How Do You Define Respect?
This is what respect means to
JZMS teachers,
staff, and students:
“Being kind to
others even when
you don't like
them.”
“Treating people
with dignity.”
“Respect is a way
of living. It is considering others'
feeling without regard to our own.
It is realizing that
it's not all about
you and you must
sometimes act according to how it
will make the
other person
feel.”
“An attitude towards someone or
something that
makes them feel
comfortable and
valued.”
“Respect is when
someone treats
you the way you
should be treated
-- nicely.”
“Treating people
fairly.”
“Respect is being
attentive when lis-

their opinion - not
being judgmental.”

Toucans by Fabian Peña
Toucans are one of
the most popular
birds in the world.
Toucans come in
very colorful variations. Some people
say they are love
birds because they
have a black tip
shaped like a heart
on their beak. Did
you know that toucans control their
body temperature
by adjusting the
blood flow to their
beak?
Ladybug Facts by Fabiola Peña
There are about
4,300 kinds of ladybugs in the world.
Female ladybugs
can east as many as
75 aphids in one
day!
Ladybugs smell with
their feet and antenna.
Pictured below is
Avery’s dog Molly.
A ladybug’s jaws
chew side to side
instead of up and
down like our jaws.
The color of a ladybug’s spots begins
to fade as it gets
older.
A ladybug’s bright
color warns birds
that it does not taste
good.
Ladybugs are beetles.
When a ladybug
flies, its wings beat
85 times every second.
You cannot tell a ladybug’s age by its
spots.
Female ladybugs
are larger than male
ladybugs.
Man’s Best Friend By Avery Joyce May
Taking care of a dog
is basically taking
care of a big baby.
With the right
amount of love and
loyalty you show to
your dog the more
he or she will show it
back. Believe it or
not but dogs are
very protective of
their owner or owners. Did you know
that dogs can smell
your emotions? For
example, if you are
upset your dog will
most likely try and
cheer you up.

Top Ten Weird Phobias by Cameron Steinbacher
No.1 Hippopotomonstrosesquipedalioph
obia
The irony of this phobia is that it is the fear
of long words. This is a
real phobia but it’s
one of the more weird
ones. Sometimes it can
come from pronunciation problems. The
simple cure to this one
is just to practice your
pronunciation.
No.2 Automatonophobia
Basically, this is the
fear of inanimate objects. This one can
spring up from playing games that involve
animatronics or statues or pretty much
anything that can be
possessed that originally could not move.
No.3 Trypophobia
This is the fear of
holes. This one I can
kind of understand
because some holes
can look just weird. I
also don’t understand
it because it is just a
hole, but to other people there is something
scary/evil about the
holes that they see but
that we can’t see.
No.4 Numerophobia
This is the fear of numbers. This one I can’t
see you going out into
public just because
there are numbers
every where. So you
would have to go
through special training to learn numbers
without even realizing
it or you would probably freak out. Besides I
don’t understand this
one just because you
literally have to see
numbers every day.
No.5 Panophobia
This is the fear of everything. Another one I
really do not understand because how do
you even move? Think
about it: if you fear
everything you fear
moving, eating, talking, etc. So how often
are you scared 24/7 or
do you just have to
keep your cool? So, if
you really think about
it this phobia is pretty
rare.
No.6 Phobiaphobia
This is the fear of
fears. Wouldn’t this
send someone straight
to the nut house because you’re afraid of
having a fear but
you’re afraid of having
that fear and so on, so
on. It is like phobiaception if you think
about it.
No.7 Phengophobia
This one is the fear of
sunlight/sunshine. So
this one I could live
with. If I had it all I
would have to do is go
to night school. That’s
your problem solved
right there. But what if
someone trolled you
and put like a fake sun
light above your
head? Would you just
freak out?
how there is a duck
watching you.
So there is nothing
wrong with this one if
you’re on a farm because there are
ducks on farms all
the time. This fear
can spring from if
you get attacked by a
bunch of ducks, like
if they keep on biting
you for some reason.
No.10 Somniphobia
This is the fear of
sleep. This one might
spring from if you
have like really bad

I’m glad it’s rare. If it

Pisces (February 18March 20) is the sign
of mysticism, mystery and the spiritual
unknown. Most Pisces are somehow
involved with occult
or spiritualism.
ble intuitive ability.
Pisces are very good
at understanding
people for they have
the ability to delve
into the psyche and
see behind a person's motivations.
Pisces have extremes of emotions
and feel both good
and bad intensively.

Pisces can be very

by Zamani Lyde
Aries (March 20April 19) is the first
of the zodiac signs.
Aries is the sign of
the self. People
born under this sign
can be very selforiented.
Aries are adventurous, exciting, vi-
brant and talkative.
They are natural,
confident leaders
who like to be the
center of attention.
Aries are enthusiastic about their goals
and enjoy the thrill
of the hunt. They are
very impulsive and
usually do not think
before they act - or
speak.
Too often Aries will
say whatever pops
into their head and
usually end up regretting it later!

Z-Periods by Leslie Coronado Hernandez,
Angela Ramirez-Arreola & Jessica Sanchez
We went around and
interviewed people
about their ZPeriods and asked
these two questions :
“What are you doing
in your Z-Period
class?” and “Are you
learning anything
interesting or have
you done something
interesting yet?”
Mrs. Gleim and
Mr. Hughes’ ZPeriod: “We are
supposed to write a
letter to a teacher
that we want to give
thanks for teaching
us.” ~Jocelyn
Mr. Grant’s ZPeriod: “We are
supposed to read a
book and answer
questions about the
book. We learned
that reporters risk
their lives to get a
story.” ~Chris
Mrs. Gregory’s ZPeriod: “We are
making structures
out of cardboard. “

Delicious Smoothies
Smoothies are man’s
best friend! Also
children and
women. Smoothies
are good and good
for you. People like
smoothies because
they are tasty and
healthy.
Did you know that
some people put
vegetables in their
smoothies?! You can
use farm grown, frozen, or fresh fruits
and veggies.
-Period: “We are
making a word
cloud that describes
you and me. We
learned that flowers
have been through a
lot but they are still
flowers and they are
like humans.”
~Nakailah
by Ne’Vyia Dews
I know someone who
really loves smoothies—Mr. Brooks. His
daughter makes delicious smoothies
which inspired him
to make them. He
drinks smoothies
just about every day!
I’ve tried them myself, and they’re
great!
Here’s a recipe for
you and your family
to slurp down.
Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie
Blend 2 cups strawberries, 1 cup
crumbled pound
cake, 1 1\2 cups
each milk and ice,
and sugar to taste.
Top with whipped
cream (yum!) and
add more strawberries.
There you have it!
Until next time, run
smoothily. Get it?!
PE Z-Period: “We
are playing soccer.
And we are learning
more dribbling
skills and passes.”
~Addis
Ms. Whitten’S Zperiod “We are talking about the environment, and I
learned that poop
can be made into
soil!“ ~Kaitlyn
