Network options
For the Touch Toy network, a connection to an internet provider is required (for example via modem or network card). A permanent data actualization will take place.

2.2
Touch Toy registration
To register a Touch Toy, only 2 steps are necessary:
• Step 1 - Choose connection
• Step 2 - Register terminal
2. Number to get an outside line
If you need a number to get an outside line enter the number here (e.g. 0).
Therefore press Edit-button in the selection field „number to get an outside line“ - enter
required number and press OK-button
3. Initstring (AT-command)
AT-commands are an instruction code for intelligent modems
Intelligent modems can be configured or steered by AT-commands
4. Touch Toy NET telephone number
Select dial in number to the internet provider
In the selection field „Touch Toy NET telephone number“ press Edit button - select dial in number
for the internet provider and press OK-button
5. Transfer settings
In the selection field „Transfer settings“, press Edit-button
Define the daily time period and how often each day the network data of the Touch Toy terminal should be
updated.
e.g. Start time:12:00
End time: 23:59
Number of transmissions: 5
2.2.1 Choose connection
i.e. every day between 12:00 and 23:59 the network data of the Touch Toy terminal will be updated for 5
times. The game mode will not be interrupted during data transfer. To save settings and exit menu, press
Store-button
It is important to configure the internet connection first, in order to be able to implement the Touch Toy registration data afterwards. To do this, select menu item „Step1 - Choose connection“ to configure the existing
internet connection.
6. Connection test
With the Connection test method it‘s possible to verify the networkconnection immediately
The following options are available:
• ADSL -> Internet connection with DSL Modem (PPPoE, PPTP)
• LAN -> Internet connection with local network (LAN, DHCP Server/Router)
• WLAN -> Internet connection with wireless local network (DHCP or manual IP-configuration
possible)
• UMTS -> Internet connection with UMTS modem
2.2.3 Internet connection with ADSL (DSL)
If the ADSL type of connection was selected, there is a choice between two possibilities:
• ADSL via PPTP
• ADSL via PPPoE

ATTENTION: No USB ADSL modem / router is supported!
2.2.2 Internet connection with modem (analogue/ISDN)

In the selection field „Modem“ press Edit-button - a list of all connected modems is displayed.
Select connected modem and press OK-button

Touch Toy hardware only supports Ethernet modems/routers
(a connection of an ADSL modem/router with the Touch Toy network adapter has to be provided by an
Ethernet network cable).
If no DHCP-router is connected with the ADSL modem, the ADSL network settings must be configured
manually.

Be careful which type of ADSL-access is available. Currently PPTP and PPPoE are the most widely used
ADSL-transmission protocols. You can get further information about the existing ADSL connection and the
required ADSL network addresses from the network administrator or your ADSL-provider.
The following ADSL-network addresses are required:
• Terminal IP address - only necessary with PPTP! (standard IP 10.0.0.140)
• Router IP address - only necessary with PPTP! (standard IP 10.0.0.138)
• User name
• Password
• DNS 1 (primary)
• DNS 2 (secondary)
For entering the configuration data press the Edit button, type in the configuration data, after all
required data are entered press Store-Button
Example of a single-location system via ADSL-modem without router:
The cable from the telephone socket is connected either directly or with a splitter to the ADSL-modem.
The Touch Toy terminals network card is connected to the ADSL-modem via an Ethernet network cable.

In a multi-location system a router (DHCP configured) might be installed between the ADSL-modem and the
terminals. A DHCP-router automatically configures all ADSL settings.
Activation of „automatic network configuration via DHCP“:
1. Select „automatic network configuration via DHCP“ (field is marked in yellow)
2. To save settings and exit menu, press Store-Button
3. All network settings are allocated automatically from the DHCP-router / Server
Example of a multi-location system with router (DHCP configured):
The cable from the ADSL modem is connected with the router‘s input socket and the output socket are
linked via Ethernet network cables with the Touch Toy terminals network adapter.
Manual network configuration
The network settings must be configured manually. The connected network does not support DHCP. The
following network addresses are required for a manual configuration (contact the network administrator if
necessary):
• Terminal IP adress
• Subnet Mask
• Default Gateway
• DNS 1, DNS 2
Activation of „Manual network configuration“:
1. Select „Manual network configuration“ (field is marked in yellow)
2. For entering the configuration data press the Editing-Button , type in the configuration data, after all
required data is entered, press Store-Button
2.2.5 Internet connection with LAN
WLAN adapter installation
Connect the WLAN adapter to the blue coloured USB port (modem) of the computer unit. Switch off the
terminal and switch it on again.
2.2.4 Internet connection with LAN
If the LAN type of connection was selected, there is a choice between two possibilities:
• Automatic network configuartion via DHCP
• Manual network configuartion
Automatic network configuration via DHCP:
If the connected network supports DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), all network settings are

