Winter is here and it is time for some holiday cheer!
The Savage Parks and Recreation’s annual Secret Holiday
Shop is just around the corner where kids can shop for their
family and friends without parents to see. A variety of gifts
will be available for choosing.
Winter Days
January 10 & 24, February 7 & 21, March 6
Outdoor winter activities will be available at the McColl Pond
Environmental Learning and Event Center every other Sunday.
Join us for free family fun and treats before the snow melts!
Activites include:
Gifts will be wrapped and labeled at the end of the
shopping experience. Don’t miss this opportunity to do
holiday shopping in a festive and safe environment.

Save the date for the annual Flashlight Egg
Scramble at our new location! Bring your flashlight
and basket to scoop up as many eggs and prizes as you can
as you scramble across the field at the Savage Sports Center.
Games and activities, an inflatable, and a photo opportunity
with the Easter bunny will be available prior to the Egg Scramble.
The Scramble will begin at 8 p.m.
with two fields divided by age

Little Sweetheart Daddy-Daughter Dance
February 19
Join us for a magical evening of making memories at our
annual Daddy-Daughter Dance. Girls-along with their dad,
uncle, grandfather, or other male role model-will enjoy a
teddy bear-themed event filled with dancing, music, fun
activites, crafts and more. Upon arrival, you will receive an
activity passport to fill with stamps as you experience the
teddy bear adventure. Fee includes a professionally printed

Mini-Sport Camp
Thursdays, January 7 - 28
Tuesdays, February 16 - March 8
An Introductory program designed for children ages
3-5 years old. Sports Unlimited’s Mini-Sport Camp helps
children explore baseball, soccer, lacrosse and flag football
in a fun and non-competitive setting. No pressure, just
lots of fun while young children participate in all three
activites every day though unique games. Our Mini-Sport
staff are trained to meet the special needs of young
children. The coaches are committed to helping the young
athletes start off on the right foot as they take their first
steps into sports.
What to have at camp:
• Shin guards (recommended)
• Two snacks
• Water bottle
• Baseball mitt
• Tennis shoes or soccer shoes (no metal spikes)
It’s time for the kids to have a night out! Parents, drop your kids off
to enjoy a movie, snacks and beverages, and games and activities
at the McColl Pond Environmental Learning and Event Center.
During each month of winter, we will feature a different movie and
fun-themed activities to be enjoyed with friends.

Research shows that all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a
beat and participate in making music with confidence. You can
nurture the musical growth of your child regardless of your own
musical ability by participating in “Let’s Play! Music Together®”
classes. Music Together classes create a playful atmosphere
in which both children and adults can find the music maker in
themselves.
Let’s Play! Music Together® includes an 8-week session of
45-minute classes, CDs and digital download, songbook, and

Walking/Jogging Club - NEW!
If you are up for a challenge, join the Savage Walking Club
for exercise, motivation, goal-setting and companionship.
Your goal will be to walk 2,778 miles - the equivalent of a cross
country trip from Los Angeles to New York. You will have the
benefit of not leaving the Savage Sports Center and staff will
track your progress on a weekly basis. Attempt this journey
based on the Open Walking/Jogging schedule below.

the Savage Sports Center. Bocce, ladder golf and bean bag

Tot Turf Time - NEW!
From November through April, kids ages 5 and under are
welcome to drop by the Savage Sports Center for some
playtime. Tots can play on an inflatable, throw balls, hit with
bats, and more. All equipment is provided. Not only is this a
great way to burn off excess winter tot energy, but it offers
age-appropriate, large motor skill practice. All toddlers
must be accompanied by an adult. No food or drinks are
allowed on turf.

Open Play
Grab your friends and come to Open Play at the Savage
Sports Center! Participants can hit golf balls and play soccer,

Reserve the Savage Sports Center
The Savage Sports Center offers a climate-controlled space for
staying active indoors November through April. The Sports
Center may be rented for athletic practices and events, birthday
parties, or other appropriate private uses.
Snow and Ice
Removal Reminders!
As winter is quickly approaching, the City of Savage
would like to remind you of some snow and ice
removal guidelines:
1. M
ake sure your mailbox is secured to withstand snow
being pushed against it by the plows.
2. P
lease keep all fire hydrants open and accessible in
case of emergencies.
3 To provide safe walking routes to schools, cleared
sidewalks are essential. Property owners that have
front and/or side sidewalk(s) are required to clear
snow and ice from the walks within 24 hours of a
snow fall (City Code Sections 95.03A and 97.02).
4. Y
ou must keep the snow from private driveways and
sidewalks off of the streets; it is unlawful to deposit
snow from private property onto public streets, alleys,
or sidewalks. (City Code Section 95.03T)
5. S
torage and placement of containers. Refuse and/or
recyclables containers shall be so located as to
be out of the public view except on collection day.
The container may be placed at the front property
line for collection, but shall not be so placed before
4 p.m. the night before collection it shall be removed
by 8 p.m. the day of the collection. (City Code Section
50.03 (C) 4)

esidents should keep in mind that, if your street has
not been cleared from curb to curb, the plow will be
back through that street to finish plowing.

