A LOAD OF RUBBISH!
On Thursday 12th March Year 6 gave a spectacular performance of
‘A Load of Rubbish’
Well done to all the cast, backstage workers & prop designers. A big thank
you to parents for all your help with learning lines and providing
costumes.
A special thank you to Mr Reggler for putting on such a fabulous show, Mr
Bentall for lighting & sound effects and to Ms Zerf for the brilliant
costumes!

RED NOSE DAY
On Friday 13th March FHS took part in Red Nose
Day. Staff and pupils came to school wearing
something RED!

Dan’s Amazing Bread Factory
We had wrapped up rolls in cling film and foil that
were numbered 1-35. The year 6 children then
came up in groups of 2-3 and did not know what
they had picked until they opened their parcel
and had bitten into it.
There were many interesting and entertaining
faces after the first bite because of the many
creative flavours, most notably: wasabi, coffee,
ginger/orange, raisin, blue and goats cheese,
mince pie, milk, white and dark chocolate (just to
name a few)…

We all had a great time munching some delicious
cakes; lots of children left sporting sticky faces
and fingers and very big grins! School council
worked especially hard selling the cakes and
showed off some super-duper maths skills.
There was a grand prize offering some delicious
chocolates for the person who got the RED
ROLL for RED NOSE DAY and this went to
Sam Aleksander and Tom Coulson.
Lambeth Road
We have all had a fantastic day raising money for
Comic Relief. Lambeth Road has exploded in a
profusion of pyjamas, onesies and red clothes.
We started off with a fabulous quiz to learn all
about Red Nose Day and why we were raising
money. The children were all very excited for the
Lambeth road Bake Sale during break time.
Throughout the day we took part in lots of
spelling, reading and maths activities with a fun
red nose day theme but the main event came
during assembly………..Our mission, should we
choose to accept it, was to raise over £500
before assembly. The children were ecstatic to
learn that they had achieved this and the ‘secret’
mission was going ahead – two members of staff
were going to be gunged! Mrs Grimmer and Mr
Flynn were the unfortunate recipients of the
gooey, green gunge!
The fun didn’t stop there, however! The children
were allowed to splat a plate full of spray cream
on whichever of the two gungy staff members
they chose! Everyone had a great time and Mrs
Grimmer and Mr Flynn ended up looking like
rather sticky snowmen!

SPELLING – MRS COOK
Mrs Cook's spelling group wrote their words in
rhubarb yogurt this week to help them
remember the silent h in their words.
Each time they came to the silent letter h they
added some crumble to help them remember.
Once they had written the words, they ate them,
saying the letters to reinforce the spellings. We
all got to taste how sharp rhubarb is, which
Harvey loved!
Everyone else enjoyed the
rhubarb yogurt - perhaps one to add to the
shopping list! "This was really fun and helpful!"
Everyone has had a wonderful day and we have
raised an incredible £800.93 for Comic Relief!’
READING/SPELLING - MRS CROSSMAN
& MS RUSSELL
Poetry is a theme throughout reading and writing
this term, and Miss Russell's and Mrs Crossman's
reading and spelling groups looked at The
Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. Having read the
poem, the groups then watched a You Tube
video. Finally, using masks kindly prepared by Ms
Morla, the groups re-enacted the story. They

particularly enjoyed the fight scenes! The love
scenes, less so!!!
SPELLING – MRS CROSSMAN
Two students put a great deal of effort into
creating spelling games during the Christmas
holidays.
YEAR 4 – RELIGIOUS STUDIES
As part of the RE curriculum Year 4 had a visitor
on Thursday, Bano Younus. She came to FHS to
talk about Islamic prayer.
Their games are STILL being used during spelling
lessons as they can be used with different spelling
lists!

READING – MISS O’BRIEN
Miss O’Brien’s reading group have written poems
based on their study of Michael Morpurgo’s book
War Horse. The poems describe the moment
the cavalry charge into battle across No Man’s
Land.
SPANISH CLUB AT CS
In Spanish club this week we have been making
beautiful cards for Mother's Day "Día de la
Madre". The boys put all their effort into writing
a dedication to their mothers in Spanish.

Into a formidable foe
Suddenly the thunder of the machine guns opened

Hearts pounding in the rider’s chests
But they pushed on into the invisible foe
Sabres stretched out glinting in the sun
Over the trenches they went

Behind the hidden barbed wire
But never rode back
And off they went as prisoners of war.

PARENTS’ AND PROFESSIONALS’
EVENING
We had a very well attended and successful
Parents’ and Professionals’ Evening this week.
The talk was entitled What Eye Tracking can
tell us about Reading, Writing and Dyslexia
by Dr Julie Kirkby.
Dr Kirkby’s talk was extremely informative and
entertaining and was well-received by all those
present.
The PowerPoint presentation is now available to
view on the school website.

DYSPRAXIA FOUNDATION EVENING
Tuesday 17th March at 7.00pm
Lambeth Road Hall
Fairley House School are hosting an information
evening with the Dyspraxia Foundation. There
will be 3 speakers: Michele Lee, Chair of the
Dyspraxia Foundation speaking about the role of
physiotherapy, Shula Burrows from the Nuffield
Dyspraxia Programme speaking about how
speech and language therapy can help and why it
needs to be delivered differently for those with
dyspraxia. We also have Julia Terteryan from the
Chelsea Children's Practice with us who will
address the role that occupational therapy can
provide. Parents and staff of Fairley House
School are most welcome to attend.
SAINSBURY’S ACTIVE VOUCHERS
We are now collecting the Sainsbury’s Active
Kids Vouchers. You can get involved by collecting
vouchers when you shop at Sainsbury's stores,
petrol stations and for groceries online.
Please hand these into Pat at the Junior school
