Day 2 / Osorno

Breakfast of specialities in the hotel garden after wake up

Flight at lunchtime to Osorno, the real start of our Patagonian
journey. Arrival around 3:00 p.m. Osorno lies in the so-called
Patagonian Switzerland

In the afternoon, begin exploring the city, walk along the river
Rahue, or just relax in the hotel and look forward to the adventures
kicking off in high near the next day

At about 5:00 p.m. we will pick up our vehicles, load them, and
take them for a test spin as needed

In the evening, a Chilean menu in the hotel restaurant awaits us
and our appetites. The extensive buffet will offer the quality meats,
good wines, and other specialities

Day 3 / Lago Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano

7:00 a.m. Breakfast

8:00 a.m. Starting first long stage (290 km)

We'll head to the south-east past impressive Lago Llanquihue, the
second largest lake in Chile, to the foot of the Osorno Volcano.
At 2,652 m, it has been called Little Fuji and is one of the most
popular attractions and oft photographed panoramas in Chile

After visiting the volcano and having lunch, we then head to Golfo
de Ancud, the first kilometres via Ruta 7 and then via ferry to our
destination: a small hosteria in Hornopirén with a genuine family
atmosphere

You might like to take a walk along the small harbour or enjoy a
glass of good Chilean wine before dinner at the hotel’s bar

Dinner is served at about 9:00 p.m.

Day 4 / Golfo de Ancud and Carretera Austral

7:00 a.m. Breakfast

8:00 a.m. Drive to Hornopirén harbour. Because there are no
highways in this part of Patagonia, we take a 4-hour ferry ride
through the magnificent fjords of the Golfo de Ancud to the next
stretch of highway at Caleta Gonzalo

We will enjoy our picnic lunch during our leisurely ferry ride

At around 2:00 p.m. continue driving the famous Carretera
Austral (Ruta 7). This highway will take us through the
wilderness of Patagonia and one of the most fantastic and
spectacular nature experiences in all of South America

After driving about 250 km on gravel slopes, we will reach our spa
hotel around 7:30 p.m. near by the village Puyuhuapi


Day 5 / Nationalpark Queulat or Relax

Today, you choose

We offer an extraordinary hike through Queulat National Park as
one option. Various trails from different distances are perfect for
exploring this unspoilt wilderness. Also a boat tour on Laguna
Témpanos takes you closer to the hanging glacier Ventisquero
Colgante. There you can listen to the sound of the cracking ice

Situated in a wide narrow fjord between three national parks, the
area around the hotel is perfect for active exploration by hiking or
a guided exploration of the fjord by kayak

Alternatively, you might treat yourselfe a relaxing massage in the
hotel’s spa or use its indoor pool. The hot springs at the hotel are
perfect spots to relax in the open air

8:30 p.m. Dinner at the hotel´s restaurant with lake view

Day 6 / Coyhaique

9:30 a.m. Boat transfer

10:30 a.m. Start for today’s 220 km drive, where we continue on
the Carretera Austral through dense rainforest and surprisingly
varied panoramas to the provincial capital of Coyhaique. The
town lies at the foot of imposing Cerro Mackay

You will soon succumb to its charm. After all, its name in
Mapuche means “A place where you settle down.” The Mapuche
people are the original inhabitants of a vast territory in Chile and
Argentina

At about 4:00 p.m., check-in at our beautiful boutique hotel

Afterwards, an opportunity to browse the town’s crafts markets or
just watch the world go by from one of the lovely outdoor terraces


Day 7 / Marble Caves and Lago Negro

From 7:00 a.m. Breakfast with a view

8:30 a.m. Start of our next 280 km long drive on the Carretera
Austral. One of the most difficult sections for the builders of
Ruta 7, meandering as it does with almost innumerable twists
and turns through swamps and rainforest to Puerto Rio
Tranquilo on Lago General Carrera

In the afternoon, we will take an impressive boat tour to the
natural “cathedrals” Capillas de Marmol. They are known for
their amazing play of colour on the marble of giant boulders
which have fallen from the cliff

