Welcome
to
the
12th
annual
“Evening
of
Hope.”
Our
59
member
hotels
have
made
this
event
one
of
the
premier
events
of
the
local
fund
raisers
and
it
showcases
the
level
of
generosity
of
each
member
hotel.
Part
of
our
purpose
is
to
create
a
favorable
climate
that
promotes
the
economic
well
being
of
the
hospitality
industry
in
Seattle,
as
well
as
the
community
at
large.
Through
this
event
we
accomplish
this
goal
while
giving
back
to
our
community.
We
also
recognize
the
support
of
our
presenting
sponsor:
JP
Morgan
and
others.
Without
the
support
of
our
local
business
community
this
event
would
not
be
possible.
Twelve
years
ago,
with
the
initial
support
of
the
Northwest
AIDS
Foundation,
we
created
an
event
to
benefit
local
charities
with
the
mission
to
make
an
impact
in
the
lives
of
people
in
and
around
Seattle.
We
think
we
have
accomplished
this
over
the
last
12
years
and
we
continue
our
mission
with
the
support
tonight
of
Plymouth
Housing
Group
and
the
much
larger
goal
to
end
homelessness
in
Seattle.
In
this
effort
we
join
with
the
City
of
Seattle,
King
County
and
our
honorees,
H.S.
Wright
III
and
Kate
Janeway,
who
over
the
years
have
made
numerous
contributions
through
their
work
with
many
local,
non‐profit
organizations
and
charitable
giving,
and
their
partnership
with
tonight’s
beneficiary,
Plymouth
Housing
Group.
We
trust
you
will
all
enjoy
this
evening
and
look
forward
to
your
continued
generosity
by
raising
your
bid
paddle
throughout
the
night.
We
appreciate
your
support
in
our
mission
to
help
Seattle’s
homeless
each
find
a
warm
and
safe
place
to
call
their
own.
It
is
always
nice
to
come
home.
Sincerely,
Julia

Letter
from
the
President
I
am
very
fortunate
to
work
and
live
in
a
city
where
the
hospitality
industry
is
committed
to
giving
back
to
the
community
and
addressing
needs
in
our
own
backyard.
As
such,
for
the
3rd
year
in
a
row,
it
has
been
a
pleasure
to
work
with
Plymouth
Housing
Group
(PHG)
as
this
year’s
“Evening
of
Hope”
recipient.
A
heartfelt
thank
you
to
everyone
who
has
supported
“Evening
of
Hope.”
You
have
ultimately
raised
awareness
and
funds
for
an
issue
that
has
an
impact
on
the
whole
society
and
supports
PHG’s
mission
‐
to
move
people
directly
out
of
homelessness
and
address
long‐term
housing
issues
in
Seattle.
Tonight,
we
recognize
H.S.
Wright
III
and
Kate
Janeway
for
their
philanthropic
efforts
and
their
dedication
to
ending
the
cycle
of
homelessness.
They
have
shown
tremendous
passion
for
the
community
and
we
are
proud
to
celebrate
their
achievements
and
contributions.
Together
with
Seattle
Hotel
Association
members
and
volunteers,
I
would
also
like
to
thank
“Evening
of
Hope”
Gala
co‐chairs,
Dan
Spurgeon,
General
Manager
of
the
Executive
Hotel
Pacific
and
Julia
Schroeder,
Managing
Director
of
Hotel
Andra.
It
is
my
privilege
to
be
associated
with
such
inspired
individuals
who
have
created
the
vision
for
how
our
association
could
help
our
downtown
community.
The
partnerships
and
friendships
cultivated
at
“Evening
of
Hope”
have
grown
over
the
years.
The
success
of
the
gala
is
due
to
the
hard
work
and
dedication
of
people
like
you—our
partners,
friends,
donors,
sponsors,
volunteers
and
attendees
who
come
together
to
make
this
evening
possible.
On
behalf
of
the
Seattle
Hotel
Association,
we
thank
you for
helping
to
strengthen
our
community
through
events
such
as
these
and
look
forward
to
celebrating
another
successful
gala.
Sincerely,
Dennis
Clark
President,

General

The

Dear
Friends,
Our
association
with
the
Seattle
Hotel
Association
over
the
last
three
years
has
been
very
much
appreciated
by
all
of
us
at
Plymouth
Housing
Group.
Being
the
beneficiary
of
the
annual
“Evening
of
Hope”
gala
helped
Plymouth
complete
a
major
capital
campaign
in
2007,
and
now
helps
fund
vital
supportive
services
for
Plymouth’s
almost
1,000
residents
in
and
around
downtown
Seattle.
Plymouth
Housing
Group
and
the
Seattle
Hotel
Association
have
much
in
common.
We
are
both
committed
to
making
Seattle
a
thriving
environment
for
business
development
and
tourism.
And
we
both
know
that
mutually
beneficial
business
and
community
partnerships
like
ours
improve
the
quality
of
life
for
our
most
vulnerable
citizens,
as
well
as
make
Seattle
a
great
place
to
live
and
work
and,
especially,
to
visit.
For
more
than
25
years,
Plymouth
Housing
Group
has
provided
affordable
housing
for
homeless
people,
and
tonight’s
proceeds
from
the
“Evening
of
Hope”
will
help
Plymouth
provide
supportive
services
and
counseling
to
help
our
residents
get
back
on
their
feet
and
rebuild
their
lives.
Tonight
Plymouth
Housing
Group
is
pleased
to
honor
two
local
philanthropic
leaders,
H.S.
Wright
III
and
Kate
Janeway,
for
their
commitment
to
our
community.
We’re
very
pleased
to
have
the
opportunity
tonight
to
show
our
appreciation
for
their
leadership
and
generosity.
Speaking
for
all
of
us
at
Plymouth,
I
want
to
thank
you
for
your
support
tonight
of
Plymouth’s
mission
to
provide
homes
for
our
community’s
most
vulnerable
residents.
I
hope
you
enjoy
this
wonderful
evening.