WLAN settings in the network menu
1. Select the available WLAN USB adapter, which is connected to the Touch Toy computer unit
(„Available WLAN adapter“).
2. Select the according WLAN network which the Touch Toy terminal should use to access the internet
(„Available WLAN networks“).

3. To protect the WLAN network against unauthorized users we recommend you to activate a data
encryption method.These data encryption methods are available: WPA, WPA2, WEP 64 bit or 128 bit

For entering WEP-code press the Editing-Button , after all settings are entered press
Store-Button to save settings and exit menu.
Additional information in the WLAN configuration menu:
Adapter MAC Address - MAC address of the connected WAN USB adapter
(MAC Address = Media Access Control address, a hardware address that
uniquely identifies each system in a network)
Network signal strength - Signal strength of the selected WLAN network
2.2.6 Internet connection with UMTS
With an UMTS Modem you have the possibility to connect your Touch Toy Terminal even if no phone jack is
immediately available. The UMTS modem works wireless and operates with a SIM card of a mobile internet
provider. Each SIM card with activated UMTS function is working. A monthly data volume of approximately
1024 MB is necessary. ATTENTION: The PIN query must be disabled at the SIM card.
UMTS-configuration settings:

Initstring
A special initstring is required to connect the modem via UMTS-mode.
The initstring is made up the following way:
With the exception of UMTS-provider‘s APN (Access Point Name), the initstring always remains
the same for all providers. The first part always remains unchanged, only the APN (second part)
adapts to the local provider.
Examples for an Initstring (date 2008):
ONE (mobile telephone provider Austria): at+cgdcont=1,“IP“,“fullspeed“
T-Mobile (mobile telephone provider Germany): at+cgdcont=1,“IP“,“web.vodafone.de“
The mobile phone provider, who has equipped you with the SIM card, provides you with the
required UMTS-settings.

Define the daily time period when the terminal‘s data should update and how often the data should update

the field „Connection status“:
• not connected - No connection to the internet established
• connecting - Trying to establish a connection to the internet
• connected - Sucessfully connected to the internet
If a successful connection to the internet is established, it is possible to start the PING-test to test the
connection. The PING-test sends data packets to a certain IP address and receives packets again from
this selected IP address. Consequently you can notice if data packets can get send and received from the
internet.
• root dns - connection test to Main-DNS-server
• google - connection test to website www.google.com
• funworld - connection test to website funworld.operationnetwork.org
2.2.7 Internet connection with GPRS
The configuration of the connection is exactly the same as UMTS (see 2.2.6 Internet connection with UMTS).
However, internet providers use different inistrings for GPRS configuration. The mobile phone provider, who
has equipped you with the SIM card, provides you with the required GPRS settings.
2.2.8 Connection Test
After the internet connection gets defined, the possibility exists to immediately test the configured internet
connection if a successful connection to the internet can be established.
Therefore press the „Connection test“ button.
Example:
Select Button [google] - connecting website www.google.com (IP Address 216.239.59.147) and try to exchange data packets.

In the menu item „Ping statistics“ you can see if the PING-test was successfully.

If the PING-test could not get executed, check the configured network settings.
Press the „connect“ button to test the configured internet connection (depending on the quality of the con12

Transfer now
After having configured the internet connection, select menu item „Register terminal“ to enter Touch Toy
registration data.
Press the Button „Register terminal“, type in your personally User name and password and press the ENTER
button. To get your personal licence number, contact your regional Touch Toy distributor.
The first data transmission can get started after having entered all registration and connection settings. As
soon as the first data transmission has been completed successfully, the automatic data transfer is activated.

The Touch Toy is connecting to the server and the validity of the entered User name and password will get
verified. Then another menu will get displayed, enter the location data and press Store-Button
No network / reset
All network settings and registration data are deleted. However the Touch Toy terminal can get registered
again any time.

