FLEXICRETE
FLEXICRETE® is an effective and environmentally-friendly hard armour solution for minor to severe erosion challenges.
FLEXICRETE® is an articulated concrete block (ACB) revetment system consisting of a matrix of solid precast concrete blocks
connected together to form continuous inter-connected areas which can be used for a variety of applications.
The innovative design provides the system the flexibility to conform to the subgrade movement and grade changes
while offering long term erosion control.
FLEXICRETE® can be used for:
Embankment protection to prevent erosion, open storm drain lining, aqueduct lining, shore and beach protection, breakwaters, boat launch
ramps, spillweirs, pond lining support, paving, roads, military roads, road shoulders, parking areas and protection of buried utilities
including utilities under water.
FLEXICRETE® specifications
• Concrete strength used is 30 MPa or higher in accordance with Canadian Standards CSA23
• The galvanized mesh reinforcement wires are 203mm centre to centre and 4.12mm diameter (8/8 gauge) or 4.88mm (6/6 gauge)
diameter
• The cross- sectional area of steel in longitudinal and transverse direction is 65.6 mm2/m for 8/8 gauge and 91mm2/m for 6/6 gauge
FLEXICRETE® sizes
The standard block overall dimensions are 387mm x 387mm x 80mm in panel’s 3.6 metre long × 2.4 metre wide.
Blocks are 400mm centres in both longitudinal and transverse directions. A standard block weighs 27 kg.
Panel weight is 168 kg/m2. A standard 3.6 metre × 2.4 metre panel, weighs 1.45 Tonnes.

Installation Guidelines
FLEXICRETE® is easily installed. The 3.6m X 2.4m panels weigh approximately 1.45 tonnes. Each panel is
provided with 4 lifting loops embedded in the four corner blocks. Panels can be lifted with a customized
spreader bar from either of the 2.4m ends (lifting loops are 2.00m c to c). terrafix® can rent out a lifting frame
with which the panels can be lifted at all four corners.
With the lifting frame, the panels can be handled by various types of equipment such as fork lifts, loaders, back
hoes, boom trucks and many types of cranes. Access to a site would be a factor in deciding what type of equipment
would be most suitable.
Normal installation procedure is to prepare the formation of the ground on which the panels are to be placed.
Depending on the ground conditions and the purpose of the installation this may require: a terrafix® filter cloth,
shaping, consolidation, laying a base course of granular materials (e.g. for a FLEXICRETE® road base or for a boat
launch ramp).
For placing FLEXICRETE® panels on slopes steeper than 3 horizontal to 1 vertical, anchoring may be required. Whether
or not anchors are required, and type of anchoring (if required), is the ultimate responsibility of the project designer.
We recommend that the end blocks at the bottom of a sloping installation should be embedded in a trench to avoid
undermining. We recommend that the end blocks at the top of a sloping installation be “tucked in” to the ground
formation to provide anchorage and to prevent undermining.
