The thing I like about baseball is that it's one-on-one. You stand up there
alone, and if you make a mistake, it's your mistake. If you hit a home run, it's
your home run. Hank Aaron

Lions Club regrets to announce the passing on PZC
Neil Black on March 18.
Lion Neil was a long time
Lion and will be missed
dearly by our Club, his wife
Leona and Family. A memorial service will be held later
but not before mid-April.
Club branches are a great way for your
club to increase membership and expand
service in your community. Branch members become part of an existing "parent"
Lions club—your club—but they organize
their own meetings, projects and officers
just like a regular club. It only takes five
people to form a club branch, which makes it easier to get started.
A club branch is great way to add members and bring needed service to remote
areas of your community. It's also a good option for potential new members who
can't make your club meetings or for people who are passionate about a special
type of service.
Learn more about starting your own club branch today!
Do you have a group of at least 5 people, looking for
group volunteer activities? Form a Lions club branch and
start making a difference in your community right away.
Looking for a great way to make a difference
and find new members? Consider hosting a
special service project for family and friends
during the Protecting Our Environment
campaign in April.
You can organize a community clean-up,
plant a tree, plan a "green" campaign or a
recycling project to make your community a
better place for all. Check out the project
planning guide or click "Learn more" for
additional information and resources. And remember to
share your projects through MyLCI to earn a Centennial
Banner Patch for your club!

Community
The Comox Valley Monarch Lions Club was happy that
29-year-old Isaac Leblanc, who suffers from a debilitating form of MS, was able to
return home from a long stay at a care facility. But, when the Club members
learned that the wheelchair ramps Isaac needed to stay
home was not completed they rolled up their sleeves
and got to work.
Weeks of preparation made this project happen. Visits
to the building
“There’s nothing like the feeling of
department, site
giving back and helping”
visits, drawings and
labor was required to complete the ramp handrails to
make it safe for
Isaac and his
Isaac Leblanc and
care-giving
his mother Wendy
mother. A team of
CV Monarch Lions
members first needed to clean up the site,
and Club paid the $50.00 dump fees.
A local hardware store, Central Builders,
learned from the CV Monarch Lions
members about Isaac’s need when the Monarch Lions were doing a special event
at the store selling 911 Reflective Address Signs at the end of January. They
said they wanted to help too and generously donated all the materials required.
“We welcome the opportunity to make a difference in our community,” said
President Rick Grinham, “There’s nothing like the feeling of giving back and
helping neighbours in need.” The new ramp with Lion Norm Lundie selling
handrails allows Isaac to safely stay home and
911 Reflective Address
allows him to be more independent.
Signs.
The Comox Valley Monarch Lions Club has been
selling 911 Reflective Address Signs to residents and
businesses in the Comox Valley as a community fundraising project for three years now. About 1000 blue
reflective address signs are displayed around the valley and as far off as Cow Head, Labrador. Other Vancouver Island Lions Clubs have adopted this worthwhile project in their communities too. For more information on this project, helping to keep families safe,
visit www.911reflectivesign.ca.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate each of every one of you on successfully completing the
2014-2015 Lions Advanced Leadership Institute that was recently held in Calgary from March 7-9th.
These advanced training opportunities are a fantastic way not only to meet new lions but to network and gain new leadership skills that hopefully you will consider within our District. The future of lions depends on people like you that have
stepped forward to learn new things.
Our District is very proud of your accomplishments and we look forward to hearing great things from you. I'm always here if
you would like to discuss any future leadership opportunities within lions. Again thank you for your time and commitment to
Lions International.

Omega-3s & Diabetes
OMEGA-3 ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS are certainly getting a lot of attention these days. These healthful fats offer an assortment
of benefits for people of all ages. They have been linked with everything from improving the neurological development of fetus, and
the learning abilities and behaviour of young children, to easing depression and other mood disorders in adults, lessening
cardiovascular disease risk and even maintaining cognitive function as we age.
The Canadian Diabetes Association recommends eating 2-3 servings of non-fried fish per week for dietary omega-3 fatty
acids. Seafood contains omega-3 fatty acids that are considered a good type of fat because of the benefits they provide Omega-3
benefits include:
- reduction of blood triglyceride levels,
- prevention of blood clotting (which can cause blood vessels to narrow and ultimately become blocked),
- possible reduction of blood pressure, and
- food sources are low in saturated fat.
Strive to eat seafood 2-3 times per week!
For adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, who have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack or stroke, omega-3
fats may provide even more key disease-fighting advantages. “Omega-3 fats may decrease cardiovascular disease in a number or
ways”, they improve the blood cholesterol levels of different fats in the blood linked to heart disease and stroke, and decrease the
rate of blood clotting.” Blood clots, can lead to both heart attacks and strokes.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.
Makes 4 servings
Nutritional breakdown per serving: 5 g carbohydrate, 28g protein, 10g
total fat, 1g saturated fat,0 g fibre, 285g sodium, 230 calories.
When you think about the time it takes to cook fish, it really fits the definition of fast food.
This dish is delicious hot or cold, so make extra if you like and enjoy it the next day.

District Global Membership Team (GMT) Report March 2015
As we write this report the
date has been decided for
the Charter Party for our
new District club, C to Sea.
It is set for June 6th at
Chemainus Gardens on
River road in Chemainus.
More announcements will be coming soon.
Today I had the
joy of again introducing a
new gentleman to lions in
his area. He was very happy
to hear about a club. He
has just moved here from
the U.K. So hopefully one
Victoria club will be getting a
new member. This is why I
am asking everyone to let
me know if you have a
member that is moving away
so that maybe we can get
them into a club near where
they are moving to.
Leo and I recently
had the privilege to go to the
Lions Leadership Institute.
We met many new friends
but even more important we
learned lots and have an
even bigger support team.
Lots of good info that
hopefully we can use to
further better our great Lions
family. What a wonderful
experience and we would
like to thank all of the great
instructors that were there to
teach us , Great Job and
thank you each and every
one of you for the precious
time you spent with us.
At this time I
would like to congratulate
both Allan Guy and Brian
Morin who also attended this
course with us from this
district.
Last but not least
Leo and I would like to thank
our District and our Club for
giving us this chance. Thank
You so much from both Leo
and I.
Now may I remind
you to Just Ask One as you
won’t be sorry that you did?
There is no such thing as
you can’t, just that you
won’t. You just need to learn
how and trust yourself- then
give a person the chance to
share the good feelings you
get as a team helping
people help others. Then the
next job is to mentor that
new Lion to learn and get
that good feeling that you
have experienced.
Come on Step Up
To The Plate, You can do it
and it will make you and
your club feel good to. If you
do this you will not Strike
Out but give your club a
Home Run?

Life Patterns
I’m beginning to see a pattern here.
Nobody wants to run!
Zone Chairman of the Lions Clubs.
It’s a job that must be done!
Every time I raise my head;
All eyes are staring at me!
Every member of my Lions Club!
I feel, my blood could actually freeze.
A visiting member puts forth my name.
Should I really let it stand?
But, before I have time to take a breath,
“Congratulations!” and they’re shaking my
hand!
I don’t know if I can do the job.
But their faith in me still stands!
My best is all they expect me to do!
At least that is the plan.
We’ll have to see what happens next,
As in this role, I stride.
Zone Chairman Elect, of 19-I-4
I hope I can lead this Pride!
