It is situated between the great forest of MAZARIN and the large valley of the BAR. An essential element must be added: the canal of the Ardennes housing this village of the Preardennaises ridges. The canal of the Ardennes is a junction canal connecting the valley of the Aisne to the valley of the Meuse. It officially begins in the village of Pont à Bar (municipality of Dom le Mesnil) and span over 88 Km up to the village of Vieux lès Asfeld. Composed of 44 locks, it has only one single tunnel: between Omicourt and St Aignan. Long of 200 meters, it is built in the 15th century to connect these two valleys along the river: the Bar. Unfortunately, today it’s only still used by boaters. The canal has the particularity of having two mileage trackings and two lock countings, as if it was composed of two distinct canals. The first part goes from the Meuse to the Aisne (Pont-à-Bar to Semuy: 39 km), the second is entirely lateral to the Aisne and begins in Vouziers to continue laterally to the Aisne downstream of Semuy (59 km).
