PARK IMPROVEMENT NEWS
LINCOLN MEADOWS PARK GRAND RE-OPENING
Commissioners Tom Ruvoli and Katie Rak performed the ribbon
cutting ceremony celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of Lincoln
Meadows Park. It was held on June 20th from 6:00-7:30 pm in
conjunction with Party in the Park - “School’s Out for Summer”.
Festivities included a DJ dance party, giant inflatables, kid’s
games and more. Refreshments of popcorn, cookies and
drinks were also served. Lincoln Meadows Park located at
Johnson Avenue and Elm Street now has a completely new
look. The new playground was installed with equipment designed
for 2-12 year olds and includes; swings, a hippo play feature,
a main play structure and a free standing climber. The site
also has new landscaping and benches for all to enjoy.
NEW PLAYGROUND AT STONE CREEK PARK
Stone Creek Park, located at the intersection of Pine Ridge Drive and High Stone Way is currently undeveloped.
Stone Creek Park will undergo a transformation this Fall. A new multi-age playground will be installed and
benches will be added to the park. The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of the 2016 year.
The Frankfort Park District area residents are very excited for this new addition.
NEW BUILDINGS & GROUNDS FOREMAN
The Frankfort Park District is pleased to announce Hugh Bronson as the new Buildings
& Grounds Foreman as of April 11, 2016. Under the direction and supervision of Sandy
Stundins, Superintendent of Building and Grounds, Foreman Hugh’s responsibilities
include supervising full time, part time, and seasonal staff as well as performing a
variety of special projects, park maintenance, facility maintenance, custodial and
recreation support activities. Hugh brings over 30 years of experience with him from
his previous job with the Chicago Public Schools. He is a Licensed Stationary Engineer
by the City of Chicago and his expertise is in building maintenance. Hugh is a Frankfort
resident and will be a great addition to our team!
OPERATION PLAYGROUND FOUNDATION
New Outdoor Exercise Equipment at Michele Bingham Memorial Park
New outdoor exercise equipment was installed July 6 along the Old
Plank Trail at Michele Bingham Memorial Park. The new workout equipment
area is located between Old Plank Trail and the Michele Bingham Parking
Lot. The project was made possible by funding from the Operation
Playground Foundation and collaborative efforts of the Frankfort Park
District and the Village of Frankfort. The Village authorized the Park
District to lease the easement along the trail which allowed for the
district to oversee the installation and maintenance of the work out
equipment. Funding for the project was provided but the Operation Playground
foundation which is a non-profit volunteer organization that proudly serves the Frankfort community.
The funds donated by Operation Playground covered the cost of the concrete foundation and four pieces of exercise
equipment. The exercise equipment includes; a Squat Press, a Pull Up and Dip Station, a Seated Chest Press and
a Seated Lat Pull. Operation Playground Foundation funding has significantly helped in providing assistance and
support for the improvement of Frankfort Park District facilities and development of several projects for the youth
and adults of the Frankfort Park District. The Frankfort Park District is grateful for all of the accomplishments and
projects that Operation Playground Foundation has supported throughout the parks. To find out more information

Welcome
NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
- GINA HASSETT
The Frankfort Park District Board of
Commissioners and Staff are pleased
to announce and would like you to
join us in welcoming Gina Hassett
our new Executive Director for the Frankfort Park
District. After working extensively with the Illinois Association of Park
Districts, the Board of Commissioners hired Gina Hassett as our new
Executive Director. Gina’s position was made official at the May 24th
Board Meeting and her first day as Executive Director began June 6th.
“We are excited to have Gina as our new Executive Director. Her strong
leadership and financial management skills will help to guide our Park
District in the coming years. We feel she will continue to strengthen the
Park Districts place in our community,” said John J. Reilly, President
Frankfort Park District.
Gina comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience as she has
20 years of park and recreation experience - serving the past eight years
as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Village of Hinsdale. She
received her bachelor’s degree in recreation administration from Eastern
Illinois University. Gina has strong skills in project management,
community outreach and budget preparation. She looks forward to
engaging with community members and organizations to forge and
strengthen relationships. She has a strong desire to address the
community’s needs and provide quality and innovative recreational
opportunities to everyone.
TOM BARZ ELECTED
CHAIRMAN-ELECT OF THE IAPD BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Tom Barz, President of the Frankfort Park District, was recently elected
Chairman-Elect of the Illinois Association of Park Districts’ (IAPD) Board
of Trustees. Barz joined the IAPD board in 2010 and served two years as
Vice-Chairman. He works with the 19-member board to advise the association in providing service, research, advocacy, public awareness and educational programs for the membership of 366 park, recreation and
conservation agencies and nearly 100 affiliated business partners.
“Tom is deeply committed to furthering the park, recreation and
conservation mission in Illinois,” said Peter Murphy, IAPD President and
Chief Executive Officer. “He has been a great asset to the IAPD board, and
I look forward to continuing to work with him to advance park districts,
forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies
statewide.” Barz currently serves on the IAPD Ambassadors, Board
Development, Executive, Honors and Resolutions, Membership and
Program committees. He also serves on the IAPD/ Illinois Park and
Recreation Association Joint Conference Committee and Joint
Coordinating Council. IAPD was established in 1928 and is the oldest
state association for parks, recreation and conservation in America. The
association serves more than 2,100 elected park, recreation and forest preserve
district board members who govern more than 360 agencies employing
40,000 individuals. IAPD strives to improve Illinois’ quality of life through
park districts, forest preserves,
conservation and recreation agencies
by establishing grants and other
new revenue streams for park land,
facilities and services; educating
the public about the positive
effects parks and recreation have
on communities; and meeting the
problem of decreasing open
space in Illinois.