We will then continue the ride and reach our today´s destination:
A cosy and idyllic located hacienda surrounded by three lakes

Day 8 / 1st Border Crossing to Argentina

From 8:00 a.m. Breakfast

10:00 a.m. Departure for today´s 230 km ride with border crossing
to Argentina

The runway, with its stunning panoramic landscapes and majestic
mountains in the distance leads us along Lago General Carrera
to the small border town Chile Chico

After crossing the border at Paso Rio Jeinemeni, there will be time
for a short walk in Los Antiguos, lunch, or shopping for supplies
before we follow the shores of Lago Buenos Aires to our
destination Perito Moreno

Expected arrival time about 5:00 p.m.

In the evening, traditional, delicious Argentine cuisine

Day 9 / Cave of the Hands and Mystical Pampa

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

9:00 a.m. Start of one of our longer rides, almost 330 km of gravel
and asphalt roads through steppes, hilly landscapes, and the
endless Pampa

11:30 a.m. Stopover at Cueva de las Manos (“Cave of the
Hands”), an UNESCO World Heritage Site in the canyon of the
Rio Pinturas. This cave contains paintings going back thousands
of years to the earliest inhabitants of this region

At about 4:00 p.m. we will reach an idyllic, century-old estancia
near Gobernador Gregores. You may like to explore the
surrounding area on horseback

8:30 p.m. Wonderfull homemade dinner around an open fire

Day 10 / Steppe and El Calafate

From 8:30 a.m. Breakfast

Around 10.00 a.m. Departure

Before tomorrow’s rest/free day, we have another ride of 290 km
across the steppe landscape of the province of Santa Cruz. One of
the most sparsely populated regions of Argentina, almost
uninhabited in many parts

At 5:00 p.m., we will arrive at our destination El Calafate on
Lago Argentino. This pretty little town has become the tourist
centre for Los Glaciares National Park, home to spectacular
glacier Perito Moreno which draws visitors from around the world.
We will visit it tomorrow


Day 11 / Perito Moreno Glacier or Rest day

9:00 a.m. Breakfast

11:00 a.m. Optional departure from the hotel for a day trip to one
of the most impressive sights in Patagonia: the Perito Moreno
Glacier. Famous for its ice cliff reaching up to 100 m and running
for kilometres into Lago Argentino (which it frequently causes to
dam up), this glacier will leave you spellbound. Surrounded by
spectacular views and fascinating soundscapes as blocks of ice
break away, this 254 km2 ice giant fascinates always

Optional visit to the Glaciarium, a glacier museum

But, if you would rather relax, we understand. You might choose
to have a spa day at the hotel or explore El Calafate on your own


Day 12 / Border Crossing back to Chile

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

9:00 a.m. Departure form El Calafate

Today’s ride of 280 km takes us through the Argentine province of
Santa Cruz with its typical steppe for the last time to Paso Rio
Don Guillermo

We will cross the border back to Chile and, after many kilometres,
reach our next destination, one of the special highlights of
Patagonia: the unique Torres del Paine National Park with its
majestic rock towers

We plan on exploring a small part of the park by foot or by boat
tomorrow with all who wish to join us

About 6:00 p.m. Arrival at the hotel in Rio Serrano

8:00 p.m. Dinner with extensive buffet in a local atmosphere

Day 13 / Torres del Paine or Rest Day

Sleep in a little

9:00 a.m. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant with spectacular views

If you’d like, join us on a tour through parts of the famous Torres
del Paine National Park

We will see the “towers of the blue sky”, spectacular hiking trails,
beautiful mountain massifs, huge glaciers, lakes shimmering in
different colours, or take an impressive boat tour to Grey Glacier

Alternatively, you can relax in the comfortable hotel while
enjoying the breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside,
or explore the area on horseback

At the end of the day, we will meet back at the hotel for dinner.
There we´ll share our today´s experiences and impressions, if you
like