Connection test
Is a firewall installed in the local network, there is the possibility that some ports are blocked, and several
Touch Toy online applications will not work. In such case please use the connection test method to verify
the availability of necessary ports.
Following ports will be checked:
TCP: 80, 443, 2352, 5050, 5190
UDP: 2351, 2352, 2353, 2362, 2363, 6789
Start connection test procedure and check whether all functional tests were successful.
If necessary contact the network administrator for the firewall settings.
All location data ever registered under the same User name are deposited on the server.
If a Touch Toy terminal will get registered on an already registered location, it is not necessary to enter the
location data again; a selection list of all deposited location data gets displayed.
Select wanted location and press Store-Button
The registration of the Touch Toy terminal is finished.
Exit the menu „Net status“, and press Store-Button

In the menu Log-File(s) all recorded data transfers are accounted for.

Since all modems connected to the new power box Xtreme communicate via USB interface, a serial-/USBadapter for the modem Wavecom 1206 GPRS Fastrack is needed.
7.3.2 Webjet Pocket ISDN USB
(ISDN remote network access)
The case of Webjet Pocket has two signal lights which provide constant information about the status of the
adapter and the ISDN line.
* The status of the modem was taken after the Touch Toy software was complete started-up.

7.3.4 Nokia 30 GPRS
EGSM 900/GSM 1800 network
The modem Nokia 30 consits of two parts:
• modem
• RS 232 adapter for the modem
The Nokia 30 has an internal antenna but if the signal strength is insufficient for otpimal use, an external
antenna can be attached to the modem.

Since all modems connected to the new power box PRO comunicate via USB interface, a serial- / USB
adapter for the modem Wavecom 1206 GPRS Fastrack is needed.

DSL:
„Digital Subscriber Line“
DSL is a telecommunication technology that provides a fast, permanent connection to the Internet by using
the two-wire copper cable found in almost every home and office.
Either the same range is available for the transmission in each direction, or however - that is the more
often the case - the channel for receiving data (Downstream) is more efficient than for sending data
(Upstream). There are several types of DSL and xDSL refers to the family of DSL technologies:
The most common techniques permit 1.5 to 1.6 Mbps (megabit per second), which is at least 15 times
faster than an ISDN connection.
ADSL:
„Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line“
The most common form of DSL is ADSL
It entails one high-speed, unidirectional data channel and one low-speed, bidirectional control channel (making it asynchronous). Basically, this means you can download faster than you can upload. ADSL supports
data rates to 8 Mbps when receiving data (known as the downstream rate) and rates up to
1 Mbps when sending data (known as the upstream rate).
LAN:
„Local Area Network“
A local communication network in a relatively small, predetermined area (such as a room, a building, or a set
of buildings) consisting of one or more computers (LAN Server), workstations, a network operating system,
an uniform protocol and special cables as communication line.
Server:
A server is the control computer on a LAN, meaning it controls the software, access to printers and other
parts of the network. It houses information and responds to requests for information.
Ethernet:
Network protocol for local networks
Ethernet represents the most common technology for the connection of local networks (LANs).
Protocol:
A specification that describes how computers talk to each other on a network. A protocol is an established
method of exchanging data over the Internet.
The most common protocols are : HTTP, IP, POP, PPP, SMTP, TCP/IP
DHCP:

„Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol“
A protocol that provides a mean to allocate IP address dynamically to computers on a LAN. It eliminates the
need to manually assign permanent IP addresses.
TCP/IP:
„Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol“
The TCP/IP is the Standard-Internet-Protocol.
The Internet-Protocol (IP) specifies the transmission route for the data packages. The TCP protocol
guarantees that all sent bytes will be received correctly. TCP/IP is therefor a „routable“ protocol.
IP AdDress:
„Internet Protocol“-Address;
A numeric address that is given to computers connected to the Internet.
Gateway:
A system for exchanging information across networks that are incompatible and use different protocols.
Basically, a gateway is a combination of hardware and software that connects two different types of
networks so that information can get exchanged. The hardware devices (called „bridges“) and the
computer programs perform the necessary translations.
Subnet Mask:
A number used to identify a subnet work so that an IP address can be shared on a LAN.
An IP address has two components, the network address and the host address.
DNS:
The Domain Name System (DNS) helps users to find their way around the Internet. Every computer on the
Internet has a unique address -just like a telephone number- which is a rather complicated string of numbers. It is called „IP address.“ But it is hard to remember everyone‘s IP address. The DNS makes it
easier by allowing a familiar string of letters (the „domain name“) to be used instead of the arcane
IP address.
PPP:
„Point to Point Protocol“
The PPP is a data transmission protocol in the internet, which is used for modem-connections.
PPPoE:
„PPP over Ethernet“
PPPoE is the use of the network protocol PPP over an Ethernet-connection. PPPoE is needed today for the
use of an ADSL connection (specially in Germany).
PPTP:
„Point to Point Tunneling Protocol“

