Christmas Party 2015
The 8th annual Corral 22 Christmas party was another smashing success! Our gracious host, Al Pechulis, once
again opened his home to our group. Every year Al's basement continues to impress us with new amenities and
features, like the big screen projector TV and surround sound that we used to watch the NFR Finals. And, as
always, Sharon did a wonderful job decorating the room.
The food was also over-the-top AMAZING and plentiful, with two prime ribs (thanks Richard Balliger & Dan
Cotten), a glazed ham, lots of side dishes and desserts. We were even surprised with a delicious birthday cake for
Tiffanie and I.
Other evening highlights included the presentation of the "Member of the Year" plaque, which was awarded to
Antoinette Dohmen and our "silent auction" (sorry Sharon, no megaphone to announce the items this year) where
Richard really cleaned up! Thank you to everyone else who also participated!
As for me, it never ceases to amaze me how well you think you know people that you see or speak to
frequently but how much more there is to learn through good conversation. On behalf of the entire Board, we
hope to see you at our events and parties in 2016. Happy New Year!

Christmas Ride 2015
Griffith Park Christmas Ride 2015
The storm clouds had cleared overnight, leaving cool blue skies for ETI Corral 22’s annual Griffith Park Christmas Ride. Trail Boss,
Paul Jacques had designed a new route through the huge park in Downtown Los Angeles, creating a shorter, less exhausting ride
than earlier versions, so more horses and riders could attend. Kat Ungamrung rode Drag with the company of Tiffanie Bailey and
Paul Anderson.
A group of over 30 riders met in Martinez Arena and got their mounts ready with all sorts of Holiday decorations, including Santa
hats, bows, tinsel and jingle bells. Everyone was in great spirits in anticipation of a fine ride.
Paul led the group along a series of rolling hills then detoured down to the OLD LA Zoo, so people could explore the abandoned zoo
grounds, complete with moss-covered animal cages and exhibit buildings. The horses and mules did well with this unusual area and
made their way back up to the main trail.
The trail was in good shape, with beautiful trees and great views of the park and surrounding city. It was interesting to ride through a
forested, quiet area then look out to the big city. After a couple of hours, the riders entered Silver Springs Park, where lunch was
being prepared.
The hungry riders made their way past a drum circle, crossed 2 streets and rode past dozens of people, children and dogs, all excited
to see a parade of decorated equines walking by. The horses seemed to enjoy the attention and proceeded along a dedicated trail to
the tie rails.
Bill and Tina Pollard and Walt Conner outdid themselves with delicious hamburgers, potato salad and brownies. We had several
helpers prepare lunch including Patty and Jim Hug, Susy Ellinger, Susy Martin and Patty Munsen. Everyone ate well and enjoyed
the company, then Kat announced the awards for Oldest Horse, Oldest Rider and Best Costume.
Antoinette Dohmen won double honors for Oldest Horse (30 years!) and for oldest rider. There was tough competition for Best
Costume since so many people did such great jobs decorating their mounts, but it was finally decided that Mary Timmer would win
1st place and Aleta Bird for 3rd place.
After a nice picnic, riders remounted and headed back along another, slightly higher trail back to home base. There was lots of
laughter and talking along the way as they enjoyed a leisurely walk back to the staging area where they said their goodbyes and
loaded their trailers for the drive home.