Youth Programs
This class is designed to help children practice separation from their
parent/caregivers while engaging them in one of their first classroom
experiences. Socializing, learning to share, playing with toys and listening to stories will be the focus of this class. The instructor will guide
these children through fun activities that will help develop their
independence. A great jump start on preschool preparation. If a child
has trouble with separation, the parent may stay with the child to wean
them into the program.

children to recognize their own individuality and body mobility.
Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and
imaginative ways. Keeping students entertained while learning
beginning dance skills will help them to acquire a lifelong love for dance.
Beginning Dance is the next step up from pre-dance. This class
will utilize the basics that were taught and add onto them. Arm
positions will be used more and with more ballet structure to it.
Dance Fusion This class will develop your child’s coordination
as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology.
Through this enjoyable educational experience, students will learn
to use dance as a creative means of self-expression. Dance Fusion
concentration is on vocabulary, alignment and proper execution of
movement and memorization and independence through sequential
tasking. Dance genres covered in each session are ballet, jazz, tap,
and creative movement.
Ballet 1 This class is the student’s first introduction to formal
ballet class structure. More advanced stretching and strengthening
exercises are given, barre work is introduced with a greater emphasis on vocabulary and French terminology. Musicality continues
to be emphasized along with balance and coordination through the
strengthening of the body core. Center floor work is introduced
with continued focus on the positions of the arms, legs and feet
using classical ballet vocabulary.
Competition Troupe is now in its third year and it is an extra
performing opportunity for dancers who wish to take their dance to
a new level and compete against other dancers from around IL. In
order to enroll in this class you must also be in Jazz and Ballet 3. This
class competes in two dance competitions a year. Last year’s
dancers won Elite Golds in all performances they did. This class also
has a strict attendance policy and dancers must attend all classes.
Please request an information sheet regarding dance attire and
shoe purchase at time of registration.

Pointe Dancing on pointe is the act of standing on the tips of
the toes while performing steps from ballet. Also known as pointe
work, it is performed using hard–toed and stiff-shanked pointe
shoes. Dancing on pointe requires strength and skill, so prior permission
from instructor is required before students begin taking pointe
classes. Must be enrolled in Ballet III in order to be on Pointe.
Tap
is created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a
dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician.
Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the
dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own
bodies.
Jazz has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation
of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the
accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different
characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway,
Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of
these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance
of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Each level of jazz is a
continuation of the previous level and increases in difficulty.

GET FIT WHILE YOU SIT!
This class is perfect for “Older Adults” or as a “Starting Point” for beginner
exercisers. This class helps battle against osteoporosis, joint and back
pain, and falling. When we build muscle, we build bone. When the muscles
supporting the spine and the joints are strong and flexible, we have less
pain and risk of injury. As we age, our ability to balance declines. Since
the consequences of falling for older adults can be severe – even fatal –
balance training is essential. Exercises are performed seated and/or
standing using chairs, weights, and other equipment, which are provided
for you. No previous exercise experience necessary.

