RECREATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The Recreation Scholarship Program has been
established for Ceres Residents who meet income
requirements wishing to participate in a City of Ceres
Recreation Program. Approved applicants are eligible for
a maximum award of $50 per year. To find out if you qualify,
please call the Ceres Community Center at 538-5629.
COMMUNITY INPUT
In order for the Ceres Community Center to be a success,
we need to make sure we are meeting the needs of
our community. Ideas for classes and programs are
welcomed and encouraged. Please don’t hesitate to
suggest ways we can improve.

Please be advised that all participants
involved in any department programs
or special events are subject to being photographed. Such photographs
may be used by the City of Ceres without an obligation to provide compensation to those photographed.
We are no longer accepting registration over the
phone. However, you are more than welcome to call
us at 538-5628 for additional information.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
• Pre-registration is required for all classes.
• Register early to avoid waitlists!
• Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment.
• We do not pro-rate class fees if late registration occurs.
REFUND POLICY
Refunds will be given on cancellations received prior to
the first class or if a doctor’s note is received. Failure
to attend a program or “no shows” will not be granted a
refund. If you are not satisfied with any of our programs,
please do not hesitate to call 538-5628.

Hoopsters Youth Basketball Program
Join a non-competitive, coed, youth basketball league for children
K - 10th grades. The principle of the league is to create a fun
environment for children of all abilities to learn and enjoy the game.
The league runs 10 weeks with games scheduled for Saturday.
Practices are conducted and scheduled during the week by coaches.
PLAYERS MUST PRE-REGISTER BY September 5, 2014. There
is a $16.50 jersey fee, all players must wear designated program
jersey. Please Note: Game times may vary depending on signups. Cost: $45.

Young players are introduced to game basics through fundamental
activities, games, and fun soccer challenges. One hour a day for five
days (parents are encouraged to join in). Cost: $77.
Half Day: 6 to 12 yrs
Emphasis is placed upon skill development and mastery of core
techniques through individual and small group practices and
coached games. This all action camp is our most popular program.
Cost: $110.

KIDZ LOVE SOCCER: Kidz 2 to 10 yrs
of age learn the world’s most popular sport
from professional coaches trained in the Kidz
Love Soccer method; a session experience
includes age appropriate activities: skill demonstrations, fun games, and instructional scrimmages conducted in
a non-competitive, recreational format.
Mommy/Daddy & Me: 2 to 3.5 yrs
Introduce yourself and your toddler to the “World’s Most Popular
Game”! As you and your child participate in our fun, age appropriate
activities, your child will be developing their large motor skills and
socialization skills. A variety of activities designed around the game
of soccer will be played each week. Cost: $60.

DANCE: Our comprehensive dance program includes Ballet, Jazz,

Youth Fitness Classes
GYM-FIT: This program is designed for boys and girls, ages
12 months to 12 years old. It enhances and stimulates early
childhood development, hand-eye-foot coordination, and loco motor
development through experience in basic gymnastics skills including
floor tumbling, beam, bars, and trampoline.
Parent/Tot: 12 months to 2 yrs
Songs, movement games and beginning gymnastics skills are
offered. Parent/child work together with the help of an instructor.

Duckling (Parent & Me)
This is a fantastic opportunity for children (ages 6 months-3 years)
to enjoy the water while being accompanied by a parent/adult.
Instructors will guide parents in teaching their children. Skills such
as supported floating, supported kicking, bubble-blowing, drafting,
and passing will be introduced. Parents will learn to use proper
support techniques and effective visual/verbal cues to encourage
the development of their tot?s basic swimming skills. This class is
designed to help children become comfortable in the water. It is also
designed to acclimate young children to the swim lesson environment
and instructors in preparation for joining our group lessons. You will
play games, sing songs, have fun, and learn about water safety. No
previous swimming experience necessary. Classes held in 4ft 5in
section of swimming pool. Cost: $42.
Water Polo Camp: Ages 8 to 16 yrs
This camp is meant to serve as an introduction to the sport of water
polo. Participants will learn a variety of skills including: passing and
shooting drills, dribbling, treading water, field and body positioning,

Starfish (Level I)
This is a class for beginning swimmers ages 5 and up. No previous
swimming experience is required for Level I. Participants will: Be
encouraged to explore the water, blow bubbles, wet their face, open
their eyes underwater, breathe rhythmically (bobbing), experiment
with buoyancy, float on their front and back with support, tread water
with support, experiment with locomotion, kick on their front and
back with support, demonstrate arm action on their front and back
with support, learn about basic water safety, have fun and lay the
foundation for becoming safe, strong swimmers. Cost: $42.
Turtle (Level II)
This is a class designed for swimmers who have already mastered
the Level I skills. Participants will: Learn underwater skills, submerge
their head completely, breathe rhythmically (bob) with complete
submersion, develop basic buoyancy skills, float on their front and
back without support, glide on their front and back without support,
roll from front to back and back to front without support, begin
learning locomotive skills, combine arm action and kicking without
support, learn about water safety and water safety skills, and acquire
a range of skills to prepare them for stroke development. Cost: $42.

This is a class for swimmers who have already mastered the Level
II skills. Participants will: Practice breathing control and underwater
skills, rotary (side) breathing, retrieve submerged object in chestdeep water, develop advanced buoyancy skills, front and back float

Commission
The purpose of the Ceres Youth Commission is to provide culturally
diverse youth in our city with an opportunity to make a positive
impact in our community. Commissioners will be given the
opportunity to advise the Recreation Department, City Council, and
other groups on matters relating to youth in Ceres. CYC meets every
3rd Wednesday of each month at 3:00pm in the Ceres Community
Center Teen Room. Ceres Youth Commission members will have
the following responsibilities:
1. Help with community problem solving
2. Provide opportunities and activities for teens in Ceres
3. Conduct community service projects
4. Supervise and facilitate Teen Room in the Ceres Community
Center.

Ceres HS Pool. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by
an adult. All participants must wear swimming suits only in the pool.
Flotation devices are not allowed, however Coast Guard approved

This dedicated space is the perfect place to socialize with friends,

26th Annual Concerts in the Park Series
A wonderful and relaxing 7 week concert experience free to our community featuring live
music, intermission entertainment, food, drink and activities. All concerts will be played at
Whitmore Park from 6:30-8:00pm. Wine and beer will be sold by the Ceres Chamber of
Commerce and patrons may purchase BBQ concessions from the Fire Fighters Union.

The 2nd Annual Voice of Ceres Youth
Singing Competition
kicks off on Tuesday, Juny 3 during the Concerts in the Park
intermission. This competition is open to children grades
k-8th grades. 3 performances per night, winner voted each
concert and then moves on to the final competition on July 15.