PPTP is a network protocol, which is used for an ADSL-access (specially in Austria).
DSL Modem:
The DSL modem, serves the transmission of data over a DSL-line.
Router:
A Router is a switching-computer, which is involved in establishing a connection in a computer network, e.g.
the internet. Such switching-computers route the data packages on the basis of the address to the
respective target computer. The address determines, to which other Router or personal computer the data
must be send to and the Router decides for each case (temporally and distance-moderately) the most
favourable way. You can also use a Router to function as a switching-computer between several local
networks (LANs) with a uniform protocol.
Splitter:
A splitter separates language traffic (e.g. a telephone) from the data traffic.
On the interface for data traffic an ADSL modem or routing can be plugged on.
GPRS:
„General Packet Radio Service“
The GPRS is a new non voice value added service based on the IP protocol that allows information to be
sent and received across a GSM mobile telephone network.
The conventional GSM network data transmission rates are a maximum of 9.6 Kbps (bit per second), with
GPRS theoretically far over 100 Kbps are possible. However so far the actually carried out values are approx.
40Kbps.
APN:
„Access Point Name“
An APN-access is comparable with a dial-in number,
which assigns the GPRS-connection a functionality, like a Internet-, network- or WAP-access
Initstring (AT-command)
AT-commands are instruction codes for intelligent modems
Intelligent modems can be configured or steered by AT-commands
ISDN:
„Integrated Services Digital Network“
An international communications standard for sending voice, video, and data over digital telephone
lines or normal telephone wires.
ISDN consists of two 64-Kbps B-channels and one D-channel for transmitting control information
Access) which is responsible for the connection of the ISDN terminal equipment.
On one S0-Bus it is possible to connect 8 terminals
B-Kanal (ISDN):
ISDN consists of two 64-Kbit/sec channels (called the B channels). Therewith two connections can get
established at the same time.
SIM (SIM card)
SIM cards are telephone cards for mobile phones. SIM cards identify the subscriber of the telephone

„personal identification number“
The PIN is a secret number of a SIM-, credit- or Euro cheque card, which serves for the identification of the
card owner
WEP:
„Wired Equivalent Privacy“
Security protocol to encrypt radio waves in a wireless local area network. A WEP key-code is used for the
data encoding. The more highly the bit-rate of the key, the more highly the protection.
RAM:
„Random Access Memory“; working memory of the computers
The RAM is (in contrast to the hard disc drive) a non-permanent memory,
the data in the RAM will be stored as long as the current power supply is not interrupted.
UMTS:
Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third-generation (3G) cell phone
technologies.
To differentiate UMTS from competing network technologies, UMTS is sometimes marketed as 3GSM, emphasizing the combination of the 3G nature of the technology and the GSM standard which it was
designed to succeed.
WCDMA:
Wideband Code Division Multiple Access is a type of 3G cellular network. W-CDMA is the higher speed
transmission protocol used in the Japanese FOMA system and in the UMTS system, a third generation
follow-on to the 2G GSM networks deployed worldwide.
More technically, W-CDMA is a wideband spread-spectrum mobile air interface that utilizes the direct
sequence Code Division Multiple Access signalling method (or CDMA) to achieve higher speeds and
support more users compared to the implementation of time division multiplexing (TDMA) used by 2G GSM
networks.
S0 Bus (ISDN):
The S0 Bus is an international standard Bus with 4 wires behind the NTBA (Network Termination for Basic

HSDPA:
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (also known as High-Speed Downlink Protocol Access) is a 3G (third
generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family,
which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data
transfer speeds and capacity.
