The widowed Duchess of Malfi longs to marry her lover, the steward Antonio but her rancorous brothers, Ferdinand and the Cardinal, are implacably opposed to the match. The Duchess of Malfi, featuring Hollywood star Gemma Arterton in the title role, is a thrilling combination of brilliant coups de théâtre, horrific set-pieces and vivid characters, all lit by Webster’s obsessional imagination. 150 Min. Frederick Ashton’s final full-length ballet is one of his most joyous creations, inspired by his love for the Suffolk countryside. It is based on an 1828 French ballet and the music was adapted by John Lanchbery from Ferdinand Hérold’s original score. 135 Min. £10 / Students: £6 £15 / Students: £12.50 If you’re interested in learning how to write for live performance, Sheringham Little Theatre’s Playwriting Course is for you. Film Academy Award® nominee Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, Schindler’s List, The Grand Budapest Hotel) plays Jack Tanner in this exhilarating reinvention of Shaw’s witty, provocative classic. Nancy is desperate to fill her sack to feed her children, but the fog comes down, the tide comes in and she is lost. Can Nancy still be heard? Is she inviting us into the sea or warning us of the danger? Is she a malevolent or benevolent spirit? A chilling story with a strong relevance today - minorities still lose their lives as voiceless forgotten beings on our coastline. Sentimental pirates, blundering policemen, absurd adventures and improbable paradoxes - this much-loved comic opera is a showcase of brilliant humour and razor-sharp wit and features a sparkling score chock-full of memorable melodies and catchy tunes. The superb cast includes the ever-versatile Andrew Shore as the very model of a modern Major-General. 135 Min. Combining historical fact and contemporary fiction, Eastern Angles captures the soul of an ancient local industry and puts its beating heart on stage. Oysters is a tale of sex, boat-building and bivalve molluscs. Mo has just turned fifty and is busy restoring an oyster dredger recovered from an Essex riverbed. Helping him bring the boat back to life is Kasey, a young intern with chip on her shoulder. When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for. A mix up with the Farmer, a caravan and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it’s up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to the green grass of home. 85 Min. By William Shakespeare. Grotesquely violent and daringly experimental, Titus was the smash hit of Shakespeare’s early career, and is written with a ghoulish energy he was never to repeat elsewhere. This production revisited Lucy Bailey’s spectacular Globe production of 2006 and caused a stir throughout the UK media with staged violence so realistic that throughout its run the play saw audience members fainting in the stalls. 186 Min. A half-term holiday activity which gives an opportunity for young budding performers to rehearse the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof and showcase their very own version. The week will include acting, singing and dancing with professional workshop leaders and some members of the Easter Sheringham Little Theatre production. Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. Set in 1940s France and based on the international best-selling work of Irène Némirovsky, SUITE FRANÇAISE follows beautiful Lucile Angellier who awaits news from her husband, a prisoner of war whilst leading a stifled existence with her domineering mother-in-law. When Parisian refugees pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers’ homes, Lucile’s life is turned upside down. 107 Min. A special fundraising production featuring some well known local faces (including our own Theatre Director!), this Michael Frayn farce is described as one of the funniest comedies ever written. A mediocre cast and overworked stage crew can’t stop director Lloyd’s production of “Nothing On” going ahead, despite forgotten lines, missed entrances, a whisky-loving actor and disruptive love triangle. Shakespeare’s tense drama of high politics reveals the emotional currents that flow between men in power with themes that still resonate even today. This sellout production employed authentic Renaissance costumes and staging, and Dominic Dromgoole’s impassioned interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s classic plays showcased “a rapport between the performers and the audience that feels genuinely magical” (Daily Telegraph). 180 Min. A passionate tale of lust, seduction and betrayal, no other opera boasts as popular a following as Bizet’s Carmen. Set during the dying days of Franco’s Spain, Calixto Bieito’s acclaimed production of this must-see opera has been enjoyed by audiences across Europe. Bizet’s dazzling score evokes all the sounds and sizzling atmosphere of Spain through some of the opera’s most famous melodies. 165 Min. By William Shakespeare. The third of our Roman Tragedies, Antony & Cleopatra picks up Antony’s story many years after Julius Caesar. Virtue and vice, transcendent love and realpolitik combine in Shakespeare’s greatest exploration of the conflicting claims of sex and power. The Globe’s 2014 envisioning of this play encapsulates these themes whilst threading a sense of comedy throughout. 180 Min. Starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson. A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth. By William Shakespeare. Basing his plot on a farce by Plautus, Shakespeare caps the mayhem of his Roman original to build up a hectic tale of violent cross-purposes, furious slapstick and social nightmare. The final Globe On Screen film for 2015 brings the perfect light relief to close an epic season of war and tragedy. This sellout production employed authentic Renaissance costumes and staging and will have cinema audiences roaring with laughter. Directed by Simon Thompson. Sponsored by Breakwater IT. Hungover from his stag-night booze-up, our groom wakes on his wedding morning in his own bridal suite. How did he get there? And why can’t he remember anything from the night before? This play has provoked waves of laughter in literally hundreds of productions around Europe and across America - a riotous comedy and a touching love story. Directed by Peter Craze. Sponsored by Bill LeGrice Roses. Private Lives is considered a prime example of the sophisticated comedies of Noël Coward, one of the most prominent dramatists of his era. Amanda and Elyot divorce and marry other mates. Amanda chooses stuffy Victor, while Elyot’s selection is the tiresome Sibyl. Coincidentally, both newlywed couples honeymoon at the same Swiss hotel -- what could go wrong?
