VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 MARCH 2016 LIGHTNING GAZETTE LIGHTNING GAZETTE VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 How Do You Define Respect? This is what respect means to JZMS teachers, staff, and students: “Being kind to others even when you don't like them.” “Treating people with dignity.” “Respect is a way of living. It is considering others' feeling without regard to our own. It is realizing that it's not all about you and you must sometimes act according to how it will make the other person feel.” “An attitude towards someone or something that makes them feel comfortable and valued.” “Respect is when someone treats you the way you should be treated -- nicely.” “Treating people fairly.” “Respect is being attentive when lis- Walk to Read Some 6th graders went walking to Lambs Elementary to read to 1st graders. It's treating every human being like they are valuable.” having manners towards other people. You treat them how you want to be treated. Show manners towards your elders and people that you meet.” “Respect is being polite, treating a person the way you want to be treated, being kind, listening to their opinion - not being judgmental.” “I think respect is By Karen Bañuelos Each 6th grader read to one or two first graders. Toucans come in very colorful variations. Some people say they are love birds because they have a black tip shaped like a heart on their beak. Did you know that toucans control their body temperature by adjusting the blood flow to their beak? Ladybug Facts by Fabiola Peña There are about 4,300 kinds of ladybugs in the world. Female ladybugs can east as many as 75 aphids in one day! Ladybugs smell with their feet and antenna. Pictured below is Avery’s dog Molly. A ladybug’s jaws chew side to side instead of up and down like our jaws. The color of a ladybug’s spots begins to fade as it gets older. A ladybug’s bright color warns birds that it does not taste good. Ladybugs are beetles. When a ladybug flies, its wings beat 85 times every second. You cannot tell a ladybug’s age by its spots. Female ladybugs are larger than male ladybugs. Man’s Best Friend By Avery Joyce May Taking care of a dog is basically taking care of a big baby. With the right amount of love and loyalty you show to your dog the more he or she will show it back. Believe it or not but dogs are very protective of their owner or owners. Did you know that dogs can smell your emotions? For example, if you are upset your dog will most likely try and cheer you up. VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 Page 3 Top Ten Weird Phobias by Cameron Steinbacher No.1 Hippopotomonstrosesquipedalioph obia The irony of this phobia is that it is the fear of long words. This is a real phobia but it’s one of the more weird ones. Sometimes it can come from pronunciation problems. The simple cure to this one is just to practice your pronunciation. No.2 Automatonophobia Basically, this is the fear of inanimate objects. This one can spring up from playing games that involve animatronics or statues or pretty much anything that can be possessed that originally could not move. No.3 Trypophobia This is the fear of holes. This one I can kind of understand because some holes can look just weird. I also don’t understand it because it is just a hole, but to other people there is something scary/evil about the holes that they see but that we can’t see. No.4 Numerophobia This is the fear of numbers. This one I can’t see you going out into public just because there are numbers every where. So you would have to go through special training to learn numbers without even realizing it or you would probably freak out. Besides I don’t understand this one just because you literally have to see numbers every day. No.5 Panophobia This is the fear of everything. Another one I really do not understand because how do you even move? Think about it: if you fear everything you fear moving, eating, talking, etc. So how often are you scared 24/7 or do you just have to keep your cool? So, if you really think about it this phobia is pretty rare. No.6 Phobiaphobia This is the fear of fears. Wouldn’t this send someone straight to the nut house because you’re afraid of having a fear but you’re afraid of having that fear and so on, so on. It is like phobiaception if you think about it. No.7 Phengophobia This one is the fear of sunlight/sunshine. So this one I could live with. If I had it all I would have to do is go to night school. That’s your problem solved right there. But what if someone trolled you and put like a fake sun light above your head? Would you just freak out? how there is a duck watching you. So there is nothing wrong with this one if you’re on a farm because there are ducks on farms all the time. This fear can spring from if you get attacked by a bunch of ducks, like if they keep on biting you for some reason. No.10 Somniphobia This is the fear of sleep. This one might spring from if you have like really bad No.8 Rupophobia nightmares all the This is the fear of dirt. time so it might make Another one I comyou never want to pletely don’t undersleep. You might be stand but if you have able to tell if someit, you have it and if one has this because you don’t, you don’t. they might act real Besides, this is another tired, or they might rare one. Personally, just look like they do I’m glad it’s rare. If it not get much sleep was not, I can’t imagine a world where everyone is afraid of dirt. No.9 Anatidaephobia This one is the fear that some where some LIGHTNING GAZETTE Page 4 February Birthdays Compiled by Karen Bañuelos Lanaia Lampkin Aaliyah Jackson Bianca Cedillo Perez Emmalei Drew Jones Marquez Burns Kleigh Anderton Leroy Brown Damien Eaddie Jan Patterson D’Artagnan Gibson Mekaylia McClendon Raistlin Michalec Angelica Roach Avante Jones Gilbert Mitchell Jayden Phoenix Sterlynn Ward Javin White Torrance Perry Alexandra Spillars Ja’Niya Simmons Anthony Clark Lanyia Rambert Gaia Washington Arthur Wilson Jessica Bevins Adam McCarr Angela Scott Alliyah Johnson Lillian Wilson Talaysia Davis Kyla Wright Mary Edwards Belen Martinez Lizbeth Ruiz Lanelle Reed Alexis Bacani Aidan Lathrop Migueas Mendez Troy FcFadden Britney Morales Lopez Leandrea Heyward Ms. Gleim Ms. Tiernan Ms. Lee March Birthdays Compiled by Karen Bañuelos Matthews Crews Justin Gonzalez Breanna Richter Tahlaia Ferris Lamar Barr David Cano Yancarlo Montejo Morales Abigail Barwick DeQuante Walker Washington Anny Zelaya Granados Anya Wesley Ny’esha Johnson Angela Ramirez-Arreola Faith Kelley Bryan Jimenez Jaheim Jones Maurice Smalls Trae’Kyah Holston Chaniya Smalls Daquan Washington Keiontay Reed Kyiaisa Witfield James Fountain Aliyah Chavis Ta’Leigha Gibbs Jesus Verdugo Santiago Keyara Johnson Avonte Wright Nijayla Aiken Kelly Blanco Chavez Shanaiasha McCants Jahari Venning Ryan Bromell Corey Speights Jada Wade Luis Toledano Garcia Kairon Wade Ms. Price Ms. Pelkofsky Ms. Gore Mr. Crankfield Ms. Anderson Ms. Guider Mr. Alban VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 Page 5 Pisces by Zamani Lyde Pisces (February 18March 20) is the sign of mysticism, mystery and the spiritual unknown. Here’s a recipe for you and your family to slurp down. Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie Blend 2 cups strawberries, 1 cup crumbled pound cake, 1 1\2 cups each milk and ice, and sugar to taste.
