STEP Systematic Training and Education Programme • Founded in 1934, The Oberoi Group operates 30 hotels under the luxury ‘Oberoi Hotels & Resorts’ brand and the five star ‘Trident Hotels’ brand in India, Egypt, Mauritius, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. • The Oberoi Group also provides in-flight catering, manages airport restaurants, travel and tour services, car rentals and corporate air charters. What is Hotel Operations? In hotels, we provide service to our guests through the Food and Beverage Service, Front Office, Housekeeping and Kitchen departments. The STEP Programme A hotel training programme designed to provide: • Three years on the job training in a hotel. • Opportunity to study for an undergraduate degree, through correspondence. • Learning which is directly relevant to a career in the hospitality industry. The STEP Programme Resulting in: • Certificate of Proficiency from The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development. • Degree in Bachelor of Tourism Studies from the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The STEP Programme Two streams to choose from: • Hotel Operations Programme (HOP): with focus on Front Office and Food & Beverage Service. • Kitchen Operations Programme (KOP): with focus on Kitchen. Trainees receive a monthly allowance. Hotel provided accommodation facility on sharing basis. Meals on duty and uniforms. Medical insurance. 3 weeks annual leave and 3 weeks examination leave. Dedicated weekly day for study. STEP: Challenges • 6 days a week full time in a hotel for 3 years (5 days in a department and 1 day of study). • Rigorous shifts and physical strain. • Lot of responsibility. • Pressures of a professional working environment. • Strict adherence to the rules of the hotel. Eligibility criteria • Age limit: above 18 years and below 20 years of age, as on 15th August, 2014. • Minimum of 61% (B2 grade/7 grade point) in English in class X. • Clear pass in class XII, as on 1st July, 2014 from a board recognized by the Indira Gandhi National Open University.
