down town parks connectivity an additional SCI: connect the downtown parks, perhaps the path lights could be a form of connection between the parks University of Oregon – City of SalemUpdated: June 9, 2010 Sustainable Cities Initiative Downtown Parks Connectivity Purpose of Project: • Connect Salem’s core area parks with a system of urban trails and bicycle routes that improve pedestrian and bicycle accessibility and enhance the recreational potential of the parks system and enjoyment of parks patrons. Desired Outcomes/Project Objectives • Enhance connections between Wallace Marine Park, Riverfront Park, Minto-Brown Island Park, and Bush’s Pasture Park, via Mill Race Trail, Pringle Trail, and other future trail and bridge connections across and along the Willamette Slough, through the Boise property and other private and publicly owned properties. • Further examine implementing Court Street underpass connection from Downtown to Riverfront Park (plans available). • Examine how to connect the Union Street Railroad Bridge to points further east and north to connect to north downtown, Marion Square Park, Union Street, and Chemeketa Street. • Integrate access to and from Wallace Marine Park with existing and on-going development plans for West Salem. • Integrate Vision 2020 bicycle and pedestrian goals and objectives into access to other Core Area parks, possible new town square, and new striping plans for downtown streets and other improvements to be constructed with the Streets and Bridges Bond projects. • Identify inter-park and intra-park improvements that would enhance recreational opportunities (i.e. marathons, walk-a-thons, leisure walking and bicycling). • Plan to implement two-way traffic flow on State Street between Commercial Street and Liberty Street once relocation of the State Street access to Riverfront Park is complete.
