President’s Column

February is Volunteer Month for the Z Club of Texas. The club will be attending
both Autorama on February 13-15 at Dallas Market Hall and the Dallas Auto Show
on February 18-22 at the Dallas Convention Center. We need your help at these
shows to talk to people who come by the club’s display. It’s easy “work” and an
opportunity to hang around talking about Z cars. For working about 4 hours in
the club’s display, you receive free entrance into the show. At Autorama, that
means not paying the $14 admission. At the Dallas Auto Show, you save the $11
admission. Please contact one of the Car Show Chairmen to sign up for a time
slot to help out. You must contact one of them so that we can get you into the
show. Contact either Warren Kline at [email protected] or ‘Wild’ Bill Hayden at
[email protected].
On behalf of the Z Club of Texas, I would like to thank Kenny Tran and his staff
at Jotech Motorsports for coming by our January club meeting to give us information about his business. They brought their cool cars too. Jotech Motorsports specializes in import parts and tuning service, including Nissan 300ZXs,
350Zs and GT-Rs. Kenny made it down to Texas World Speedway with his GT-R
last weekend for The Drivers Edge event and quickly learned how to get his car
around the track very fast. We hope to see Kenny again soon. Be sure to check
our list of sponsors towards the back of this newsletter for information on how to
contact Jotech Motorsports.
Watch your email for details of upcoming club events. If you are a ZCOT member
and you do not receive occasional emails about the club, please send an email to
Warren Kline at [email protected] so that he can get you added to the email list.

newsletter in color. If pictures are worth a thousand words, you ought to see
them in color! You can also access the email addresses of your current officers

Meeting Minutes

President Renee Hayden called to order the January 15, 2009 meeting of the Z Club of Texas
at New New Buffet in Addison, Texas at 7:36pm. Officers were introduced: Vice President,
Glen Newton; Treasurer, Kay Newton; and Secretary, Jonathan Maddox. New members
and visitors were welcomed. New member, Juan Baires, purchased his Z32 while on duty
on Iraq.

Treasurer’s Report - Kay Newton reported that the Club Display’s carpet has been ordered
from Carpet Express and will be delivered to Glen Newton’s workplace. This was approved
at the January 10, 2009 Officers’ meeting.
Committees
Car Shows – Warren Kline discussed the Autorama Car Show coming up February 13 -15
at the Dallas Market Center. A sign-up sheet was circulated for the four hour work shifts
needed to man the Club booth. Setup will start on February 12 at 10am. All cars in the
display will need to be in pristine condition with less than ¼ tank of fuel. Teardown begins
at 8 pm Sunday. Renee and Warren encouraged all to attend.
Membership – Renee: Z Club business cards will be placed at the local Nissan dealerships
to promote Club awareness. “Mad” Mike Taylor informed the Club that the National Z
Convention registration will begin on February 1 and that currently there are only 45 track
slots allotted. Renee will be working to get that number increased.
Community Service – Katy Taylor: The Club will provide lunch at Ronald McDonald House
at 11am on January 25. She is exploring the possibility of the Z Club setting up a car show
during the opening of the new Ronald McDonald House.
Guest Speaker – Steve Ruzic introduced the meeting’s guest speaker, Kenny Tran, owner
of JoTech Motorsports in Garland, TX. He holds back-to-back championships in the NHRA
Sport Compact drag racing series in his Scion tC drag car. Jotech does suspension tuning,
wheels/tires, diagnostics, and forced induction installs and tuning on late model import
cars. They are moving to an expanded location that will allow them to include Nissan GT-R
and 370Z service. Kenny’s employees brought several 350Zs to the meeting, and Kenny
brought his personal GT-R.

Motor Sports – Renee: Eagles Canyon Raceway is offering more affordable “Junior” memberships. The annual Driver’s Education event at Texas Motorsports Ranch is in March.
Texas Tours – Katy Taylor: Next Texas Tour is to Clark’s BBQ in Tioga, TX on January 19.
So far 23 cars have signed up. Possibilities for Tour destinations for March include Rusk,
Palestine, and the Texas Railroad. No Texas Tour in February due to Autorama.
Member Profiles – Bill Amdall will profile two new Club members for upcoming newsletter.
Website – Lois is working on a way for new members to join the Club via PayPal.
50/50 – Mike Quan gathered $106. $53 went to the Club treasury, and Abel Rovira’s son
received the other $53.
For the Good of the Club – “Mad” Mike Taylor gave Mike Quan an Advan watch as a thankyou for giving him an unintentionally costly Christmas gift (a unique tow hook necessitating a new 2008 350Z to put it on). Craig Schwarze brought in several new winter jackets to
sell for $25 each, with $5 from each sale being donated to the Club.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40pm.

Night Party on the Patio: Party will be set up in the courtyard area of the host hotel. A
talented local band will rock the the night away while Z Car videos will play on the side of
the hotel building.

Downtown San Antonio River Walk Event: Buses will pick up attendees at the host hotel
and take you downtown to the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. Once downtown you will
take a boat tour and see downtown San Antonio. After the tour attendees will gather at a
lunch spot on the river walk. Meal is provided for this event. After lunch you will be provided with maps and an itinerary to tour downtown. At the end of the day, buses will pick
you up and take you back to the hotel.
