marian, for over twelve years
of service to the Kokonuts!
THANK YOU, MARIAN DAVIS!

Square Dancing
Activities
Welcome to modern Western
Square Dancing, where you can
find fun, fitness, and friendship. The fun starts the very
first time you step on the floor.
If you haven’t seen modern Square Dancing, you
probably think of a few farm folks in an old barn
doing some crazy dance to an old time band
playing “Turkey in the Straw.” Well, things have
changed and so has Square Dancing. The music
is varied and includes country, western, rock and
roll, and current pop. The moves still include a
few old favorites like “dosido,” but there are
many newer moves that are designed to create
interesting patterns. We’ll have a mainstream
dance with a plus workshop or review if requested.

confirmed to have a square. If you are interested
in learning square dancing, please come to the
Activity Office and sign up so we can get this going again. Don Haney is our caller. He is one of
the best in the nation. So, if you want to learn a
new dance, or just dance, please let us know.
Vespers
The Vespers Sunday evening service for the
month of January will focus on what is meant by
the Church and Body of Christ or family of God.
There is always a time for discussion and input
from everyone present. On Jan. 17, the Gospel
singing group, Blue Grass from Heaven, will present an evening of great gospel music. They are
still called by their old name, but there is very
little Blue Grass style to their music.
Pending the formation of a full square, dancing
will take place Monday nights at 7:00 pm in the
Auditorium. Don’t be a round - join our square,
and dance the night away. Classes are $4.00 per
person and will go until 8:30 pm. Sign up in the
Activity Office.
When guests come to minister to us is the only
time we receive an offering, and we invite you
to participate in this group service for The Lord.