This is a class where you'll learn basic belly dancing moves. We will NOT
get all Shakira with it in the beginning, but we’ll definitely be dancing to
her music and some fun Bollywood tunes, and I’ll throw in anything else
that has a wicked hip-twisting beat. We’ll laugh and sweat together while
we search for those ever-elusive abdominals. I want you to feel the music,
try a few moves in a “jingle scarf” (bring your own, or I have some you

TAI CHI CHUAN
Tai Chi is moving meditation that combines postures and movements
into an elegant and gentle flowing form, which by design stretches and
strengthens many of the muscles and tendons of the body as well as enhances
the circulation of the blood. Originally developed in China as a very formidable
martial art, today most of the millions of people that practice the art of
Tai Chi do so for its considerable health benefits. Tai Chi is a flowing,
graceful exercise that stabilizes balance, increases flexibility, and reduces
stress. It requires no special clothing, equipment, or skills and comfort
is the operative word here. It can be practiced by people of all ages and
body types. If you are new to Tai Chi, please arrive at 6:00 pm on the first

You wanna be fit? You want that look good, feel great, got my
stride on and you love it confidence? That's where we come in.
TURN IT UP! You thought we were stuck in the 80’s dancing to
jazz music, right? Nope. We’re dropping it to the newest bodypumping beats on the radio right now. Shakira? Yep. Pitbull?
Check. Ariana Grande? We got it. Snoozy jazz music? Not even
close. Music is make-it-or-break-it when it comes to workouts.
So we update our playlists constantly to keep it fresh. With new
moves and new music in every class plateaus are no problem.

UPHOLSTERY CLASS
Have a child who has trouble staying organized at school? Are you struggling
to keep track of what is what in their school work and homework? Come
listen to a former teacher's aide who was assigned to help create organization
systems to help students stay organized and improve home to school
communication. Instructor will share what she is currently using with her
own child who attends 157c and is diagnosed with ADHD and Autism.
This system can be started as young as 3rd or 4th grade and you can build
and add to the system as your child's school demands change, all the
way through high school. This system will alleviate stress on the student,
teacher and parents. It includes a way to organize subjects, paperwork,
and even works in conjunction with specific apps as the student grows
into a more advanced way of organizing. Your child is never too young
or too old to start an organizational system. This system can also be customized
to fit your child's individual needs. It works great for both special ed and
regular ed students who need a little assistance in organization.

BECOME A PERMANENT PART OF THE PLAYGROUND
Charitable Giving Options
Several years ago, Operation Playground installed a picket fence at Fort
Frankfort that not only provides safety and security for our children but
offers the community a way to remember or honor a loved one or
organization. For a $35 donation, you can have your name or a name
you choose engraved on one of the wooden pickets in the fence. This is
an opportunity to become a part of this amazing play space that was
designed and built by volunteers in the community. Years from now your
children and grandchildren will enjoy searching for your family names
and will remember that you were part of this community event.
BENCH MEMORIAL DONATION
The Frankfort Park District also offers a memorial black iron park bench
which can be placed in the park of your choice, with Park District approval.
A personal plaque will be attached to the bench. The donation fee is $800.
Please stop by the Founders Center for more information and to see a sample
of the bench in the entrance hallway.

Operation Playground Foundation sponsored the creation of the Frankfort
Bark Park at Commissioners Park, which opened in May 2007. Fundraising
is on-going in order to provide additional enhancements to the Bark Park
and other parks. For more information, please call the Park District office
The Frankfort Park District is proud to continue a MemorialTree Program to
plant trees in parks for all Frankfort residents to enjoy. Through this
program, you can honor or remember a person, an event or an organization
by having a tree planted in their name. A tree can be given to celebrate
someone’s birthday, to memorialize a deceased, commemorate a special
event in your life or recognize an organization and their accomplishments.
A donation of $350 will purchase a tree in a park designated by the donor
or honoree. Trees will be planted in the spring and fall each year. In addition,
the year, along with the name of the person, event or organization being
honored, will be proudly displayed on Plaque at the base of the tree. This
program benefits the community as a whole, and the tree can be enjoyed
for years to come.
For all information regarding the Living Tree Program, contact the Park
District office in the Founders Community Center at 469-9400. The Park

for your library. Brochures are available in the library and you can find
us on facebook. Board meetings are held at the library every third Tuesday
(except December) at 11:30 AM. You are invited to come and see what
we are about.

organizations with over 800 boys and girls participating in tackle football,
cheer and flag football. Since 2004, we have achieved 5 league super bowl
championships and 3 consecutive state cheerleading championships.

Frankfort Baseball offers baseball leagues for kids from age 5 up to 14.
Our young athletes learn the fundamentals of baseball and put them into
action in games against other teams in their league. While the League
provides an important social outlet for our players, it also creates a sense
of team, athletic ability and competitive spirit. From Shetland to
Palomino, our mission as a league is not only to teach the basic principles
of baseball, but also to promote fair play, sportsmanship, pride and identity
in our young athletes. Go to our website for all information and contacts: www.frankfortbaseball.com