Paul

Director,

Plymouth
Housing

works
to
eliminate
homelessness
and
stabilize
homeless
and
verylowincome
people
in
housing
by
preserving,
developing
and
operating
safe,
decent,
affordable
housing,
and
by
providing
opportunities
for
homeless

people
to
improve
their

providing
them
with
opportunities
for

development,
employment,
and
community
connection.
Plymouth’s
supportive
housing
costs
less
than
$11,000
per
year
per
resident
in
contrast
to
studies
that
show
that
a
chronically
homeless
person
on
the
street
uses
medical
and
emergency
services
of
up
to
$50,000
per
year.
Tonight,
more
than
8,000
people
have
no

to
live
in
our
city,
many
of
them
struggling
with
complex
challenges
such
as
mental

chemical

AIDS,
or
the
disabling

of

Plymouth

serves
those
most
in
need
by
providing
permanent
homes
and
supportive
services
to
keep
them

and
stable
for
the
long

Our
successful
housing
model
benefits
more
that
just
our
residents—by
operating
well‐maintained
buildings
with
successful
commercial
tenants
Plymouth
helps
create
a
vibrant
business
environment
in
downtown
Seattle.
Plymouth
is
also
committed
to
historical
preservation—we’ve
saved
many
significant
Seattle
buildings
from
being
demolished,
including
several
historic
hotels
downtown,
giving
them
new
life
as
homes
for
formerly
homeless
people.
Plymouth
realizes
that
providing
housing
alone
does
not
end
homelessness.
Many
homeless
people
need
much
more
than
a
roof
over
their
heads—they
need
medical
care,
mental
health
counseling
and
life
skills
coaching.

Tonight
You
Can
Transform
Lives
and
Build
Hope
These
difficult
financial
times
are
hard
on
everyone
in
our
community,
but
are
especially
devastating
for
our
community’s
homeless
people
struggling
with
multiple
life
challenges
such
as
poverty,
mental
illness,
AIDS
and
chronic
medical
conditions.
Plymouth
Housing
Group’s
innovative
approach
to
ending
homelessness
is
effective
and
life‐changing
‐
we
not
only
provide
permanent
homes,
but
we
also
provide
the
targeted
resources
and
basic
life
skills
our
residents
need
to
get
back
on
their
feet
again.
You
can
transform
lives
tonight
‐
all
the
proceeds
from
this
year’s
Gala
will
fund
vital
support
services
for
almost
1,000
Plymouth
residents
who
live
in
or
near
downtown
Seattle.
By
raising
your
paddle
tonight,
you’ll
help
the
most
vulnerable
residents
of
our
community
find
permanent
homes
so
they
may
rebuild
their
lives
and
regain
their
dignity.
Your
gift
tonight
provides
Plymouth
residents
access
to
mental
health
counseling,
job
training,
and
one‐on‐one
case
management.
These
supportive
services
truly
save
lives
while
reducing
costs
to
our
community.
For
example,
by
providing
these
comprehensive
housing
services
to
homeless
people
with
multiple
medical
conditions
‐
those
individuals
who
repeatedly
visit
the
emergency
room
and
have
serious
medical
conditions
or
drug
and
alcohol
addiction
‐
Plymouth
significantly
reduces
community
emergency
room
and
medical
expenses
and
keeps
these
residents
stable
in
safe,
permanent
homes.
Plymouth’s
comprehensive
approach
has
been
proven
to
break
the
cycle
of
homelessness
and
restore
hope
and
opportunity
to
hundreds
of
homeless
people
in
our
city.
Tonight,
as
you
raise
your
bid
cards
you’ll
make
a
vital
contribution
to
providing
stable
homes
and
supportive
care
for
people
who
would
otherwise
be
struggling
to
survive
on
the
streets.

The
Seattle
Hotel
Association
would
like
to
congratulate
Dennis
Clark,
SHA
President
and
General
Manager
of
The
Fairmont
Olympic
Hotel
for
the
American
Hotel
&
Lodging
Association's
prestigious
Stars
of
the
Industry
Award
2008
for
General
Manager
of
the
Year,
Large
Property.
SHA
is
reminded
that
they
have
a
fearless
leader
who
believes
wholeheartedly
in
the
art
of
refined
responsible
tourism.
A
panel
of
judges
recognized
Clark’s
superior
professionalism
in
the
hotel
industry,
dedication
to
the
city
of
Seattle
and
his
strong
leadership
in
his
role
as
general
manager.
Clark
was
appointed
to
the
General
Manager
position
in
August
2003.
In
the
three
short
years
that
the
hotel
had
been
a
Fairmont
property,
Fairmont
Hotels
&
Resorts
singled
out
the
leadership
Clark
provided
to
his
team
to
deliver
outstanding
results
when
the
hotel
was
awarded
the
coveted
“Hotel
of
the
Year.”
Clark
also
found
the
time
and
energy
to
serve
Seattle’s
hotel
and
tourism
industry.
He
was
elected
President
of
the
Seattle
Hotel
Association
(SHA)
and
due
to
his
visibility
and
leadership,
Clark
was
chosen
by
Governor
Gregoire
and
his
peers
to
serve
as
a
Commissioner
for
the
newly
formed
Washington
State
Tourism
Commission.
Clark
has
undoubtedly
served
as
a
steward
of
outstanding
hospitality
service
and
his
involvement
and
dedication
to
both
the
tourism
and
hotel
industry
have
been
widely
acknowledged.