For taxable individuals and organizations, turf space can
be reserved online at cityofsavage.com/sports-center.
Tax-exempt organizations can submit a rental request online
or via fax. Exempt organizations must provide all appropriate
documentation prior to reservations being confirmed and must
be pre-approved to qualify for monthly invoicing.

can be exhausting.
Join us at the Savage Sports Center for Tot Turf Time! During
the months of November through April, every Tuesday and
Thursday, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., your toddler can play on an

Set among 10 acres of native prairie, rain gardens,
butterfly gardens and mature trees, the McColl Pond
Environmental Learning and Event Center (ELC) is a
picture-perfect location for weddings, graduation parties,
anniversary celebrations, holiday gatherings and many
other private occasions.
The ELC was designed through a naturally resourceful
approach that kept sustainability at the forefront, but didn’t
sacrifice visual appeal or functionality. Powered by solar energy
and temperature-regulated through geothermal systems, the
ELC offers comfort to guests without adversely impacting the

The outdoor skating season is scheduled to begin December 15
(weather permitting) and will run through February 16, 2016.

Snowmobile Trails
The City of Savage allows for the peaceful and safe
operation of snowmobiles within the city limits. The Savage
Sno-Pacers, the local snowmobile club, posted signs
designating these trails, along with grooming and monitoring
the trails throughout the winter season. These trails provide
local riders to access to regional and state trails. Riders are
required to follow the marked trails within the city, and may
travel to the nearest marked trail from their residence.

harmless the City of Savage, its officers, employees and agents from damage resulting from any injury incurred by me or my child while participating

How to Register
Registration Procedures
Online Registration
Are You In?
To register online, whether you are new to Savage Recreation or if
you have registered with us before, it is essential that your online
household account is current prior to registering.
The program will be held at the time and place indicated, and
you are enrolled unless otherwise notified. View your household
calendar online under My Account.
You will find a link to Register Online on our City website at
cityofsavage.com/parks-and-recreation. If you have any
questions or need assistance with your online account,
call our direct line at 952-224-3420.
Register Early
Mail-in Registration
You can find the registration form on our City website. Please fill
one out for each participant and include any medical concerns
and guardian contact information.

Walk-in Registration
You may register in person at City Hall, Monday - Friday,
between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Household Calendars
Household activity calendars, listing everything your family is
registered for, are available at our online registration site. Go to
cityofsavage.com/parks-and-recreation and click Register
Online. After entering your user name and password, go to
My Account, and then Household Activity Calendar. From there
you will have the option to choose which months to view/print,
to include class location, sort by family member and more.
Savage Recreation is dedicated to providing programs that are of
interest to the community. Registration deadlines are established
to allow staff time to adequately prepare for programs. To ensure
classes are held as scheduled, we ask that you register early
whenever possible.
Waiting List
In the event that a class fills, you have the option to be added to a
wait list. We highly recommend that you get on your first choice
wait list and also register for alternate classes (your second
choice). We can always transfer you into your first choice if a
spot opens.
Registration - Age Limits and Why
Refunds prior to the registration deadline are subject to a
$5 processing fee per person, per activity. NO REFUNDS are
given after the registration deadline date. If the Parks and
Recreation Division cancels a class, you are not subject to
the $5 processing fee; all money will be refunded. If a program
is canceled due to inclement weather, no refund will be issued.
Scholarships
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Scholarships
are granted on a first-come, first-served basis according to
Minnesota’s free and reduced lunch price eligibility guidelines.
If eligible, funding is awarded at 50 percent for up to two
programs per child, per year. Call our office at 952-224-3420
for details on guidelines and required backup documentation.
Data Privacy
Photo Policy
The Data Privacy Act requires that we inform you of
your rights about private data requested on our forms.
Data is available to you. It will not be provided to the
public. The information that you provide will be made
available to necessary City staff personnel in Parks and
Recreation, third-party instructors, and the City’s insurer
and attorney. You have the right to withhold this data, but
please be informed that Savage Parks and Recreation
may not be able to complete your registration or get you
program updates without a completed registration form.
Photographs and video are periodically taken of participants
while they are in programs, at special events, in City facilities or
enjoying the parks. Please be aware that these photos may be
published.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Flashlight
Egg Scramble
This annual event will be held on Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Savage
Sports Center. The event draws nearly 100 kids and their families each year.
Guests will be able to participate in games and activities inside of the Sports
Center prior to the Scramble starting. There will also be an opportunity for
guests to take a photo with the bunny for a festive addition to the event!
Businesses and organizations can be involved in the event through
sponsorship.

City of Savage requests sponsors to:
• Fill a minimum of 100 plastic eggs with treats, trinkets and promotional items.
We ask that all food products be prepackaged individually and that you refrain
from distributing bubble gum and peanut products.