Day 14 / Región de Magallanes / Morro Chico

9:00 a.m. Breakfast

Around 10:30, we will leave Torres Del Paine National Park
behind us and head south to the Magallanes y la Antártica
Chilena Region. After visiting the Cueva del Milodón, we will
take Ruta 9 to the quaint town of Puerto Natales with its
extensive waterfront for a stop-over

We then drive past the volcano Morro Chico and through a
remote landscape crisscrossed with swamps and low woodlands as
we steadily progress to the famous Strait of Magellan

Our destination today is an idyllic, historic villa still owned by the
family on whose farm we will be spending the night

In the evening, our hosts will treat us to their family specialities

Tag 15 / Crossing the Strait of Magellan
and 2nd Border Crossing to Argentina

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

Today’s is the longest stage on our journey (440 km) and will take
us to Punta Delgada, the narrowest part of the Strait of Magellan

From there, the ferry will take us in just 20 minutes to the
legendary island of Tierra del Fuego

We drive through extensive grasslands and rocky, barren
landscapes and then cross the border back to Argentina at Paso
San Sebastián. A little further, we follow the Atlantic coast south
to Rio Grande, the largest city in Tierra del Fuego. It is known as
the “International Capital of Trout”

Approx. 6:30 p.m. Arrival and hotel check-in

Day 16 / Land of Fire - Tierra del Fuego

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

9:00 a.m. Departure to Ushuaia, the southernmost destination on
our journey, the southernmost city of continental America, and the
southernmost end of the Pan-American highway:
“The end of the world “

We will pass through diverse panoramas on today’s 220 km ride,
first past Lago Fagnano then crossing the last, massive mountain
ranges of Tierra del Fuego before we reach the Beagle Channel
and the end of Ruta 3, the last section of highway in America

Let´s celebrate reaching El Fin Del Mundo (span. for „The End
Of The World”) in Tierra del Fuego National Park!

After checking into our hotel, we will meet at 8:30 p.m. for dinner
and continue celebrating in the city centre … with open-end

Day 17 / Ushuaia

Free day. Today is yours to do with as you wish. Here are some
suggestions:

Relax at the hotel and share your stories

Go sightseeing or shopping in the city centre of Ushuaia

Take a boat trip to Isla Navarino, the penguin colony on Isla de los
Pajaros, or the famous lighthouse of Ushuaia

Tour the former pirates’ prison

Visit the museum of the Yamana people

Hiking in Tierra del Fuego National Park

Ride the prison train or double-decker bus, and so much more

Around 19:00, we’ll meet up for dinner in a very nice city
restaurant

Day 18 / Through the heart of Tierra del Fuego
and Border Crossing back to Chile

From 8:00 a.m. Relaxed breakfast admiring stunning views

At 10:30 a.m., we will start our 320 km ride along the only road
that heads to Rio Grande. Shortly before the town, we will turn at
Paso Rio Bellavista to cross the border back to Chile

After crossing the border, we take the gravel roads at a more
moderate pace as we continue across the pasture, steppe and marsh
of the mysterious heart of Tierra del Fuego

At around 4:00 p.m., we will reach a remote fishing lodge on the
Rio Grande. Here we will relax, enjoy the wide views, fresh
homemade delicacies, and reminisce about our memories around
the fireplace

Day 19 / 2nd Crossing of the Strait of Magellan

From 6:30 a.m. Breakfast

8:00 a.m. Departure on our final, 220 km ride along Inútil Bay to
Porvenir

Second crossing of the Strait of Magellan via ferry. Maybe some
whales or dolphins will accompany us as we cross the Strait of
Magellan. During the crossing we will take the time and enjoy a
snack

4:30 p.m. Check-in at the historic hotel in Punta Arenas centrally
located on the Plaza de Armas and then return of our vehicles

At night, we will head to the Shackleton Bar and the world of
famous explorer Ernest Shackleton before we enjoy ourselves at
a dinner in one of the many city restaurants

Day 20 / Punta Arenas


Visit the regional handicraft market on the Plaza de Armas

Visit the open-air ship museum Museo Nao Victoria

Stroll along the beautiful beach promenade

Boat tour and visit the penguin colonies on nearby islands
